Sony Shuttering Hungarian Hardware Plant

By : Erik Gruenwedel | Posted: 03 Jun 2010

Sony said it is shutting down a DVD/Blu-ray Disc player manufacturing facility in Gödöllö, Hungary and transferring its operations to another plant in Malaysia.

Sony Hungária Kft. is scheduled to cease operations by the end of December and its assets transferred to Sony’s manufacturing site in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sony EMCS Sdn.Bhd.).

Sony said the move, which is part of ongoing efforts to consolidate global operations and achieve better operating efficiencies with the projected market expansion of 3D-compatible Blu-ray players, would have no material impact on its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011.
