hi all forumers and user of persona... i now had a big headache because many ppl comment that persona is a big eater of petrol like gen2.. I already book the new persona but really scare cant afford to pay petrol because i heard petrol price is gonna increase... anyone here can you tell me how much is full tank for now and a full tank can go how many km?
*
Lets put it this way. If you are a person who goes to work 9 to 5 & back like me, it should not be a problem. Other wise, you should have opted for something smaller, say a Myvi or Viva which in my opinion are girlie cars. Persona's more of a guys' car. Top speed - 180Kmph one way to heaven for a 50K+ car. Where else can you find a bargain like this. Remember it is a solidly built 1.6 litre car. Not a tin can 1.5 litre Iswara. Don't waste precious time cracking your head doing all those penny saving fuel consumption calculus.

Did you heard that price for fuel is increasing to 2.60 year by year?? Thats not a small figure if you count properly... After add on maybe you can buy another viva.. If i really find a fuel saving car, the new city is the best choice..

today my car suddenly hard to start..after it managed to start for the first time, it died..and i need to crank two or three times. anyone encounter this? my elegance just one and a half month on the road...
*
I have come across this problem mentioned here sometime back. Apparently, there is a technique to crank up & switch-off the Persona (I suppose the same goes with the Waja) You have to turn the ignition switch (where you insert the car key) to "ON" & stay there briefly, say about 3 secs. before twisting the key fully until the engine comes to life. Do the reverse when you switch the engine. Opting for a lighter engine oil, 10W 40 instead of the OE standard 20W 50 would make morning starts easier. Sure works for me. I don't know if anyone else have heard about this technique & vouch that it works. Feedbacks are most welcome.

so far okay lorr...

Does anyone out here ever wonder why the name "ELEGANCE" is not found on the body of the Persona. Just like the Saga "ISWARA" Proton keeps repeating these invisible names on their cars. Perhaps they are trying to copy the Merce.(name wise) but can't afford to pay for the badges.

hi  guys,SERIOUS CASE on my Elegance yesterday

just to share wit u all..now im at proton HQ kesas highway ..coz my car yesterday brake suddenly not working and  goes bang the front car coz i cant stop.....so my bonnet and bumper goes rosak..and now still discussing how to solve the problem...this brake problem i've complaint since the 1st day i took the car and i've sent to glenmarie for claim it....then 2nd time complaint again in 1K service in  glenmerie as well..then now is the 3rd time.it goes bang....haiz...3 super supervisor of their management come down and meet me to understnd about this problem...when i asked them issit im the 1st case on brake problem?he say " yes" dam it..i remember previously there were few ppl complaint about this brake problem, and i met few malay ppl who driving persona elegance here they mentioned they have the same problem, but they haven goes BANG like me....even ECU shut down suddenly and stop at highway......but then when they checking the car ,they talk secretly discussing among themselve...i cant hear anything @@.. so i dono wats the problem..at last 1 of the supervisor told me that mayb some batch is facing this problem but they canot let me know wats the "real problem" because they worry i will share wit u guys here online...as he told me = =..then i was nodoubt ..ok ..i respect ur rules n regulation in proton..but atleast fix my thing before im died...i told them..LOL...haiz...now still waiting..and they mentioned if really their problem, they will bare the cost of fixing my car...dam it.. i bet they sure cover this problem sad.gif ..hope they really check my car properly..another thing is my fuel guage will goes "empty" even i have full petrol inside..dam... cry.gif

After reading all this drama, I feel the owner of this vehicle should blame himself/herself for what happened. If the brakes are bad on the very first day, why not reject the car till it is fixed for safety sake. Even after 1K Km, the problem still persist, I think it is hell of a dangerous for other road users. Any car with brake problems, be it new or old should have been fixed immediately. I feel this complainant is very incompetent in handling the whole situation. And why this car owner did not get Proton to replace the fuel gauge quickly. This driver's mind has more problems than the car.

National car maker sucks big time because abs is not included in basic spec model, nearly knock down a motorcyclist today afternoon while raining.

The biker brake too hard when he saw a big pool of muddy water...Obviously, i am careless too because didn't realize the front road was flood abit..about 15cm deep of muddy water along 30metres road...

I just brake..too hard, brakes is wet...tyre is cold, does not grip at low temperature..car just skid to the front..I just pray, pray, pray hard..1.2..3... wink.gif less than a feet my front bumper almost knock the biker down..*sweat* *sweat*.. sweat.gif

IF ABS is kicking in..it should have avoid the incident...for any potential buyer..just go for H-LINE...avoid the basic spec at all cost.

