Just wanted to share that the multi-sim works on the iPad. I am not on the unlimited plan so will have to monitor the bill this 2 months to make sure all is well on the usage and billing part. If that is ok then I guess, can fully confirm everthing works. On the technical side for now definitely ok. Just be careful when cutting the sim as it is very tight cos the multi-sim is actually much bigger than normal sim.

You have to cut the simcard to micro size. That is what I did with my Hotlink prepaid 3G card. I went to Maxis thinking of getting the new micro but the price is not attractive. I don't mind paying RM58 for 500MB or Rm78 for 1.5GB monthly BUT on top of that I need to pay another RM30 for voice. As I will not be using any voice calls the RM30 is wasted furthermore no phones yet support micro sim. As I rarely used 3G temporary I use my old Hotlink 3G and cut it down to size - works perfectly

You can opt for multi-sim. Extra RM15 a month for each extra sim. The main sim is like normal. The second sim cannot receive calls or sms, otherwise it is the same as main sim. You have to cut down the sim but be careful cos the sim is bigger than normal, so very tight, but can be done. Now waiting for billing to see if both sim shares my RM58 500MB data plan. It is supposed to. Will report during next billing cycle. Will monitor for 2 billing cycles before I am satisfied.

For me, I'm using it without any form of screen protection. I'm totally cool with the 'oleophobic' screen although it does gets greasy. I do a microfibre wipe once in awhile and I'm totally ok with this. I've tried scratching on it and its totally fine. With my kind of usage (at home), it will be just fine. I've done the same with my Macbook and its all cool too.

For other people who are stuck on this line, we have to understand that some people wanted the iPAD so much they practically 'sacrificed' something for it. And to tell them they need a 100 bucks more may make them kill hehehe... We have to face it that such money for a piece of plastic may not ring their practicality bells. It does for you but may not for them. I on the other hand acknowledge the existence of such a product and their benefits. I just delay getting one at the moment because I don't need it now. Not because I don't want to protect my prized possession. You may not understand my decisions but others may not understand why RM100 cuts it. Right?

So if we are to tell them... if you can't afford this screen protector, maybe you shouldn't buy an iPAD may not be fair. Gadget is for everyone. Everyone deserves to own something nice in their life.

I prefer to use screen protector. This is what I am using:

It's not too bad. Same one being sold in the Mac shop in BSC (Mac Studio i think) for RM199. Asked if any discount, salesperson answered coldly "No discount". Got mine from eBay and I think the same seller as the link I posted.

The same one offered to me by MacStudio folks in Low Yat Plaza. When I showed them the comparison shots, together with the "palm-print evaporating" feats of the PowerSupport, they understand why I declined their offer and went with PowerSupport.

Pictorial comparison between the two is at the link, and in spoilered section below:-

There was not enough protection from the seal envelope box they mailed with.. but luckily it arrive safely..
a bit flatten but nothing a bit bending and pressure to the lid won't straighten out.

Hi, just wanted to find out if I can get a microSIM from Maxis, while still retaining the use/number for my current 3GS?

I read from that there is the ability to use up to 5 sim card using one number. Is this possible?

Since I'm getting my iPad with 3G, was wondering if I could use my existing data plan (Rm50 a month extra for 500MB of Data) for the iPad and the iPhone at the same time........

You can retain your number and convert to microSIM, but there is something called HLR which depends on your number. Nomral SIM has HLR 1 to 9 SIMs available. MicroSIM has only HLR 1 to 7 for now. So if your number is under HLR 1 to 7 you can convert but if 8 & 9 then you will have to pick a new number. You can identify your HLR by asking MAXIS or referring to the original card it came in. The number printed at the back will show a number in brackets. That is your HLR if I am not mistaken.

As for 1 number, multi SIM, you can use up to 5 SIMs, 1 primary and 4 secondary. As mentioned, it's rm15 per secondary SIM. Only primary SIM has incoming phone calls and sms. The rest only outgoing calls & sms. I have tested phone calls but not sms. All SIMs support data but each must have their own package, based on my testing; meaning no sharing, which totally sucks! Don't think they have the Unlimited special across all SIMs anymore, but I could be wrong. I tested on a rm58 plan for primary. Also secondary SIMs will be charged for Itemised Billing separately. You will be given new SIMs, which the back is green. The circuit bit (I think that's what you call the gold coloured part of your SIM) is larger than normal though can still be trimmed to fit an iPad's microSIM holder; just be careful as it is a tight fit. IMHO it's not worth it to use 1 number, multi SIM unless the mobile broadband can be shared across all SIMs. For rm15 better get a separate number and add Itemised Billing.

And lastly, there is no microSIM support for multi SIM, or vice versa, as they are both different types of SIM.

Tested the GPS earlier as well with Papago! m6.4. Not too bad. Still trying to get used to the interface. Also trying to figure it where to mount in the car. Besar dan berat!

FYI for those waiting to buy or still considering, seems there might be a shortage due to the screen:

The official product price should not increase but those selling grey market units might use this opportunity to increase prices, I think. However, it's just an FYI. Only time will tell if there will be a marked delay in production.

I think your address has to be in the US. I managed to download some free stuff, but had to change my settings to say I am from US and change to a US address, if I remember correctly sweat.gif

You need either a VPN service or IP anonymizer like HotspotShield to download/purchase ebooks from Kindle Store now. They've employed Geo IP restriction on purchases now. My Kindle 2 is collecting dust at the moment in wake of my iPad ownership.

In short, use VPN/Hotspotshield, log into your US Amazon account, purchase it there. Once purchased, Whispersync your iPad Kindle app to sync/download your new purchases.

So sad that they are making it harder and harder for non-US residents to buy stuff cry.gif
