Not sure if you've decided but, here's a thought that hasn't been mentioned: you could do a year abroad/student exchange thing. I'm quite sure universities like University of Melbourne or NUS have links to the UK!

To answer the initial question, yes. but then again, my circumstances probably differ from yours.
