the resolution is 1920x180 so it is full HD... About gaming, personally i find it great. For example,in PES2010 the grass' colour looks more like real grass compared to my TN panel 943BWX.SO,generally speaking it's nice.Oh,one more thing that i have noticed [i don't game much these days],colour gradients in games are gone, like in dark scenes etc.IMO it also upscales 720p contents better,it doesn't look as crappy as with a TN panel LCD.
For movies and anime, the same can be said too.Colour gradients are gone.In Angel Beats,Yurippe's hair also looks more real eventhough it is violet as it doesn't look as 'plastic'.
You can try looking a few pages back,a forumer posted pictures of the Dell 2209WA,it uses E-IPS too.
Added on August 24, 2010, 11:27 pmcrap,i forgot to mention this. The U2311H has NO 1:1 pixel scaling,so games that is in 4:3 aspect ratio will be stretched. This mainly happens on old games like Warcraft 3 and the likes.

compared to LED-backlit 6bit TN Panel LCDs,yes since TN panels can't really churn out 16.7M colour as advertised. They use dithering to simulate 16.7M colours, that's why you'll see colour gradients on them. 8bit panels [some IPS and VA panels] on the other hand can really churn out 16.7M colours. This explanation isn't complete, but you can always wiki IPS to get a better understanding.
LED is just the backlight. It's not like each pixel is a LED [like AMOLED displays].

QUOTE(bugijun @ Aug 25 2010, 06:26 AM) ic..if i got the one with gradient meaning it is defective and can be return right?
thanks Depends.... Gradient caused by bad firmware from Dell can warrant a return or an exchange. For example the gradient defect on 2407wfp version A00... was simply too glaring. Gradient due to panel itself (being a cheaper panel/technology).... it's hard to warrant an exchange/return
