Hello everyone.I am new in overclocking.Today i tried to overclock my intel i3 530 2.9Ghz to 3.6Ghz

My settings r done through bios

Core i3-530 3,608 MHz
Multiplier 22x
Base Frequency 164 MHz
RAM 8x
RAM 1,312 MHz
QPI 32

Just want to ask sifus here whether my settings correct anot.I didnt change the voltage.I manage to boot into the windows and my pc is still running..but i am not sure whether it's safe anot since i am new to overclocking. Please help me out nod.gif

My settings r based on here :
Overclocking Intel i3

QUOTE
stress test it using application like prime95, OCCT, etc for few hours. i always run 24 hours to be sure

Oh,so it means i hav to open programs such as Prime95 for 24 hours and how do i know whether it has or doesnt has any problem?

And yea,is my settings okay?

Oh yea,1 more weird thing. After i've done the overclocking,i choose "Load optimized settings" in the bios to return back all the settings to the original. Then when i boot into the windows,it automatically tries to install the FLOPPY DISK DRIVE where as i dont even has a floppy disk drive =.=ll

Oh yea,i think somebody asked before, but i juz wan to make sure.

Can i overclocking my CPU without overclocking the Ram?I am juz using normal 2 Gb DDR3 1333Mhz Kingston ram

As for prime95,there r 3 modes.Which 1 should i use to stress test my rig?

Then how should i tune the memory frequency and voltage?Leave it by default?I have 2Gb DDR3 1333MHz Kingston ram

Erm i did the overclocking, here r the screenshots..please check for me whether it's done correctly smile.gif

The Vcore and memory voltage i set to default because i see it changes according to the CPU's work load..or should i set to 1.4V?And wat about QPI?I set it to auto too

user posted image

Memory frequency i set 8x to 1312Mhz...

Stress test using Prime95.But i did the stress test for an hour only because i noticed that the temperature is high..

user posted image

Can u check my temperature? It's high and i can feel the heat when i touched my casing. The temperature is around 85-87 Celcius for my cores during stress test.Is it normal?

Haha yea only CPU stock cooler.Don hav any extra fans XD

The Vcore i set to Auto.So i should set to 1.15V?

Vcore = CPU voltage
VTT = ?

And perhaps the temperature was so high because i was stress testing it? hmm.gif

1.3v seem like nothing.add more 0.5v and set clock at 3.8ghz.stock cooler for intel still can be done for this speed.

But for 3.6 Ghz my temperature is adi so high..i afraid if i overclock it to 3.8,the temperature will reach ever higher sad.gif

did u attach properly the cooler contact with heatsink?

another problem is stock intel not so easily to attach

70-80c pretty high in idle.but if fully loaded seem normal.

Try setting your Vcore to 1.2 V  sweat.gif  You dont need so high Vcore for 3.6ghz. For me, I'd suggest you to change your CPU cooler. Running at those temps isn't good for your processor in the long run.
*
It's fully loaded. The temperature is so high because i was stress testing it.100% work load. The temperature during idle is around 40-55 Celcius.I will try setting the Vcore to 1.2 V laugh.gif The reason it is 1.36V because i set the Vcore to auto XD.And i hav no idea how to change or properly attach the CPU cooler XD

This is the temperature when it's idle.

This is the temperature during stress test when i set the Vcore to 1.2V.I think it can be set lower....like 1.184V.And based on my current temperature,is it good if i OC it to 4.0Ghz?

Added on May 24, 2010, 3:41 amuser posted image

Set the Vcore to even lower...1.187V and stress test using Intel burn test.No error found. So is it stable adi?Btw,the 60 Celcius is after the stress test.During the stress test, the temperature was...89 Celcius maximum

u are setting ur vcore as 1.87v now?? after lower it down lol.... try set to 1.3 and stress test again with the same cpu speed, if its passed the test then set the vcore 1 step lower than 1.3v then redo it, to find the lowest vcore it can get with that speed smile.gif
*
Waaaa sorry sorry typing mistake!!It's 1.187V tongue.gif

Btw,it shows 1.187V in bios,but when i checked using Cpuz,it shows 1.2V

And it seems stable..though the temperature is a big high during stress test tongue.gif So if i continue OCing til 4Ghz with only CPU stock cooler..u think can ah?

Oh..ok i will try using a lower Vcore than 1.187V =D

Added on May 25, 2010, 6:26 pmEh,very weird..i set the Vcore lower until 1.181V in bios, but when i checked using Cpuz,it still shows 1.2V.Then i go as far as to lower the Vcore to 1.17V...the Cpuz still shows 1.2v.Weird
