Just an update, I just managed to got a good rent deal. I am renting whole unit 3+1 at $1500 at same block. Best things is I don't need to move so far, I am just moving next 2 units! Haha
*
thats great!

btw, wheres ur district? at $1500, u r not sharing with anyone? i thought HDB not allowed to rent out the whole unit if follow rules?

I don't think that is a fair comparison. When u earn in SG you spend in SG. Rental is expensive, cost of living is rising. When people say that dollar to dollar  food in SG is cheaper than M'sia you must understand the key word here is "cheaper". If you are earning SGD 2,000.00 you have to live a spartan life here. If you earn RM 6,000 in M'sia, you can liver pretty comfortably even though the exchange rate will ultimately make the person earning SGD 2000 more than the person earning RM 6,000.00
*
conversion rate is SGD 1 = MYR 2.3x only not 3 leh how come SGD2k become RM6k?

but to be fair, u cant compare SGD2k with SGD4.6k also coz different responsibilities/qualification/experience liao

so lets compare SGD 2k vs RM 2k for a fresh grad;

In msia,
- stay with parents no need pay rent = 0
- car installment for RM50k car = RM500
- petrol = RM300 (10/day)
- food = RM450 (15/day food court)
- phone bill = RM100
TOTAL = RM1350
gross savings = RM650 (before tax & EPF)

In SG,
- rent room = SGD550
- ez-link = SGD100 (3.3/day)
- food = SGD300 (10/day food court)
- phone bill = SGD50
TOTAL = SGD1000
gross savings = SGD1000 (before tax & EPF)

disclaimer: lifestyle could b diff from person to person, use this as a reference only. For my 'cheap' lifestyle, only $350 difference in savings/mth, but staying comfortably at home... got family, friends and can drive around.

the conversion only works till u decide to move back to Msia and bring back your savings (provided there is) of course you can buy things dollar to dollar cheaper in SG, but how often do you buy a TV, fridge, laptop or things like that.

when salary increases, but not much expenses increased, I can save more in SG but then, property prices are out of reach. I think a long term plan would be to invest prty back in Msia; buy a nice house ... then can retire comfortably with the retirement fund converted from SGD plus work till 62yrs old. brows.gif

haha.. in Starbucks SG .. there's no lepak kind of feeling.. as maybe someone behind would be staring at you while u chit chatting away waiting for your seat. ..
so sien ..

it's no longer a nice hangout place to sit long long..
*
go to the libraries - AMK, Bishan or National library all got free Wifi... there nice n quiet place to lepak all u want, nobody cares how long u sit

I got something to share, since some of u ask about buses for KL-SG

1st time i took a bus down to SG since i work here (for 1 mth) n i gotta say its quite satisfying! RM60, Five Stars coach, depart from 1 Utama (next to aeroline) n reached woodlands about 5hrs (incl. immigration), only stop once (2.5hrs) for 10mins

very efficient n comfortable, quiet as well. No meal provided, (only give 1 gardenia roll + 1 pack peanuts + 1 500ml mineral water), jz pack your own sandwich or something la....

Added on August 30, 2010, 1:48 pmargh, my M1 prepaid dont work in China, i realized it when i WAS ALREADY there, what luck man!

jz when i did found its so affordable to use prepaid in SG, of all countries they dont hav prepaid roaming support in china!!! sheesh, Im thinking of switching to postpaid, n get my gf supplement line, $25.xx + $12.xx /mth n i get a free phone - is that worth it? seldom call but at least call between us is free, i might travel quite a bit (50%).

pls advise

Not everybody is so fortunate im afraid.

I've met my fair share of landlords which aptly fit the description of the "typical" singaporean. They remind me of scrooge mcduck.

There was this fat landlord who wanted to rent a room out of the three bedroom apartment and the landlord slept in the living room coz that persons excuse is that the rental money is her income. and like most typical landlords, you can only use the washin machine once a week, lights out at 11pm and if you have a pc, you have to goto the nearby mcdonalds to leech their electicity supply since she wont tolerate you sucking up the PUB bill, even though its "supposed" to be inclusive of rental.

I heard gay landlords arent that bad if they dont hit on you.

im really worried when the time comes i hav to look for a room after 1 yr.....coz im actually renting a room from my company's rented HDB unit n other rooms are reserved for visiting staffs, but most of the time, nobody is around so i get to use the whole unit all by myself so there are no rules....

This morning went to M1 Paragon to port over my Singtel line to M1, I queue for 1 hour, then they told me, no passport cannot proceed, then i travelled back to Bishan, take my passport, went to M1 Paragon again, they told me, your Spass expiring in 2 months, need employer letter stating that they going to renew your Spass, I got angry so i shouted at them, told them i travelled here 2 times these morning, then they said : okok u bring us the lettter tomorrow, we proceed first. After that, they told me, for Spass, the Iphone4 price is not $210 as per stated in brochure, is $363, seriously *%#)%#@. I was extremely pissed off I took everything and left. Seriously M1 is so....f**ked up.
*
its not u only, i've reached the pt of almost yelling at 2x M1 CS staffs....coz they cant even get their facts right, simply jz tell me wat they 'think' is the fact..

I wanted to convert my superpac to postpaid plan, so i went there but they ask for pssport, i was like wtf? i jz subscribed my superpac 1 mth ago, plus i hav EP n Msian IC? cannot ah, must hav pssport - ok fine...... then ask the fxxker how much, "i think u gotta pay $4x.xx for sim card, conversion n registration" wtf??? i rem only need to pay $21.xx total conversion fee (coz ask b4 when signup for superpac), he sommore got balls to say yes, until i tell him to check properly 1st then come tell me

after that, he checked and/or masturbated i dunno (coz i waited >15mins) then he come out n say yeah its only $21.xx......sorry

i really felt like tearing his face edi.......but still gotta go back n take mrt again next day jz to signup with pssport.....ok lor, nvm, then u guess, next day a diff person serve me, same problem again.....luckily this time is a gal, if not i hav yelled edi

I think m1 should really retrain their staffs.

spacegoat,
i feel you man..
the other day i was opening a dbs account, and the lady told me i have to bring my passport, as include my employment pass, i was like, my passport number is there, my photo is there, my details is there.. and i thought i could use it as an ID, i question her back that, means in proper identification, i will need to provide 2 form of valid id if i got stop by a police? and does singaporean carry 2 form of id when they go out also?
she just kept her mouth shut.
i went back got my passport, went to another dbs branch to setup my account.
*
i think its jz full of bullshit......or purposely make life diff for us msians........^&$%^#$*&%!!! really stupid 1, after i subscribed my postpaid with M1, same thing they ask for pssport when i wanna get a broadband.......

u say, how stupid is that system? rclxub.gif they say they scare my pssport expire wor, even after they hav made copies of my pssport previously n all my details, plus i jz signed up for post paid few days ago...... my pssport expire in few days? MAJOR WTF!!!

Can try pasir Ris Park, I always bring my kids there for cycle. Changi Park also not bad but the really low landing plane is a bit too loud for my kids.
*
thks for recommending, might consider.

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Sep 7 2010, 07:54 PM)
Since people usually use their IC or work pass to sign up, why the requirement of a passport when a foreigner who is working in singapore would be given a work pass as his/her identification card to replace the passport.
*
thats exactly my frustration too, if sg government can issue work pass, i dont see y a mobile company requires passport, coz work pass has all the details in it edi, plus its a local document, even more reliable than foreign passport as identification right? when i activate ez-reload, the transit link office accepted work pass n not passport....

haih, dunno wats in their head....
