Serie A: Juventus 1-1 Inter
Sunday, 04 November 2007 22:43:50

TURIN - Mauro German Camoranesi cancelled out Julio Cruz' opener to ensure Juventus a share of the points in Sunday's derby d'Italia against Inter.

Cruz fired Inter ahead before half time and Mancini's had plenty of chances to increase their lead before Camoranesi came off the bench to hit a deflected equaliser with thirteen minutes left to play.

The draw leaves Inter two points clear of Fiorentina at the top of the table ahead of next Sunday's visit of Lazio - the last league fixture before the November international break.

Inter survived a scare in the 24th minute of a fast and furious first half when Julio Cesar got down well at the near post to parry Del Piero's inswinging left-wing free kick.

Cruz broke the deadlock four minutes before the interval, chesting down a Cesar pass and beating the offside trap before firing past Buffon from just inside the area.

The Nerazzurri could have gone into the break with a two-nil lead but Chiellini made a last-gasp block from Ibrahimovic.

Rocchi disallowed Inter a second for offside on 58 minutes when Cambiasso stole in to prod home after Buffon parried Chivu's free kick.

The Juventus keeper then made two saves in quick succession from Ibrahimovic as the Nerazzurri piled on the pressure.

Ranieri's men searched frantically for a leveller and went close through Trezeguet whose header from Iaquinta's pass forced a tipped save from Julio Cesar.

Mancini threw on Suazo for Cruz and the Honduran had three good chances in as many minutes but was twice denied by Buffon and once by Chiellini.

Juve's reward came in the closing stages when substitute Camoranesi's shot from inside the box took a wicked deflection off Samuel, giving Julio Cesar no chance of making a save.

Nedved apologises to Figo

Monday 5 November, 2007

Inter's Luis Figo is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but Pavel Nedved has apologised for the challenge that caused his injury.

The Portuguese star limped off with a serious calf injury and is awaiting an operation tomorrow.

Nerazzurri President Massimo Moratti was angry at the Czech winger's tackle.

"He didn't get injured by himself," he raged. "It was a very nasty and avoidable foul."

To prevent any further ill feeling, Nedved has made a full apology to Figo and hopes that the incident is now closed.

"It was completely accidental and I was trying to get the ball," the ex-Lazio man insisted.

"I'm really sorry that this happened. It didn't mean to hurt Luis and I have already cleared things up with him. I hope he returns as soon as possible."

Inter are facing a midfield shortage with Patrick Vieira, Dejan Stankovic and Luis Jimenez already out of action.

Figo could be out until the New Year if the results of his scan are as expected.

Mancini: "We must take our chances"

Tuesday, 06 November 2007 16:52:04

user posted image

MILAN - More of Roberto Mancini's Inter v CSKA Moscow news conference:

Mancini: have you tried anything in training to help your players be more precise in front of goal?
"This is part of the history of football. It isn't something that just happened to us on Sunday. It has always happened. When you're dominating a game and have several chances to kill it off you can always concede a goal, even if it's undeserved. But this happens to everyone. We create a lot of moves and we must be more aggressive when we can, because tiredness can creep in."

Will the team's attitude change due to the absences in midfield?
"No. My probable team for tomorrow has played on other occasions since the start of the championship, so our attitude will be the same."

What do you think about the fact that no public order officials were there to welcome the Inter bus on its arrival at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin. Has too little been said about this matter?
"I don't think we should say too much about it. We had a few eggs and a few omelettes thrown at us, but it was nothing serious."

There was a very offensive banner against Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the stadium. Do you think the same things that you said after a sector of the Stadio Meazza was disqualified following Inter v Napoli?
"I honestly didn't read it and I don't know what was written. But what I think hasn't changed."

Adriano trained today, unlike yesterday...

"He wasn't well yesterday, he had problems. But he was here today."

Given the size of the squad, could any players leave Inter?
(Smiles) "Five minutes ago we were talking about buying players, now we're talking about selling some... Jokes aside, this also depends on the players who might have fewer chances to play. Some might ask to leave if they don't have chances to play, but in this respect nothing's happening at the moment."

So if Adriano asked to be sold...
"I wasn't talking about Adriano at all. I was referring to Jimenez, for example, who hasn't had many chances so far. However, I hope he will now have the chances he deserves so he can show his value. I hope he can be useful."

You and Inter have done everything for Adriano. Maybe he doesn't like the environment at Inter?
"I don't think so. In the last interview he gave, he said he gets on really well here. Do I think he's in form? No, I don't, otherwise he would be playing. Like all the others he has to lead the life of an athlete and train every day. I have absolutely nothing against him. Would a change of scene do him good? I don't know. I hope that one day he can understand what he needs to do and that he tries to do it here because he has been here for many years and has shown what he can do."

Champions League: Inter 4-2 CSKA Moscow

Wednesday, 07 November 2007 22:43:36

MILAN - Inter came from behind to beat CSKA Moscow 4-2 in a pulsating Champions League clash at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Ibrahimovic and Cambiasso grabbed first-half replies to Jo and Vagner, and both Interisti scored again after the restart to keep the Nerazzurri on top of Group G with two games to play.

Fighting for their Champions League survival, a lively CSKA side took the lead on 23 minutes when Jo collected a Vagner Love pass just outside the box and fired left-footed past Julio Cesar.

The visitors doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Vagner Love rifled home after outwitting Dacourt and Cordoba in the box.

Inter's reaction was as swift as it was devastating. Within sixty seconds of Vagner Love's strike Ibrahimovic hooked home his 12th Champions League goal from Chivu's deep right-wing cross.

