All sifus,

I just reward myself with F58AM flash and Tammy SP90 macro lens.
Pls educate me with:

- How to use flash with correct setting?
What is TTL ? Zoom etc ?

- Observed my macro lens is in slow focus when at 1:1, unable to point to correct target. This is because of related with body setting?

Pls help.. Thanks

around RM500~RM600 smile.gif ... is better that you having a long lasting tripod than break a few couple of RM1xx tripod rite?

Saw the review about this tripod and seems pretty good and reliable ... xD

thankfully the poisons are getting cheaper and cheaper. laugh.gif

my digicolor one about rm180 or is it rm150 also lea...the platform already wobbling when i put my a300 + flashgun... cry.gif

is it my problem or tripod problem? sigh.

btw which tripod is better? the roller ball one or the flat surface one?

i know ballhead can rotate to more weird and hard to reach angles, it also cost more right?

Well I think RM600 for many people is too much xD (No offense yeah >.<), if you're not so serious about tripod I think Benro may be enough (I'm not tested it so I'm not so sure about their quality)
That (Giottos one) tripod adds on with more macro angle adjustment material wise is more tough and durable plus the price is estimated together with the ballhead.

Congrats. TTL means through the lens, meaning the camera will take the metering from what light that comes through the lens. So it the flash will fire twice, 1st blast will be used as a gauge to let the camera meter the light needed to add or minus, 2nd blast will be the correct exposure. Its the next best thing u have in your flash apart from the flash lamp itself.

The zoom function is so that the light coming out from the flash is thrown in a tighter or wider spread. The tighter the flash beam, the brighter, hence further the light transverse. Eg. 24mm flash zoom, wider spread of light, 105mm tighter.

Macro lenses are like that, its so that its easier to micro adjust the focal plane to the one u want, thus a smaller gear ratio. So it is VERY recommended to use manual focus when at 1:1 magnification. thumbup.gif

Benro travel angel travel angel travel angel~ hahaha someone brought it here, forgot who, ask him for opinion... that tripod as far i know (tested it when i am in KL) it is by far, more stable then ANY china made tripod i tested... (benro from china too tongue.gif) the quality control is superb.

boyzone: marco, if u are inexperience, u really need a TRIPOD, it gives u idea how the focusing works, understanding how ur "body (human)" affect the camera body and results. smile.gif use tripod first. set flash to TTL, dont worry bout it, TTL = Auto. later when u more experience with how to handle ur camera body, then only u play around with the manual flash or TTL. for the zoom, if me, i open the wide plate, let the light bounce to side and bounce back, making the whole area nicely lit. depends on u, if auto, it will turn to 105mm, which the snoot(zoomed) flash might be too strong.

for macro, it is also recommended that u use off-camera flash. Diffuse the pop up flash if possible.

For now, u can ignore the zoom function on the flash, till u mastered how your flash effects an image, then will it be time for u to learn about the zoom function. On auto, it should work fine 90% of the time.

Ginolo, i dont think he meant auto focus in this context.

Added on June 15, 2010, 12:52 pmfor the mean time, experiment with your flash. Try different setups to get one that you think suits your shooting. On camera, off camera, bounce, reflected, diffused, gel (another syllabus on its own), direct.. Give them a try, u can find many articles on it if u google.
