sorry for not being active here as I got notification from facebook for me to come back here for a while.
As for the policies, is unfair for me if I ask students to fight and be with SRC while most of the students disagree. How to fight as even I cannot build the case. Hence, my request is very simple, attend the discussion first. After management present the implementation, and after students understand the system, only only decide whether is good or not. Obviously if mejority students disagree, and those affected do sign the petition, I will fight to the end. but I do not want to posion students mind. Let this be addressed first. Then only you deicde if it's good. If students who are affected does not like it... then we fight to the end. Even I was sacked or SRC being demolished. I don't even care. I care about students. i listen to students and I will address to the majority... |

I cannot satisfy all students but I can only help majority of them. SRC will go around and collect signature.. The details that you wrote clearly shows that you do not understand the system. Hence, please wait for the town hall to make sure you understand the system.
People disagree in general upon not understand the system. I can explain to you if you are in Melaka... Most of the people, after I explain... They agree with the implementation... QUOTE(vapeace @ Oct 31 2010, 11:48 PM) Thanks for reappearing after so long how do you consider a student disagree ? It already a proven fact most of the student disapprove the new policies. Who would like to take 7 subject and faced a greater chances of failure ? Me ? You ? or everyone else ? Next on the agenda, Fixed payment policies.. let say i am under probation and only able to take 4 subject max.. or easier i fail one of the core subject, so i am unable to take the next subject because i fail the core.. so i have max 4 subjects, but i have to pay extra rm1000+ for nothing ? i wont mind if someone willing to sponsor the extra rm1k for me. There already a case, only dont have the man power to fight for the case how the discussion going take a significant changes ? if MMU is already planned to go ahead, the current discussion is just a place to say "Hey, we are here not to negotiate, we are here just to inform you that we will go ahead with plan regardless you complain or not !" In my assumption, it safe to say, SRC already fail the first and most vital discussion, which is to convince them (MMU) that the policies is not beneficial to fellow students. This is not the first time such situation happen. Please take a look back at the implementation of the IT fees. MMU announce IT fees -> SRC go against -> Discussion with MMU and SRC -> discussion fail -> IT fee will be implemented -> MMU held discussion, IT fees will be implemented no matter what the excuse -> SRC ask for discount (at least SRC managed to achieve something i come to notice of the appeal letter by src, if i not mistaken https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B9CD3D...zFj&hl=en&pli=1 although most of the discussion and reasoning is valid, but what caught my attention the pie chart ! There no percentage of people agree and disagree. It is safe to assume, 80% disagree, 20% disagree ? or 70% disagree and 30% agree ? It may seem trivial, but bare in mind if 30% of the student of MMU agree.. That amount of student is enough for MMU admin to justified their new policies I at Melaka campus, where is the petition board ? i wish to sign it but i seem not able to find it anywhere. Yes i know u care about the student foremost and your priority. I still remember the polling day, you mention the same thing to all fellow students. But did you heard the phrase "sympathy alone earn beggar no money" it mean, feeling alone is not enough to give result ! I hope to hear good news from you and SRC soon. Regain the confidence of fellow students on SRC that have long diminish. Last but not least, sorry for my harsh tone and aggressive nature.. i am feeling down at the moment |

Seriosuly, if i can explain it here, i will. But the system is a bit complicated. However, the good thing from fix payment it. Students can retake, resit and etc for free. Only one time payment.
Its true that if one semester, if u take only 1 subject, around 5K will be charged. But if you take the remaining subjects later, you will not need to pay because you have paid the subject. Fixed payment is the same as credit hour charges. At the end, you will still pay the same amount. But if want me to explain all the policies, see me in person. I will explain.. |

