I want to connect a projector to astro byond. HDMI cable too expensive so thinking of using component video/cable to pull the video instead. As far as I know the component cable is only 3 cables R G B... but now the installer here say that i need another cable to connect(the yellow RCA). dont really understand what he is saying but the question i have is:

If I connect only the 3 component cables (3 RCA) from my astro decoder to my projector, will i get image?

Thanks...

Well, you can connect all 4...HDMI, Svideo, Yellow RCA, Component cable from a source and then select which one you want on the projector.

But safe to say, if you oledi connect the component cable, then it should be enough....unless you need the Yellow RCA as spare if the Component cable gets faulty...could be the case if you projector is in a difficult location to access its cables

Actually, if you use component, u will another optical cable to get the 5.1 sound, or another 2 red & white cable to get the stereo sound.
Component only for video.
HDMI cable not expensive lar...2 meter only RM15 in Tesco/Carrfore nia...
there's one for sale in hifi4sale 2M Girrafe one asking RM59 only
1 cable kau-tim everything

If to projector, RGB should do the work but does Astro b.yond allow HD video output using component?

I just need HD video streamed. So just component cable enough (3 x RCA) correct?

I would recommend also connecting the composite cable - just in case the component output fails, at least you'll get a picture, or need to be able to run setup etc etc. Don't need expensive cable - just ordinary RCA run will do fine.

Always useful to have a backup, no?

Also, if sometime in the future you choose to run video via AV receiver switching, you will need the composite connection for setting up the AVR. It's useful to already have a cable put in now, so that you don't have to tear open the cabling to install one at a later date.

Meanwhile - have you checked prices for HDMI cables at Monoprice? You might even find a brother here selling some reasonably priced HDMI sourced from Monoprice. If you do go this route, make sure you also connect the composite, just in case.

No HD if fed with component output. Only 576i/p.

If u want, HD from byond, then u need to use HDMI.

The box can output either 720p or 1080i, its ur choice. I believe the source could be both.

However, it can only output HD thru HDMI.

errr... if not mistaken Component and VGA you can get FULL HD signal also but u cannot get 1080p maximum only 1080i or 720p...
no matter what HDMI or component or even DVI u use the image display on the TV is depends on the source also if the upscaling DVD/Media player/VCD/Console (any stuff la) sucks then the picture u get on the TV also no good...

i believe this link might helps u... http://www.ramelectronics.net/howto-av.ep
read thru and see... cheers... my sharp LCD accept Full HD 1080i signal from analog and 1080p from digital source...

If you can shorten a bit, you can get 10m HDMI cable for RM126 local. Otherwise, you need to get from monoprice or bluejeans.

Astro Byond can only output HD (720p/1080i) via HDMI. Component & composite only can output 576i.

U r getting confused. The B.Yond box does not output HD over component. That is what the TS asked. Not whether u can send out a hd signal thru component or VGA.

For HDCP Astro and most cable operators use HDMI only for HD content to prevent piracy.

I did not say that u cannot get a HD signal from component cable I was merely stating the fact taht the astro beyond box does not output HD over component.

PS: 1080i is not termed as Full HD, but it is HD or HD Ready. 1080p is termed as Full HD or HD Ready 1080p.

sky,

I am confused by ur statement. The HD channels are transmitted in 16:9 aspect ratio so of course u will not see the black bars. This has nothing to do with the component cables or HDMI.

If the convertor is HDCP compliant, yes. However, the converters taht are HDCP compliant are not really cheap as well. U might want to google HDFury2/3 if u still plan on going that route.

Pace has the HDCP pretty well covered so watch out about this. Make sure that the convertor u get is HDCP compliant else all u will get is the copy protection screen on ur pj.

Hmm... where can I get one locally? How expensive is it?

What is HDCP? How will I know if it is HDCP compliant...? rclxub.gif

Found this on Ebay

HDMI to RCA

Where can I get something similar here in Malaysia?

Trust me, in the end it is easier to just get a longer HDMI cable. Both BlueJeans Cable and Monoprice ship to Malaysia. The HDFury2 is USD199 with shipping. I am not sure if it is available locally.

HDCP - High bandwidth Digital Copyright Protection tries to prevent piracy of digital signals (ie, transmissions, satellite) among others.

I think the best way is to relocate your decoder to be nearer with your pj. Then you can buy 10m HDMI cable locally.
