Hi I came to think that the anti-virus that I'm currently using,AVG Free, does not come with enough protection. So I want to use another anti-virus software..
Is Kaspersky Internet Security good and reliable? If I choose this,I must uninstall AVG first before installing this right?

Instead on buying or going kaspersky trial, try Avira or Avast 5 (free one), or even MSE.... smaller download size.... @TiF, a good place to start is http://www.av-comparatives.org ... for others, ask unker Gugel....

Better go for Avast! 5 Free .. File/Web/Mail/IM/P2P/Network/Behavorial Shield Pair it up with the built in Windows Vista/7 Firewall it would be like an Internet Security oredi BTW, there's no perfect AV/IS .. So you may keep MalwareBytes Anti Malware in your PC to scan ur system once a month/if you feel ur PC infected just in case the AV/IS missed anything.. It doesn't provide real-time protection so won't consume any resource. This post has been edited by Eugene91: May 20 2010, 10:42 PM

I've already use all kind of free AV with the combination of HIPS and Anti-Spyware but
all of them(AV) are not perfect. i still get infected. I dunno why.
now i upgraded my security by adding 3rd party firewall.
choosing an AV is like a gamble.

Personally, I think that no matter what anti virus you use, safe surfing habits is still the most important factor of all. Of course, don't go believing that you can do fine without any anti virus software either. No matter what, you need SOMETHING. Just think of it as a basic insurance policy. You have it, yet you're not gonna stick around until you get injured, are you? I have tried AVG(7,8,9), Avira(9 and 10), Avast(4 and 5), and Microsoft Security Essentials throughout the years, and personally, all are the same to me. Resource-wise, Avira and MSE are better than the other 2. However, do note that with ALL these programs(1 running at a time of course), I have never had a virus problem. Resource hogging isn't much of a problem for the modern- PC with quad cores and 8gb Ram. Therefore, you CAN stay safe with AVG, provided you practice safe computing habits. Of course, if you'd feel safer with a full-blown security suite, go ahead. But remember, no antivirus or security solution will give you a 100% guarantee, only you can ensure that. Cheers.
PS: Remember to always keep your Windows up to date. Sure, Windows might not be the most secure OS around, but you CAN stay safe with it, regardless of what Apple fan-boys say. =)

Every time you install a new antivirus program you must uninstall the previous one. Kaspersky is very slow and complicated to use. Try the new Microsoft Security Essentials 2 and combine it with malware blockers such as Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. http://bstdownload.com/reviews/microsoft-s...y-essentials-2/

QUOTE(akira de aimbuster @ Jun 10 2010, 05:23 PM) Experience. You can do a simple test, uninstall you avg, install another anti virus, and scan your pc, see how many virus you get. No need to go to that extreme. Just go to Panda ActiveScan page and you can do a quick scan. I seriously doubt you'll find anything though. AVG is said to have the least amount of false positives, which can be a good thing if you're into warez. My Avast would just keep screaming about things it shouldn't be concerned about, I had to silence it whenever I install something like Crysis Warhead. Also, those loud audio alerts, if you don't remember to turn them off, can jolt you from your seat at night. But these days I'm just too used to Avast to switch to another.

I have been using Avira Premium + Malwarebytes. It's good because it don't consume a lot of memory. Although people said that Avira caused a lot of false positive but it's one of the best free AV which detect almost most of the virus around. From my experienced, any virus that avira missed, malwarebytes will do the work and vise versa. For more information Here

Well, I use Microsoft Security Essentials for my gaming machine while for my mobile device such as my laptop and netbook, I use a full Internet Security suite such as Kaspersky's for full protection. Both does its job pretty well.

Normally I would recommend users who don't know much about computer to just get any all-in-one solutions i.e. Internet Securities for their ease.
As for myself and those a bit more tech savvy, I would go for ONE free AV, anti-malware scanner, and a firewall(not windows). That is pretty much a good rule of thumb to follow when it comes to surfing. Of course, one has to practise safe surfing given the security protection they have.

QUOTE(BlueWind @ Apr 22 2011, 12:13 PM) Normally I would recommend users who don't know much about computer to just get any all-in-one solutions i.e. Internet Securities for their ease. Yup, less hassle free to get an all-in-one solution since that one program basically handles everything. Can't agree more that the user also has to be responsible when surfing or conducting any online activities to ensure a safe browsing experience. No matter how good the anti-virus is, it still can't completely/always prevent viruses from invading your computer. Also be wary when opening downloaded files or unknown files from anywhere be it your thumbdrive since if you give your computer or anti-virus the green light to open the file, you are also opening the door for the virus.

Unfortunately those are the common source of getting infected. The general question that everybody has been asking for the best security protection system is not the way to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of malware.

Avast! 6 Free Antivirus features are just like an Internet Security just without the Firewall.. It has an auto-sandbox which is a + when an unknown program starts to run on your system.
