just to share my experience. i went to perhentian island (kecil) last month from 13-16may. there were only two of us, girls. the trip was free n easy because we didnt want to be restricted by the package activities. we stayed in dorm at Mohsin Chalet. the dorm was nice and clean with double decker beds. they are basic but comfortable enough.we left our things in the dorm and nothing was stolen. we were the only locals who stayed in the dorm, the rest were foreigners.it's ok if you are on a budget and not expecting a luxury chalet so here are the cost breakdown

bus from Putra station to K.Terengganu (tickets to K. Besut already sold out) = RM40.10

taxi from K.Terengganu bus station to K. Besut jetty = RM90 (per taxi)

return boat fare = RM70 (RM35 one way)

dorm = RM 30 (per night)

meal package = RM50 (per day; three times)

snorkelling = rm60 (7 spots)

taxi from K. Besut to KB Airport = RM 70 per taxi ( nego in Kelantanese dialect; the driver brought us to the best Keropok lekor stall and even stopped at Nasi Kukus stall for lunch)

Flight ticket (bought during promo) = rm79

overall, it was a great trip. with the weather outlook spotty at best, we enjoyed our time there.

and i am planning to go back there very very soon.

gabanpink, thanks for your information.
Did you booked the rooms to your dorms before you got there?

nope. walk in only. if i am not mistaken, mohsin chalet always update their package (dorm and room as well) on their facebook profile. and plus, the dorm is equipped with air-cond.

the trip was planned last minute. when we reached the jetty, the agents there told us that all the rooms in perhentian kecil were fully booked. they advised us to just walk in. we bought the boat ticket and told the boatman to drop us at the long beach. we went to mohsin (where no rooms left) and the staff offered us to stay at the dorm.

it was much more convenient that way since both of us spent a lot of time at the beach. we only go back to the dorm to change clothes and to sleep. it would be a waste of money if we stayed in a chalet.

Hey, where can i buy the boat transport ticket to perhentian island? Is the ticket tied together with the hotel?  I plan to have 6 people stay in a 4 person hotel room, I'm worried that the boat ticket is tied to the hotel room and would only allow me 4 boat tickets.
