Samuel spitting appeal rejected

Walter Samuel will miss the first three Serie A games of the season after his ban for spitting at Pavel Nedved was confirmed.

The Inter defender was caught on camera during last week's Italian Supercup victory over Juventus at the Stadio Delle Alpi, but always maintained he had been spitting at the ground.

Nedved himself admitted that he did not realise anything had happened at the time, but the Disciplinary Commission has rejected Samuel's appeal.

Treviso is definitely not Serie A ready... they shouldn't be there actually ! They only grant the entry after Torino n Genoa were denied.

Zanetti sidelined for 40 days

Internazionale will be forced to do without captain Javier Zanetti for over a month because of injury.

The Argentine picked up a thigh problem in the 3-0 win over Treviso and tests have revealed he'll be sidelined for at least 40 days.

There were already fears on Sunday evening that Zanetti's injury was a relatively serious one.

"We are concerned because Zanetti is not the kind of player who stops if he doesn't have to," stated boss Roberto Mancini.

Lazio rejected Inter's Zauri bid

Lazio turned down a £2.2m offer from Internazionale for versatile Italian international Luciano Zauri.

The full-back, who can also play in midfield, was targeted probably as a result of the injury sustained by Javier Zanetti.

"(Inter owner Massimo) Moratti offered me £2.2m for Zauri," revealed Biancocelesti chief Claudio Lotito on Thursday.

Inter failed in their attempt to land Zauri, as they did in bids for Parma's Daniele Bonera and David Jemmali of Bordeaux.

Palermo 3 - 2 Inter

Corini 20 (P), Terlizzi 50 (P), Makinwa 67 (P), Cruz 85, 94 (I)

Inter's Indian Summer seems to be over after a humiliating and thoroughly deserved 3-2 defeat in Sicily. The scoreline was very flattering to the Nerazzurri, as Palermo rattled the woodwork twice and brought a series of incredible saves out of goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

Adriano was the danger man, fresh from scoring two hat-tricks in the space of 10 days against Treviso and Chile, but it was Palermo who had the best start.

Within the first three minutes Andrea Caracciolo had called Julio Cesar into a point-blank reaction save and Marco Materazzi dived in to prevent Bonanni turning in the loose ball from six yards.

How did Veron get sent off? Was it a deserving red card??

As a Man Utd fan, i'm glad to see Veron doing well in Inter...bar the sending off...

he was shown the 2nd yellow card for the match for taking a freekick too quickly. Sounds like a harsh decision to me.

Inter lose 'other' Zanetti to injury

Cristiano Zanetti has joined Inter teammate Javier Zanetti on the sidelines for the next four weeks with a thigh strain.

The Italian international limped off during the 1-0 win at Chievo on Wednesday evening and tests have confirmed a muscular strain to his left thigh.

This is a blow for the Nerazzurri, who have already lost captain Javier Zanetti for eight weeks with a muscular problem.

Toldo tantrum rocks Inter

Francesco Toldo has aimed furious accusations at Inter of "prejudice" against him and looks set for a January departure.

"I would've made a different decision in the summer if I'd known I wouldn't be playing," slammed the goalkeeper.

"I have been told that I am on the bench due to a tactical decision, but I get the feeling there is prejudice against me in this club. Last season I won the Coppa Italia as first choice and have kept this side afloat for years, but now I cannot prove my worth."

The former Fiorentina shot-stopper was already pushed on to the sidelines last term by Alberto Fontana and Fabian Carini, but is now firmly second choice behind Brazilian Julio Cesar. It will inevitably freeze him out of the 2006 World Cup squad and he isn't hiding his bitterness.

Palermo Option For Toldo

Inter and Palermo are working out a swap deal involving their keepers, reports Italian daily 'Il Corriere dello Sport'.

There is no apparent solution to the Francesco Toldo row at Inter, now that Mancini made it clear that Julio Cesar is his first choice keeper.

Palermo chairman Zamparini, who is a good friend of his Inter colleague Massimo Moratti, told reporters yesterday that he would be more than interested in brining Told to Sicily if the former Inter number one would be ready to lower his salary.

If Toldo accepts Zamparini's request, then Palermo will offload Matteo Guardalben to Inter, a keeper that would be more than happy to sit on Inter's bench and watch Julio Cesar play...

Inter prepare Salgado bid

Inter are now in pole position to sign Michel Salgado from Real Madrid, according to reports in Italy.

The Spaniard was being heavily linked with a January move to Juventus, but the Nerazzurri are the new favourites to land the defender.

Zanetti close to comeback

Javier Zanetti could be back in action for Inter sooner than expected as he continues his speedy recovery from injury.

The Argentine international was set to be sidelined for up to three months after sustaining a thigh strain in Week 1.

However, the right-back has been making extraordinary progress since picking up the injury against Treviso on August 28.
