im using froyo on my N1 now, works smoothly except for my Handcent now become useless(dev  shud upodate their apps for froyo). overall, it is faster n vr smooth. the most significant changes dat i could feel is its battery life, really become more efficient and lasts longer. before this N1 battery really sux a lot  rclxms.gif

Agreed. I have Froyo on my N1 too and it was really smooth! I just had my N1 for one day actually and surprise surprise Froyo came! With my short time on 2.1, a lot of the navigation within the UI has a tiny weebit of stuttering especially with the notification bar. Don't get me wrong but its still smooth. The Froyo just made it look like butter biggrin.gif

Apps2SD won't work now because developers need to add some simple commands onto their apps I heard. No big issues for me. I can wait for that. Adobe Flash Player works beautiful throughout the system and most of my apps work.

don't worry.. i think Milestone will be the fastest among android manufacturers in giving out new updates..
*
Yeah, Milestone can really catch up on the updates even faster if not because of Motorola's 'business consideration' policy. First its a plain vanilla UI though not connected to Google but to Motorola's own servers.

I think HTC devices will have a harder time getting updates due to that Sense UI. But it gets great support from custom developers.

I guess most of our sympathy should be given to X10 users. Not even any news for Froyo! laugh.gif

At least, for HTC users, there's still hope.

SE must be cursing right now. All their hardwork to update the UI for 2.1 and there goes 2.2. All wasted in what... mere months?

I think SE has a different mindset with respect to updates. Its as if SE is seeing the X10 as a feature phone and it doesn't want its customers to bother about what lying underneath as long as the features advertised is there. That goes well with regular consumers, but not geeks like us hehehehe... If you bought or understand SE's featurephone products, you will know what I'm talking.

hmm.gif FYI SE x1 ( whistling.gif WinMo  doh.gif ) including rclxms.gif x10 rclxm9.gif had been built by HTC...so it makes no difference.....smile.gif

No wait, you're getting it wrong. Even if HTC build the hardware for them, it has a difference. The user interface shell clearly is a property of SE. All those Time Scape thing is introduced by SE and not HTC. The speed in introducing new updates is really being hampered by all these user interface shell.

HTC (Sense UI), Motorola (MotoBLUR), SE (Timescape, etc) all have this problem. The difference is SE seems to be the slower of the 3 (besides being slow into the hardware introduction).

So what difference do you mean? SE seem to have a different strategy with respect to all this Android revision thing. All it needs is a stable platform. SE lost the UIQ and it was a failure, enough said. It is still at the ARM9 featurephones using proprietary A100/200 platform. It desperately need a smartphone OS. What is more easy than to adopt Android? Motorola did the same thing with some reasonable success. So if it is using Android 1.6. So what? Because SE clearly markets the X10 for the 'SE features' like 8MP camera, etc etc rather than features introduced by new Android revisions.

But geeks don't see the same thing. They want to be ahead of the game. They want Android 2.1 (and now 2.2). SE seems to be slow. That is where I'm pointing at. nod.gif

Took the exact words right out of my mouth.

And worst is, the X10, much like other phones that SE did after their last hero phone, is like a half baked product. It looks beautifully finished, but inside it still lacks a lot of features. Most notably is the multi touch display. SE used to up the aces with great phones like the K700i, W800i, K800/810i and not to mention the P1i. The P1i was a very good PDA back then. 3 years later, disappointing.
*
Yeah I truly agree with you. SE seems to have problem with talents. Why? They seem to have problems introducing new hardware. When was the first time they introduced ARM9 processors to their phones? Since from the beginning. Their 'latest' home grown PDA phone was still on ARM9. In fact, its the same core platform from A100/200 with some enhancements.

All this while SE never really talk much about their phone hardware. Instead, they pulled a typical Sony. Focusing more on features and convergence. All of a sudden, they realize they don't have an ecosystem to support their product (they don't have an OS, they don't have an App store). This is where Android comes in.

AND STILL THEY NEED HTC to build them the X10? SE has a lot of catching up to do. I sincerely hope X10 is not another half baked half supported product. I mean it does have the looks and the software seems to be fantastic if not for some slight stuttering here and there.

P1i?  laugh.gif
For me, the phone is like a prototype from SE..
The designation is a little bit clumsy.. sad.gif
And i really don't like it.. unsure.gif
*
Yeah it was really disappointing. P1i with 128MB of RAM and everyone was really excited about it. But the bugs really spoiled the show. No fixes or software update for a long time. Then suddenly SE comes out and say... this will be the last update ever for P1. Then in a few months, they shut down UIQ. Everyone was pissed!

Hmm .. i would say the battery is much better with 2.2 ..... i watched some (Flash) videos on Megavideo.com for over one hour, played Flash games for another hour on kongregate.com, browsing + SMSing for 1-2 hours ... and standby phone for 24 hours before i got the red bar battery warning (at 10%)

I would say it was a leap of improvement actually.

Actually I don't see a big jump in battery life like you all did. On average, my mileage is at most slightly more than 1 one day. I mostly access FB, Twitter and Engadget app on the go.

To those of you who are running Froyo on your N1s, we have a custom kernel coming up for you guys. If you have been aware of the LDC kernel, this will be similar to it, and have a mere 21MB of free extra RAM for your Froyo'd N1s. You guys can take the brain freeze? wink.gif

OMG OMG OMG Brain Freeze! Hehehehe