Please speak for yourself and do not simply bash the car. Many visitor to this thread has too high expectations of the Persona without realising that it is a sub RM60K car which Proton has tried its best to make affordable to all (by offering the different variants) Don't expect the Persona to perform like a RM100K car. For its size & specs., it is still the cheapest around. Why advise some one to buy a higher spec. model if it is beyond their budget? All the technology in the world will not safe a driver with poor driving habits.

I will never ever forget the night when i was ALMOST involved in a high speed crash along a straight wet road during heavy rain middle of the night. It happened to me few years ago when i drove my Civic with no technological stuffs like ABS. Misjudged the upcoming traffic slowing down while driving at 100kmh. Hit the brakes to slow down..... damn getting to near... hit it harder and it immediately skidded straight on fast approaching another newer generation civic. At the time the speed was estimated to be about 90kmh. My ABS equipped right leg ( laugh.gif ) pumping away to gather further front grip..It managed to slow down more but still not enough. It happened soo fast that in that split second in order to possibly crash out...., my corner of my eyes looked left at the side mirror to spot if there is any headlamp resembling a car at my side. Let go brakes, swerve left, brake again....missing the front car rear bumper by mere inches....phewwwwww!!!!! Lucky my rear didnt "buang" as a result if got sure masuk monsoon drain at the left portion of the road.

That was the most intense moment of my life. Reliving past a possible fatal accident. True story.

I bet you did not keep your distance. That's the problem with drivers nowadays. Driving too close to the car in front & driving with worn out tires. Someone here is comparing an RM72K 1.5cc Toyota Vios J spec. with an RM50K plus 1.6cc Persona. Totally way out of line.

Have been reading this thread for some time & I realized how lucky I am for getting a trouble free Persona M-Line Auto (just wonder how many are like me). My 9mths. (13K Km.) old have been serving me very well on my daily trips between Kepong Baru & USJ 1 & my only qualms are not of my car's but the bad traffic, uneven roads & psycho drivers I come across. Just for everyone's to share with, the only excruciatingly abnormal sound emanating from my car was from the rear foldable seat lock striker which I solved with a DIY tape job myself. As for the air-con. hissing sound, initially there was the sound but its gone for good after a while. Maybe the system needs running-in. That's why, I tell you guys, please do not panic or jump the gun (is that how they say it?)

For my power windows, so far so good. NO ABNORMAL SOUND. I make it a habit to wipe clean the windows every 2 days & run them all daily. I reckon it's worst if you don't run them. And I suppose Proton or anyone else will not tell you to lubricate the areas of the widow glasses that slides against the rubber on the window frames. I have been lubricating my window glasses without fail every two week or so just for precaution. I use he silicon based spray lube. I advise newbies to lubricate their windows because the rubber glass run in new cars have not contracted (due to sun's heat) & is grabing very tightly on the glass thus straining the motor & regulator mechanisms. After a couple of months expose to the elements, the glass will be looser but you still have to lubricate them.

I got my car in Sept. 2009, and I don't see any valve beneath the power steering fluid reservoir/container. And my car miraculously does not have that so-called "klonk" sound at the front suspension. I just wonder why so many of you guy's car have this problem. Maybe the problem was solved by the time I got my car. What else? Quick wearing Front Brake Pads dirtying rims. Small problem. Will change them soon with Korean made Delphi which I have already bought. Rear Drum Brake sound? Came & gone. By the way, I always use my own lubes for my periodic services except the oil filter & the SC here in Kepong has no problem with that because the lube I use happens to be a Proton vendor also, Delphi 10w 40 Semi Syn. I always buy all the service items long before I actually go to the SC. That way, I don't feel that I am spending so much on the car at one go. Any I get those stuff at wholesale. I am in the automotive parts business. So if you guys wish to know Persona part prices, you know where to turn to. I am quite busy but I can help out whenever I can.

Overall, I honestly feel that I made a good buy & should I encounter any future problems there is still the warranty & if that expires, I feel the Persona parts are very affordable compared to imports.

P.S. Please don't bash Proton because you are unlucky. Bash yourself for being poor. Poor in making the decision to buy a Proton. I am poor also but hopefully not unlucky. Cheers!

i found out that after putting my persona in the sun this afternoon, the top part on the driver's door interior have some bumps. Will try to post some pics tomorrow when the light is better.
*
The extreme UV sun rays that we get in Malaysia or for that matter, this region, is not only bad for Proton cars but all cars. I owned a Nissan prior to the current Persona & believe me, the effects of the sun on a car using imported components is just as bad. Plastic parts of my old Nissan would deform, grey colours turn whitish, black steering column switches turns whitish. Unless your window glasses are super dark tinted, your interior trim parts will deteriorate if exposed to prolonged sun rays. Alternatively, park you car in-doors or under the shade. Pointless to complain about defects if you do not take all the necessary precautions. There is always a price to pay to ensure that you car looks good. Try to park in-doors at all times.