Two minutes later Cambiasso slid home Maicon's through ball to level the match.

The Nerazzurri could have gone into the break with a 3-2 lead but Zanetti missed from close range after being put through by Cambiasso.

Mancini's team ran rings around the Russians in the second half and edged in front on 67 minutes when Cambiasso lashed home Cruz' sneaky backheeled assist from Solari's left-wing corner.

Several misses later, Ibrahimovic produced a wonder goal out of nothing on 75 minutes. The super Swede won the ball in the CSKA third, picked his spot and send a crisp 25-strike into the top corner to stun the visitors.

Substitute David Suazo was denied a deserved fifth goal by Grigoriev in the closing stages.

Moratti: "Fantastic goal by Ibra"
Wednesday, 07 November 2007 23:50:25

MILAN - Massimo Moratti commented on Inter's thrilling comeback against CSKA Moscow. He said: "They had two very good strikers who created problems for our team but then all of Inter's solidity shone through - the confidence of the players and the team's constant determination.

"Whether you support Inter or CSKA, it was a nice game this evening. We are closer to qualifying for the round of sixteen but there are always difficulties in every game and we saw that this evening. The team is working well and this is certainly the merit of the coach.

"Ibra scored a fantastic, wonderful goal. You could see he was going to score when he controlled the ball. He is always very determined when he plays, it's important for his team-mates to have someone who can do things like that out of nothing."

Mancini: "Tough match tomorrow"
Saturday, 10 November 2007 15:41:31

APPIANO GENTILE - Roberto Mancini answered questions from the press after Saturday's training session and ahead of tomorrow's Serie A match against Lazio (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at 15:00):

Mancini, the Lazio game brings to an end an important series of matches for Inter...
"It's the last game before the break and it's important to play well and win to stay in front, but it will be a very tough match and we will have to do very well because it's the last match of an important series and there could be a bit of tiredness."

Apart from the injuries, is there anything about Inter's start to the season that you would change?
"No, nothing. Apart from the hope of having a few injuries less, everything else is going quite well."

Adriano isn't on your team sheet for the Lazio match. Is he still not in top condition?
"Things don't change in two days."

Have you read the interview that Adriano gave to a Brazilian media?

"I said that things can't change in two days. I won't reply to any more questions about this matter."

How is Hernan Crespo?

"He seemed to be doing better but it would be a risk to play him because he's not in great shape. In the end we had to take him off our list of players called up because playing him would have been a risk."

Will he still reply to the national team call-up?

"I don't know, we will see. He'll come here tonight and he'll be with us tomorrow, but he's likely to leave (for South America) because he has been called up. It will be up to him whether he plays or not. I don't think there would have been any problems if the Lazio match had been in two days' time, but it's tomorrow so it's a bit risky. I don't think he'll be running any kind of risk with the national team because their first World Cup qualifying match is a week from now, and he'll be in much better shape than he is now."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he was a bit tired after the game against CSKA. Has the Swede recovered?

"There have been a lot of matches close together. A bit of tiredness is normal."

What memories do you have of your times at Lazio?

"They were seven extraordinary years. Rome is a beautiful city and life there is very good. I have an excellent memory because I was there in what were perhaps Lazio's best seven years. This however, means nothing in terms of tomorrow's match. We will try to win but they have come back strong after their Champions League victory over Werder Bremen, so this makes it even harder."

What kind of match are you expecting tomorrow?

"They're playing well, it will be a hard game. Like us, they have had injury problems. They have always played well under Delio Rossi, and they have some good players like Ledesma, Rocchi and Behrami, for example. And the new ones they have brought in are doing very well."

Serie A: Fiorentina 0-2 Inter
Sunday, 02 December 2007 17:13:53

FLORENCE - Serie A leaders and defending champions Inter beat Fiorentina 2-0 at the Franchi to maintain intact their three-point lead over Roma.

Luis Jimenez and Julio Cruz scored in the first half of a match that was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli's wife Manuela, who died last week.

Jimenez, who scored his first competitive goal for the Nerazzurri against Fenerbahçe in midweek, opened the scoring in the tenth minute. Fed by Ibrahimovic, the Chilean midfielder hit an angled shot past Sebastian Frey.

The Viola produced a strong reaction and could have equalised through Pazzini whose flicked header from Mutu's cross was hooked clear by Chivu. Julio Cesar then made a tipped save from Pazzini as Fiorentina kept up the pressure.

Inter went close to a second just before the half-hour mark when Ibrahimovic collected a Jimenez pass and unleashed a low right-foot shot from the edge of the area, forcing Frey into a tipped save. Minutes later the French keeper blocked Maxwell's thunderbolt shot from a tight angle.

Cruz increased the Nerazzurri's lead on the stroke of half time, running on to Ibrahimovic's magnificent through ball before sidefooting his seventh league goal of the season past Frey.

Fiorentina produced the first clear chance of the second half on 54 minutes, ex-Inter striker Vieri hitting wide with just Julio Cesar to beat after collecting Liverani's ball over the defence.

At the other end Ibrahimovic had three chances in quick succession, crashing against the post before seeing his follow-up shot blocked by Frey and blazing his third effort over the bar.

Ibrahimovic went close again in the 59th, testing Frey with a cracking volley from Maicon's headed pass.

Marco Materazzi came on for Jimenez in the closing stages to make his 200th competitive outing for the Nerazzurri.

In added time Julio Cesar saved Semioli's close-range header with his foot to deny Fiorentina a lifeline.

Fiorentina 0-2 Inter (HT: 0-2)

Scorers: Jimenez 10, Cruz 45.