See, the petition was used to show students support us and disagree with the policy. Those implementation, some are good but some are not. I cannot say I have to agree or disagree as those policies does not give impact to me personally.
Hence, the students who are affected will need to listen and think. Talking about far sighted, I see no reason students park along Jalan Dahlia when there is a new car park allocated. Students give reason that: 1) The road isn't tar. (But students drive 10 years old car also can survive. Even ride a 10 year old motor will come out in one piece. Just need to drive slow. Instead, students pile up at the CLC car park there and wait for parking. If cannot get parking, students go back and sleep. And when lecturer ask, students say cannot find parking and went back home. Is this a good attitutude from students. Students come late to class and expect parking to be there. They can go round and round in CLC car park for 30 Minutes but just do not want to go to the new car park. This shows that students only do things last minute. Even print exam slip. Monday 9am exam, monday 8am only print. If cannot print, find SRC. (speechless). If the car park is far, then if you go Jusco and park quite far, will you still walk? I do agree with students questioning about the IT fees and I already ring this matter up to Prof.Zaharin. I ask for his justification based on the improvement in terms of IT facilities. Internet connection was really bad especially last semester. I told him, is this a "Multimedia" university. He was unable to answer as well. Then, I told him to at least do something before students do something. The discussion set on Friday was for the management to show and present their justification. There are some problems identified in those implementation as well. And since most students are not affected (only June 2010) students, petition that students signed, only some can be used. Hence, SRC and the Management have finally agreed that the Management will adress to the students. This is not to backward the policy or implementation but to explain only. As if the students who are affected does not agree and comply, then only SRC can fight for them. Students barely know about the implementation until SRC highlight this. If we want, we can sit back and do nothing. Why should we waste resources in the campaign. I disagree that SRC has failed in the first meeting on Friday. In the meeting, we have highlighted problems and etc. Finally, the management agrees that SRC should be involved in decision making process. This is because, every time, SRC was not involved in decision making and those implementation does no pass thru us. All SRC is willing to resign on that day if our objective was not being achieved. Now, we do not know what majority students think. However, I have explained this implementation to quite a number of students and I would say 80% of them seemed ok. I was shocked too... SRC and students need to work together. I really do not think we should poison the students mind (those who are affected). Hope this answers.. |

Hmm, I think I have to thank everyone here for your constructive viewpoint as it is important and good to highlight the things that both stevanistelrooy and vapeace. We need those ideas for us to move on.
Personally, before this, management does not even care about SRC. Thats what SRC campaign was all about. It was done aggressively to tell the management not to implement things without informing SRC and students. Added on November 1, 2010, 3:57 pmwhat I am asking is very simple. Students should attend the session with management and hear out first before jumping to conclusion... This post has been edited by gavinfernando: Nov 1 2010, 03:57 PM |

Guys, I am really happy to see the feedback. Most comments and details given are good for further improvement of SRC.
Let us work together to achieve whats best. Not for us! Please do not think only for your self. Think for the University. When I help students, never before I asked, did you vote for me? Who did or did not vote, is not important anymore. I won the presidency means I have my responsibility to execute. Being SRC for these years, I somehow wish students can be more united. And people like vapeace.. vapeace said "because i dont feel they could not make a diff even they give sweet promises during campaign" would be the people I like to most. Because I always like to put challenges ahead and use that as motivation for me to prove that wrong... |

The fundamental reason to establish SRC is to help students and be the bridge between students and management.
With the latest implementation, if in any case, after the Town Hall session scheduled next week; and students who are affected still disagree, by all means, SRC will need to fight for them. |

nolar. Cox is under Admin when is the closing date for the PTPTN application. After u ask admin if everything is ok, then only u call PTPTN. If u call PTPTN straight, they might tell u to ask admin.

I think I have stated my goals and objective clearly from the day I started my election.
It’s in my profile since the first day I step in to the election. And until now, this is my guide. Just to share. Now, ask me again if I did not answer any of the questions… Added on November 6, 2010, 3:26 amOn top of that, it would be: 1) Conduct all IPTA meeting hosted by MMU 2) Tax Exemption for companies that sponsor MMU's event (on the way) 3) Demolish IT Fees (It was implemented in 2008 to increase the bandwidth. but now already increase and yet, IT facilities are still back to date) if the management still want to charge students, it should be "Transparent". Students should know where the money goes. Its our money! 4) After the TownHall, SRC will gather feedback and should there be any case, students disagree, SRC will have to fight until this thing is being abolished. (If majority does not agree and the management still want to continue, we will fight until we are being sacked!) Added on November 6, 2010, 3:33 amand sorry to tell.. I have been parking my car at the new car park if I cannot find parking. I am a student too.. Added on November 6, 2010, 3:37 amI think I am in a forum. Even in Facebook, I say what I think is right. But I have been saying, if I think is right, does not mean other think is right too. Thats why I am here.. If you think I am wrong, justify then. After all, name me other SRC presidents that have been sticking their head in this forum and announcing things via networks.. I am here because I care. I want to know what others think. As simple as that.. This post has been edited by gavinfernando: Nov 6 2010, 03:37 AM |

