QUOTE(Aloong @ Jun 11 2010, 11:05 AM)
I actually i do agree that riding bike is relatively more dangerous than cars and mrt, in logical sense.  In chinese saying, "steel cover skin" is safer than skin cover steel".

Over the years, I had some friends and classmates who "wood cover skin / cloth cover skin" due to traffic accidents. All were motorbike related, with the exception of one or two spectacular cases in cars.

As for non-fatal accidents... I dare say 50-75% of all the bikers I know/known have had some sort of accident which resulted in bleeding at least. Broken bones are also common. Those unsightly abrasion scars on the elbows/forearms and legs are almost like a membership badge. A few ladies I know have never worn shorts or short skirts in the last 20 years... thanks to incidents while riding a motorbike to school in their secondary school uniforms.

where got sibeh song, last week manager keep shoot e-mail regarding non-work related activity. but on friday, i say the TM surfing facebook there and when i pass by, he quickly minimize it. dam beh song him. know *** people but sendiri cannot tahan. how to be manager like that. vmad.gif
*
That's exactly what a manager-subordinate relationship is. He gets to tell you what to do but you don't get to do the same. He gets privileges, rewards and exceptions that you don't. They get better offices, more salary and benefits (obviously), first tibs of anything new, fly business while you fly economy, stay in better hotels or rooms when they travel, hiigher per diems, higher travel & entertainment budgets etc.

If the manager has to follow the same rules and be subject to the same conditions as his subordinates, then where's the motivation to get yourself promoted?

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Jun 13 2010, 03:00 PM)
Nearly all people with manager status are hypocrites of the higher order. Most managers like to follow the phrase "do as i say, not what i do" mantra.

Spoken like a true career underling. Confusing the role of a manager with that of a parent or moral role model.

Even in the most "lead by example" organisations like the army, where captains and generals have to possess the hierarchical and moral authority to send men into combat - the leaders still do not have to work under the same circumstances as their subordinates.

huh?..y mobile broadband?..i wish to download and play game at home sometime..if mobile which 1 should i go for?..

Oh... gaming eh? Mobile BB might not be good enough for that if you don't go for the premium packages.

Fixed line BB... dunno? I only have Starhub Maxonline under the pay per use scheme. Never used the normal monthly subscription service, nor Singtel fixed line BB.

Oh ya... why mobile BB?

Because I can be online outside the house, or when those iPad beaters running on Android or Windows 7 show up later this year, I can use the simcard with that.

yup ... but the speed, performance and pricing difference is like heaven and earth. TMNet only know how to squeeze the locals.

Streamyx has an issue with trying to go 'nationwide' without perfecting Klang Valley or the big towns first.

And also most of the phone lines were installed 30-40 years ago. TM might have new exchanges, but the final mile cabling is way too old. And they don't want to invest in recabling, unlike the telcos in Singapore. Can't blame them entirely though, as the consumers don't want to pay for it either.

Which mobile broadband is better? I'm considering to get a mobile broadband 2Mbps..monthly roughly S$20+..think M1 is cheapest among all, with 2-yrs contract..

I'm currently using Singtel BBOM at lowest speed and cheapest package. Costs me $15.47 per month when I recontracted last year. Speed is supposed to be the slowest but I still use up my 50GB data limit each month.

Your lowest speed is roughly ard? 1Mbps? Is it 2-yrs contract as well? I'm still deciding on Singtel or M1 too..hehe..Is d connection stable?

Either 1 or 2. When I started 2 contracts ago, it was 384kbps, but the speed's been automatically upgraded a couple of times since then.

Anyway, I find the speed rating fairly meaningless for surfing, youtube and normal use. There's not much difference between the lowest bbom and the highest cable bb. It's only when you do gaming or downloading when you see a difference. Even then,.. the high theoretical speed might not be much use if the data source is slower, for eg. torrents or direct dl sites.

I think depends on location, I'm using starhub, thetering from my mobile phone package, sometimes can't even load google!!

You might be right.

I'm using the Starhub iphone plan as well on an E72 with HSUPA enabled. With tethering, I can't get torrent beyond 20-30kb/s and direct downloads are about the same.

free ... actually very simple, just type 'pp stream world cup' in google and you'll see the website

I did. I clicked on a few links on ustream.tv but either a blank screen or a frozen frame. So, I thought maybe it was a pay site.

if i can see this screen..is it mean my room tv connection is starhub ready?

Yup. You can just go to any Starhub shop, open an account and buy a cable modem or rent a set top box - take it home, hook it up and you're online and/or have cable tv. Make sure they don't charge you the installation fee.

WTA, has anyone given up their Malaysian credit card(s) due to the RM50 govt tax?

If so, do you know which Singaporean credit card that has the lowest effective foreign currency transaction fee?

Most cards will entail a total of 2.5% forex transaction fee (1% taken by Visa or Mastercard, plus another 1.5% admin fee by the bank). On top of the bank, the forex rates charged aren't that hot either.

Cheapest plain vanilla I found is Maybank at 1% + 1.25%.

CIMB pretty good as they have a 1% rebate on all spend from zero... so it ends up 1% + 1.5% - 1%.

Std Chartered's Manhattan card has a tiered rebate program up to 5% but the top tier is only if you charge $3K a month to the card.

Otherwise, it'll be a Malaysian debit card for me.

Am still using my HSBC Amanah caused with the 0.5% cash rebate I get, it is more than the RM50 govt tax.

Wow, you have to spend RM10,000 a year to get RM50 in rebates @0.5%.

better get UOB one card then... spend $900 3 months consecutively, get $90 back (or spend $300 for 3 mths to get $30 back)... but only these 2 tiers available.

best rebate program so far unless u spend much much more than $900 a month.
*
Hey thanks. This is good. Yeah, I spend about $300 per month easily here and back in Malaysia. The $30 rebate per quarter is about 3.33% effective... if I stop at $300. Should be enough to offset the forex charges.

I think I'll go with this instead of getting a debit card or something in Malaysia.

hi sean..is it really that easy?..they dont need to activate it at some exchange point or what? can open account then staright plug and play?

All access points originally installed by Starhub are activated. The signal is always there. That's why you can straightaway connect your TV to the Starhub point and watch Channel 5, 8, U, RTM1 etc. I just bought the $88 cable modem at the Starhub shop when I signed up for the prepaid Maxonline. Took it home, plugged it in, switched on the computer and the credit card payment screen was there.

Singapore lah. Malaysia one won't help you avoid paying RM50 per year.

The real fun starts when you bring that money back home and use there ^^

The real real fun starts when you earn S$15-20K a month. You can save S$10-12K a month and buy a Kancil each time you go home for a monthly visit.
