QUOTE(celciuz @ May 25 2010, 10:42 AM) I removed the UV filter for this shot already, I took one shot with the UV filter and wow the flare was all over . So took it off but still has some flare. Multicoated? HMC series? I have 3 different filters on my lens, one is the single coat UV filter, one is the Hoya HMC (Haze Multi Coat) and last the Hoya HD (also multicoated). The normal Kenko UV is terrible when compared to the HMC or HD! The HMC is cheap and good, I use that on my 50mm, and the Hoya HD on my 70-200, the only advantage I see of the HD is that much easier to clean, does not smudge as much as the HMC. I also want to get an UWA! But don't feel like spending on a DX lens =(. Thanks bro for the compliment. not sure HMC series or not..but mine look like this one below..52mm.. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « btw..regarding lens.. can we use DX lense on FX body? thus the picture quality poor or not? future plan might want to own a full frame body.. thus buying non-DX lense will be advantage i think..isnt so?

QUOTE(celciuz @ May 25 2010, 11:01 AM) DX lens on FX body means it will auto crop the picture. The FX will change to its DX more, 5MP or 8MP only if not mistaken. The case looks different from my Hoya HMC, should be similar I guess. thanks for the explanation..need to learn more..

QUOTE(celciuz @ May 25 2010, 11:20 AM) You probably need to either HDR, or shoot 2 pics, and mask out the nicely exposed clouds. The dynamic range is just too high for DSLR's sensor to handle. can we use ND filter instead of trying HDR? ND filter seems gud for this kind like Vampyr3's picture..isn't? correct me if i'm wrong.. btw..saw a forumer sells now round shape ND filter (like uv filter one).. seems a good deal..

QUOTE(celciuz @ May 25 2010, 11:33 AM) I think for this condition, should be using a GND, graduated neutral density filter. More info here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduated_neu..._density_filter . ouh.. GND it is..thanks..dunno there are ND and GND..

QUOTE(kenji_britney @ May 25 2010, 11:37 AM) CPL filter would suit more for skies instead of ND. ND is just like a piece of darkening filter, you'll end up making the whole picture dark. with CPL at least you can make the skies stand out more. or maybe you can try a combination of CPL and ND is there any different usage of Circular and linear polarizer filter? sorry for another noob quest..

QUOTE(kenji_britney @ May 25 2010, 11:49 AM) haha i dunno about that but i haven't seen anywhere selling linear polarizer filter before, always see circular. ok2 ..but seeing picture sample in the net..i think GND is more preferable to capture the sky..i think so.. QUOTE(Vampyr3 @ May 25 2010, 11:59 AM) Oh wow.....all the photography terms are mind boggling   Need to read up more already......only filter i know for skies are CPL.....haha no need to worry.. as they mention.. i search thru uncle google.. i also learn few things this morning.. just own dslr few days ago.. Added on May 25, 2010, 11:08 amQUOTE(kenji_britney @ May 25 2010, 12:03 PM) normally GND filter is used to stop more light from going in to your camera. it's used especially during bright sunny days or say you want to take photos of water to look like silk on bright conditions but you can't set a slow shutter speed or else the photo will be overexposed. see..so for a beach view with blue sky on a sunny day can use GND? if the day is not bright enough then CPL would be gud then? need to practice more.. but getting some ideas regarding this matter..thanks!~ need to refer back DCIM few months ago i think they mentioned about filter.. QUOTE(Vampyr3 @ May 25 2010, 12:12 PM) Haha, yeh....gimme 5! I just got d5k bout 2 weeks ago.... I heard of a cheaper alternative using 'black cards' or something where you use the black card to cover the lens for parts of the composition that needs shorter exposure time........but that only applies for dawn/dusk/night photography i think....not sure whether it can be applied here Edited: guess not coz you'll need super fast hands for that technique since the exposure time for broad daylight is super short. yup..been followed this section for a quite time..saw someone in here..dunt remember who it is..do as u mention...by using the black card.. but ya..u're right.. sunny day is the best to use with filters.. QUOTE Edited: guess not coz you'll need super fast hands for that technique since the exposure time for broad daylight is super short. I guess using digital polarizer is the next best option for me then. Found this tutorial from one of the pinned up threads here. http://lukeroberts.deviantart.com/art/Digi...ariser-16253049nice one..thanks for sharing!~ QUOTE(kenji_britney @ May 25 2010, 12:29 PM) if you're superman then you can use 'black cards' on bright sunny day black card technique is used for night photography with long exposure if you don't want street lights or other light sources to flare so much, and also for fireworks photography, cover your lens when the moment the fireworks burst then remove to let the remnants of the fireworks to be captured in your lens. okey!~ learn something new.. black card for fireworks.. tqvm This post has been edited by oyama: May 25 2010, 11:41 AM