It depends how you think...

For me, i would buy a cheap good car to go from point A to point B.

1. now a days, accidents don't give warning... although you are very careful driver, going turn corners with the right speed, slow down on junctions, you don't kacau other driver and other driver won't kacau you. well, this is not totally true... you can't explain those cars which lost control suddenly driving towards you and BOOM! the accident occur and its not your fault!... you know what i mean...

2. you car just park at the right place at the right time and you when shopping, come out just to see your car door got other ppl's car color with a little dent... or worst, your car being knock on the door or bumper with a large patch of other ppl's car color...

3. And not to mention those ppl who like to write words on your new car or old car with new paints with their keys...

4. Other car with the same level as Persona. (vios, city, mazda 2 and etc)... THEY COST MORE IN MALAYSIA only! I think you all should know this, all these cars actually cost the same price as our Persona. I was thinking, why the shit should i pay more that doesn't worth that much in the global market? letting the "special body" earn the extra? no way man! not with my hard earn money!

all these too added into thinking of buying what car smile.gif

Old story told for the umpteenth time. Can we focus on something more positive like practical enhancements eg. starter switch cylinder light, interior LED lights, good accessory shops, replacement parts etc.

Are your car's rear seats the foldable type? Could be the cushion striker. It has to be insulated.

Yes service interval is every 10k. BIG problem is...... SC will always swear by the every 5k service. For me, i do not give a damn. 10k service interval is what i am following according to service booklet. End of the day, i am still within its warranty requirements.

Our auto market is badly poisoned by 5k oil change bullshit.
*
Dude. Do that at your peril. After all, it is your car. But don't expect others to follow your advice. I'm using a reputable Semi 10W 40 & when my ride is nearing the end of the 5K Km cycle, the oil is black as hell & I can feel a significant difference compared to when the oil is new. If you are using Fully Syn, by all means, 10K Km cycle is OK. I feel the service booklet is grossly wrong in the oil change intervals (Should be for fully syn)

If you read the user's manual, Proton recommends 20W 50 (which should be mineral) Try this & your FC will shoot up & it is like riding a buffalo up hill.

For set of two or per piece? Original is RM540.26 each. Quality is a ? Will colour fade fast? Actually original is very stingy on the number of LEDs. Very turn-off by the small number of LEDs. Even a smaller & cheaper Myvi has more LEDs for its Rear lamps. If the colour last, I feel this Non-OE looks better than the OE.

after market brake really does make a difference. no regret

Why can't everyone who visits this thread & complains about a Proton accepts the fact that it is a car that is not meant to last. I mean all Proton cars. If the Proton part suppliers or vendors manufactures parts that last forever, that is suicide for them. Same for Proton. From a businessman's point of view, everything is calculated. Even Proton does not want their customers to use their product forever. For the price you are paying, don't expect much. After all, good quality Proton alternative replacement parts are easily available & affordable.

Try owning a new Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Peugeot, Hyundai,Naza, Kia etc. of about the same class, if you don't earn 5K nett/mth. & above don't dream! At least in Proton, a person who say, makes about 3Knett/mth. (assuming HOUSE mortgage=1K, CAR & PETROL=1K) he or she can still survive owning a new car. For what it is worth, the Persona is not bad. My anniversary is up in a month's time & a neighbour recently ask me about the performance of my car. My Reply? No regrets. Highly recommended. That's my honest opinion. I can't hear that from some of you guys. That's unfortunate for those with bad experiences.

POTENTIAL NEW PROTON OWNERS BEWARE! DON' SAY YOU HAVE NOT BEEN WARNED. (& regret later)

For all concerned drivers. Please note that good brake pads are made up of materials that are not too soft nor too hard. Too soft, and they will wear off at the blink of an eye & mess up your rims with black powder. Too hard, the disc is going to wear off in no time. There is a limit to the number of times you can skim them. Disc cost itself is RM257 each. So the ? is, What brand of brake pads are the most ideal in terms of price & usage.

Please bear in mind that the friction materials of brake pads are meant to slow down the vehicle over a certain distance & time and not at once. If you want your vehicle to stop dead the moment you press the brake pedal at high speeds, the vehicle will either skid or flip. Thats why manufacturers of brake pads & shoes are always experimenting with new materials to find the most ideal. It has been mentioned many times before. Stay alert & keep your distance from the vehicle in front & you'll be OK.

By the way. Persona & Gen-2 front pads are the same. I have been running on Delphi pads for more than a week & judging from the appearance of my rims, pad wear is minimal. I can hardly see any black powder. Performance, definitely much better than original.

yes it is indeed. recommended to change.
