Massimo Moratti tried to blame motivation for the terrible performance of his side in the Coppa Italia final which saw Inter suffer a humiliating 6-2 defeat against Roma.

"Losing like this surely does not please us, for fifteen minutes we did not understand much. Maybe they had more motivations than us.

"I must say that this is the only low we have had this entire season. Now for the second leg we must believe; it is surely difficult, but in football miracles do happen."

The second leg is in program next week on the 17th of May at San Siro, with both teams expected to field their best players in order to lift the trophy. This is the third consecutive year that the Giallorossi and Nerazzurri are facing each other in the Coppa Italia final.

Materazzi received a yellow card in the first leg of the Coppa Italia final, in which Inter crashed to a 6-2 defeat against Roma and.

Due to accumulated bookings, he will be forced to sit out the return leg of the Final in San Siro this Thursday through suspension.

A bitter Materazzi declared that he regrets the ban. He also guarded off the criticism that followed after the unexpected 6-2 defeat.

"I am very sad that I will not be able to play," he said. "It has been my biggest regret right since the end of the first leg.

"But I believe the criticism towards us was probably too harsh, especially when you consider the pace we kept to win the Scudetto, that we deserved and secured easily, breaking every possible record."

"I think that sometimes it is right to respect those who have been professional to the end, including today," he concluded, referring to the super comeback against Lazio.

Crespo "El Vadanito" has been my idol since 6 years ago when he's at Parma...though he doesn't have enough pace to beat defenders, but his physical presence inside the penalty strikes fear among the top Serie A defenders...he always at the right place at the right time and able to make runs effectively to pull defenders away...no doubt, he'll be my idol forever!!!

Zanetti Not Ready To Give Up The Inter captain urged his team-mates to do their utmost in order to beat Roma with a four goal margin and win for the third consecutive year the Coppa Italia.

Few teams would have any hope of winning a cup final following a 2-6 defeat in the first leg, which would crush any hope of triumph.

"We know that the comeback will be difficult, but we must try, and only with a united group we can succeed.

Massimo Moratti has sent a mixed congratulatory message to local rivals AC Milan for winning the Champions League

"I saw the match and I want to compliment Milan for their win," said Moratti. "However, I must admit that Liverpool played better in the match itself and the Rossoneri were a bit lucky

"But they also showed the determination needed in such an important match, which then ended as they had planned."

There has been much said about whether Inter's Scudetto or Milan Champions League has been the better of achievement.

Things threatened to boil over last night when banners mocking Inter's achievement appeared (briefly) during Milan's open-bus tour of the city.

"I have nothing to really say about the incident; these things are just part of the game," he said.

That, of course, is the diplomatic version. Many in the Inter camp are very upset, and Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has apologized for the gaffe.

"As soon as I was told about it I immediately had it removed," he said.

The note in question states that "after the agreement reached on 4 January 2007, the club Al-Ittihad have not respected their duties, that were agreed upon in the signed documents, and since it was a unilateral violation, it cannot be compensated".

The Portuguese star should present a formal complaint against Al-Ittihad at the FIFA player commission, adding that he has not made any agreement or signed any contract with another club.

Figo had already been doubtful when asked whether he was 100% sure of leaving Inter.

If the deal with the Arabian club should fall through, the Milanese club would welcome him back with open arms.

Negotiations with Chelsea had been going on for a week now, but at the end of it, Crespo and Inter seem to have been given what they wanted.

Reports from Italy are suggesting that Chelsea sent the Nerazzurri a fax on Tuesday evening, in which they authorized Crespo's loan to the Italian champions for another season.

It is his final year of contract, meaning that he will be a free agent to sign on with Inter once his loan spell ends next summer.

The Nerazzurri already have plans in place for that, and have agreed to sign him on a two year deal, as was confirmed by the Argentine's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, this afternoon.

"We reached an agreement with Inter. It will be a one-year loan, followed by a two year contract," he revealed.

"We are happy, this is what we wanted."

While no financial details have been revealed, it is believed that no money was involved in Inter securing the loan deal (what is effectively a transfer).

There was a lot of speculation on Friday that the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri were ready to swap their two strikers.

Alberto Gilardino's agent wanted to rebuff the claims which were attributed to his client on Friday, when reports in Italy were suggesting that the World Cup winning striker had offered himself to Inter.

Apparently, Milan had accepted this transfer, asking in return Adriano, but later on in the evening the Rossoneri categorically denied that this had actually occurred by issuing a press statement.

In this press statement, Milan quoted Beppe Bonetti, Gilardino's agent, that his client had never offered himself to Inter and reassured Adriano Galliani and Milan that Gilardino's wishes were to remain with the Rossoneri.

Gilardino has been linked to Juventus in the past few weeks after a difficult season with the Rossoneri, and the possible return of Andriy Shevchenko and the promise of a world class purchase by Silvio Berlusconi could see him opt for a different solution since he will go down the pecking order.

"He receives exactly the same same treatment as we do, that's all."
