I'm currently applying design engineer jobs in singapore. Can anyone tell me the salary range for a mech engineer (degree) with 2 years exp? I tried google it but this bit of information proved to be hard to find. Need assistance from forumers here to know the situation on the ground.

I prefer to have some figure in my mind before I go for interview as it will help me when I'm negotiating for a better renumeration package.

Thanks in advance! Beers on me if I am successful. smile.gif

How good are you at autocad and are you familiar with the autocad derivative software called safenet?
*
Very familiar with it. In fact, I did a lot of 3D fabrication drawings for my previous employer using Autodesk Inventor and Solidworks.

Totally not familiar with safenet. However, I do have extensive knowledge in stress analysis softwares such as Ansys 12.

My particular software isnt stress analysis but corrosion mapping and thickness gauging software for corrosion risk assessment. Coz i know a company headhunting for people who know how to use this software out of the box.
*
My previous job scope covers mainly structural designs for cranes and hydraulic systems. Thus my exposure to corrosion mapping was very limited. However, that sounds kinda interesting and I will read more on it when I'm free.

What industry is the company you mentioned coming from? Kinda curious about it.

I will be joining you guys soon. Managed to secure an engineering job this monday and had my EP application approved by today. I am currently waiting for the collection of my EP. Work starts on 1st November...which means I need to look for a room real soon.

Since I will be working in Tuas area, it is ideal for me to get an accommodation around Boon Lay/Jurong East area. Any advice that you guys can offer when it comes to renting a HDB room in singapore? What are the pitfalls that I should watch out for? I tried google info on that but hardly get anything useful.

ermz... how long do i need to wait to get the work permit from MOM??
*
I got my EP approved on the same day of application through EP Online. However, I was required to do medical checkups, document verifications and fingerprinting before the MOM will fully endorse my EP.

IMO, once you have received your IPA letter (In-Principle Approval), your chance of getting EP is more or less assured. From this point onwards, you'll only fail if you have a bad medical report or your documents are found to be bogus.

Check with your employer whether they use EP Online. I heard most applications will be processed within 7 days. I was lucky to have my application approved within a day.

P.S. My employer applied EP for me on the 30th of September this year. So yea....my experience is fairly recent.

You'll only required to do the medical checkup after receiving your IPA letter.

juz got my bachelor... appling for engineer position... fresh graduate with no working experience... salary below 2k... and not a big company... any idea??
*
Is the company applying S-Pass for you? Judging from the salary given to you, you won't be eligible for an employment pass. The lowest employment pass (Q1) has a minimum salary of S$2.5K.

I believe you're quite underpaid coz my experience is quite similar to yours and I got enough to qualify for a Q1 pass. FYI, I'm a mechanical engineer (Bachelor degree with honours) of about 1 1/2 years experience.

P.S- Please tighten up your facebook's privacy settings. Some petty employers that I know do check on that.

Good luck with your appeal! I hope your pass will be approved soon.

You might sometimes accidentally divulge information that you do not want your employer to know in your profile. That can be your employment history, work gossips and etc. You can read more about it here. I strongly suggest you limit the public's access right to your profile.

I used agent to find a room coz I kinda lazy to do the paperwork lol.

you budget is quite tight. I suggest you either raise the budget or stay a bit further away from mrt stations to cut the cost down.

@kl87

Only the rental contract.
If you want something that is within that budget range while still being close to mrt station, you should consider room sharing. Just be sure the roommate is someone you can live with.

i have been hearing many EP rejected cases recently. It seems like gov is seriously tightening control over the influx of ppl like us. Anyone working in HR can shed light on this?

I was lucky for mine to be approved last month.

Just landed myself in Sg yesterday. Currently looking for a job. I've graduated double major in Finance & Marketing with Distinction. Any1 here able to assist me? Btw which are the recommended recruitment agency here? *fresh grad btw
*
Me and most of us here did the opposite by landing ourselves a job first before settling down at sg. Make sure you have adequate support (relative staying in sg as an example) during your job hunting period. Otherwise, you are going to create a really big hole in your pocket.

For a start, try jobsdb.com.sg. I find that job site pretty good.

They are plenty of job ads that do not specify nationality requirements. Those are the kind of job ads that are worth your time applying for. If the company is expecting to open the position for Singaporean and SPR only, the chance of you being called for interview will be exceeding low unless your qualification is a perfect fit for the position advertised.

My advise is to keep trying. Also, don't mass sending your resumes but rather customize it to suit the employer's needs. I found my job that way. Good hunting!
