hi everyone! i am planning to apply for a job in Spore. however, i am stuck in the cover letter part. should i mention specifically that i'm a Malaysian? or just let them see that in my resume? also, what should be the expected salary for a local civil engineering graduate with master degree but zero experience? if they ask to state my expected salary, should i just give them or be vague, as advised by some online job application guide? do employers appreciate self-taught skills more or training certs?

thanks in advance!!

1. No need to mention your location unless you believe being Malaysian is advantageous
2. Malaysia master degree graduate with no experience - SGD 3.5k (better than bachelor fresh grads)
3. In general, there is no need to mention exact salary expectation unless it is a low-end job or company is small
4. Experience is more valuable than anything.  Since you do not have experience, show your initiatives and attitude.

Hmm towards the question 1), if is fine not to mention the location however, during the call interview, they will ask your current location. That would be an issue as once they knew that your are in Msia, they might be reluctant to ask you to come to SG for the interview, depending on which location you are in Msia. Most of them are fine with ppl who are located in Johor as they are nearer than other states.

Don't need to think so much, just apply and if the company wants you they will let you know. I secured a job thru just a phone interview once, even tho the HR told me if I passed phone interview I would still need to go down for f2f. Sometimes it's about luck, and meeting the right interviewer with authority to go against established company policy if they find you to be a suitable candidate.
Thanks for all your replies!! Actually, I'm staying in JB. Sorry I forgot to mention that tongue.gif I am just afraid they might not want Malaysians cos of hassle to get job permit?

I guess I think too much rclxub.gif Anyway, thanks for all your advice and encouragement! I will just try first! Hope to come back here with good news... tongue.gif