Of course I am not saying that I am the best of SRC President. My point is I took initiative in getting more feedback from students.
And as for the SRC Exco not being in SRC Room, I frankly have to admit as is SRC member who did not come for duty. Making announcements and clarification are not best used in networking places. But is one of the best way to get feedback and quick notification. Even SRC did our booth and not many turnups.. If I were to compare the amount of complaints and comments I got from Facebook, it would be more than exco's opening booths.. Exco's did do their part. But students just dont come. On the other hand, I expect SRC to come down and see students more often than sticking themselves in the room. I have worked my way around SRC and I had personally faced quite a number of comments and criticism. But look, no one is perfect. And is human's nature to point people's mistake instead of highlighting the previous deeds that was good. No matter where SRC goes, there are always people who say we are just not good enough. In Asia, people like to compare. As in how we are being brought up. Parents compare their kids with their neighbors kid. So, living our lives until now, there are always people criticizing. Back to SRC, is students who always criticize. But I think is good as the criticism carry us back on track. To make it short, people just like to point work by word or statement by statement made. What we do are always wrong and never right. If you think that you are one of them, tell you what.. Why not joining SRC and know the system. Then you will know what I mean.. Deal with students and management. Then you will see how "beautiful" the "system" in MMU. I had spend nearly my entire stay in MMU changing the system.. SRC is useless without students. So, have faith. Faith as in not only to believe in us, but to support us. Every implementation has their own reason. IT fees was imposed in 2008 as management says is best to upgrade the bandwidth. I do agree with the implementation, but not now. There does not seemed to be any changes after that. During that time, when SRC fight, merely 100 people came. SRC and students need to work together. We need your support... |

QUOTE(vapeace @ Nov 6 2010, 06:57 PM) Dear Mr President Frankly, I am not happy parking at the new car park. That is not the best place to park. But why park it at jalan dahlia? This is act of selfish. If there is emergency case that need the bomba people to come, they cannot even enter MMU. And the best way is using the front gate. With students getting more and more creative parking their cars at Jalan Dahlia (even bus also cannot pass), what does this reflects?so i see you have park at the new parking lot, so how was the place ? best spot to park your car ? i asking it sincerely although i already expected what answer you will give. i been itching to ask, have you wonder why not many turn up ? dont worry i among the 100 who turn up that day also, although it just a while. I think back during the IT fee, i can see almost no banner or publication in campus regarding the issues. At least, now i will congratulate SRC for at least having a pamphlet regarding the policies pasted in the lift ! Then again where the petition board in melaka campus ? it not SRC is not good enough now, it already no good since last time. Senior told me SRC now and then, there no difference. They will just agree to what management told them. so are you regretting your decision being SRC president, if you cant handle the pressure, there always the option to quit. It because we the students dont what to handle those tedious matter between management, SRC is born. If there none, is there a need for SRC the first place ? Petition in Melaka? We never done any petition in Melaka. Lets be frank, Melaka students are very active compared to cyber. If we were to spark this in Melaka, I bet students will pour in. But we decided to move on with Cyber first as is our strategy. We want the management to see, only one campus, there are already so many petition. FYI, 3000 over petition was collected. but in the 3000, around 600 people are affected. We can do more in Melaka. Which includes putting more pamplets around campus during the campaign. But MMU Melaka is just too small. We did not get approval from STAD and pasted the paper around campus. End up, I was called up and being scold by STAD for not following the rules and regulation in MMU. but who cares that scolding, my main objective was to inform students. If you think SRC now is no good since last time, I would humbly ask if you can give me the chance to prove you wrong. If I agree what management told, I wont be initiating SRC campaign (no policy) campaign few weeks back. And I am going to initiate (Y campaign) which its aim is to know, (Y=why) so many things have been imposed but no improvement which includes IT fees. I never regretted my decision by becoming SRC president. But I am just not so happy if students keep on complaining and when we fight, they disappear. I think right now, what I am asking is very fair. I am asking students to attend the townhall and understand the system before fighting. No point fighting without knowing the cause and do not understand anything. If you think SRC was born just to handle management, you are wrong. SRC consist of students as well. And SRC cannot and would not be able to stand alone without students support. Else, it would be one sided. SRC does not only deal "tedious" matter with management as that is only one of our scope. There are much other things that we should look into. I have to admit, SRC in IPTS are immature and not being recognized as any form of body. We are never told beforehand what is going to happen and never being included in discussion before decision is being made. Thats why this year, I want SRC to step up higher and show that they are wrong. Trust me, there are more to come.. |
