My question is about MCACC on my Pioneer VSX919 AVR. I did the auto MCACC with the mic at ear level on the couch equidistant between the Front right and left. The result was that the front left and right channels were not set at the same level. The level of the front right was higher ( 1-2 db ) than that of the front left. I’m guessing that this is because of the structure of my TV room.

The room is about 13’ long and 12’ wide and opens up on the right to the main living hall. On the left is a wall with windows and a door which I keep closed when watching movies. So the Front left is sort of in a corner with a closed door on the left and a wall behind.

Question is do I leave the front channels at the levels set by the MCACC or do I adjust it so that both are equal. If so, which level do I set them at – the front left or front right. I am having the same problem with the surround speakers. Would be grateful if anyone can help. smile.gif

Leave it as it is unless you have a SPL meter to cross check the level being set. This is due to the room acoustic.

Based on ur description of ur room layout, it seems correct that due to the opening MCACC is compensating by increasing the levels of ur right channels. As htkaki said, leave it as such, unless u can double check with a SPL Meter, but it does seem correct. Getting teh speaker trims, MCACC does pretty well.

Thanks bros Htkaki and anfieldude. Yes, MCACC does a pretty good job as the listening experience is just amazing after the setup. Tried Avatar and Dark Knight yesterday and the AQ was really great. The surround channels were really active but not overpowering. biggrin.gif

I ran MCACC a second time and it listed my Front speakers ( Tannoy Mercury MX2 ) and Surround ( Mission - dont know the model ) as Large. Centre ( AAD 201i ) was categorized as Small.

Is it recommended to change all the speakers to Small and re-run MCACC to use the small speaker settings. The crossover has been currently set to 100Hz. Would this have an adverse effect on the overall sound.

I actually quite like the sound of the settings mentioned above ( Front and Surround as Large ) but I'm afraid that the speakers may not be able to take the load.

If u hv a sub in the system, I would suggest to set as small and let the sub handle the low frequencies. No need to re-run MCACC. Do u have xovers for each channel or only one xover for all?

My advise is to leave the xover at waht MCACC suggested and not change them. There will be no filters below the xover point so that is not advised.