QUOTE(Vampyr3 @ May 31 2010, 01:10 PM) Waa, no need receipt?? Then they won't know the age of the item right? What if it's over the 1 year period and then i fill in the warranty card, can expect another year warranty? Haven't checked my warranty card yet but i think they didn't chop the purchase date or anything in there...... i think if ur warranty card is already chop of the purchased date by the shop..then it's ok..but if unfill, they want to confirm it by having look at the receipt.. the shop seller told me i must keep the receipt coz nikon center at PKNS would like to see the receipt if want to claim anything later on..

QUOTE(noor22710 @ May 31 2010, 02:37 PM) sorry to interrupt... I really new in dslr camera...tot want to buy D5000, but when I go to Low yatt, most of salesperson recommend canon (canon500D)... It make me really confuse...stll not understand what to do with built in motor (500D) and not built in motor (D5000). Please help me...I want to get it before my trip in July/ Aug...so that I can learn more to get beautiful picture.... How about the pic??which camera is more beautiful? coz I like to take candid camera with movement...afraid that my pic will be blur...Oh man...please help me... u can see roughly side to side comparison here..btw..the motor is for autofocus.. means d5000 need to mount with lens that got motor by itself or in a simpler word; a lens that got AF word on its lens body. AF lens usually pricey than non-AF. blur picture u can cater with VR(vibrate reduction) lens for nikon/IS(image stabilization) for canon.. imho, til/swivel screen in d5000 would pretty much does help for ur candid picture..coz candid sometime taken at unexpected angle..so tilt/swivel screen would be good feature. 500D got extra megapixels and got bigger LCD (3") for u to see ur shots more clearly. both camera would do pretty much same in result..so, it depends on how u're taking them..that's more important.

QUOTE(C.P.U @ May 31 2010, 03:11 PM) My opinion is the picture also slightly different.. As we normal can see Nikon color is much sharp and crispy compared to canon and canon color is much soft and look nice in portrait... btw..both canon/nikon colours are not a big deal though as it can be changed by PP..

QUOTE(noor22710 @ May 31 2010, 03:28 PM) tq guys... alot of info i get.. how about color pic when we transfer to pc...some of my friend said the color will be different...is it correct???which one is more beautiful??I tried for both camera at Low yatt, the pic look much beautiful for canon...nad the salesperson also told me, if I like to take outdoor pic, canon is much better...and they also told me, nikon D5000 built in flash is weak compare that canon 500D...and canon accessories much cheaper than nikon... color wont change if u transfer to pc from ur camera.. if u like to shoot in RAW, u can always change the color more flexible in Photoshop as for example. JPEG stil can but not as good as u change them in RAW.. not so sure bout colour in canon.. but if u like vivid colour, usually people would say nikon instead.. regarding built in flash not so sure which one weak or not..but nikon d5000 flash compensation rated at -3 to +1 EV..canon +- 2EV.. i guess +2 in canon 500D means stronger compare to nikon d5000..but in the end..most of dslr owner would look into external flash.. as per review in DCIM magazine few months ago..nikon ext flash seems much better compare to canon.. it's not what i say..canon-er, dunt flame me..i'm not a fenbui.. QUOTE(noor22710 @ Jun 1 2010, 09:49 AM) Salesgirl girl at Lowyatt told me...because snapshot (not sure "snapshot" is correct terms or not ) canon much faster compare than nikon.. that snapshot depend on ur shutter speed which dslr is good at.. if u want to change type of focus..can use center focus or point focus as well which both nikon and canon got that.

QUOTE(noobie1 @ Jun 1 2010, 09:56 AM) either she duno anything about dslr or she bluffing you... nikon can use till 1/4000 too(not sure izit the same as D3k),but that kind of fast will get you a dark picture.. and snapshot or not, you still need to adjust the shutter speed(in case using M mode), so it probably just the same as canon.. unless she said something like..."when ur baby see the word canon, then they will stop and let u capture" then i am speechless...lolx... in her case i think..they want to clear stock of 500D soon.. that's y keep urge her to buy 500D instead of d5000..that's my 2 cents..and give non-logical reasons..
