Hi Everyone - hope everyone is well. I read with interest the thread in this blog. My mum needs a second opinion on her cataract operation. We were recommended Datin Dr Teoh Su Lin, someone said she is 'the best'. Has anyone been her patient or know someone who has been? She does have a lot of experience but her name has not been mentioned at all in this thread. Good experience or bad experience with her? Would appreciate some comments. Thanks so much. Trudy.

Datin dr teoh in SJMC? She will scold the patient if he or she doesnt follow her instruction to take care of the eyes. Overall, she is good but always packed with patients and must wait a long long time during follow up.

If your mum has both cataract and retinal problem, then see dr Ula in SJMC because he is the retinal specialist who does cataract surgery also.

Anyone here knows how much is the cost for VISTA's No-Blade Cataract Surgery? Per eye maybe?

Almost all cataract surgeries are bladeless nowadays unless complicated case only which is very rare. Phacoemulsification.

What is the average cost for a phacoemulsification without insurance?
*
cheapest around RM 2500 for 1 eye, normal single vision lens for far vision.

Just wondering does if there's a possibility of cataract re-occuring after the surgery?
*
One of the most common cataract surgery complications is a posterior capsule opacity (also called posterior capsule opacification or PCO). Its not a real cataract but vision is worse if it develops, can be treated.

Range from 4-7k if monofocal iol.

If multifocal iol then more than 10k each eye.

need to wait 3-4 months?

No need, u can remove the second eye cataract once the first eye recovered from the surgery.

I am in the same situation and currently doing research. No insurance so have to really look around. I hope anyone who has gone for the Cataract Removal Surgery in Kuala Lumpur / Selangor with private specialist can provide me some information.

1) What is the recommended hospital or hospital you used for this surgery?

2) How much did the surgery cost per eye?

So far I found Optimax and Vista to be pricey at abt RM6-7k per eye (bladeless) and not allowed to choose a preferred surgeon unless you opt for a premium priced package. ISEC itself got bad reviews here and in a 2nd thread.

hi, oasis eye specialist centre in nexus bangsar south is doing RM 3400 one eye for self paying patient, cataract phaco operation with monofocal lens implant.

If you interested, can pm me name and hp, i will pass to the eye specialist nurse to call u. I recommend Dr Mano who previously in Pantai Bangsar, he sets up the oasis eye centre.

Now because of covid alot doing promotion can get as low as 2.7-2.8k per eye. some need to do covid screening before surgery, some will just follow internal S.O.P, better add in those extra cost for calculation. But i think now is it is very comment surgery . Any differnt with phaco or Femto lazer assisted ?

femto phaco is faster and much lesser complication than normal phaco, but costly, if u have medical insurance then its covered by insurance. femto phaco is available in ara damansara medical centre.

Hi Jialat,
I had my right eye cataract surgery 6 weeks ago. Implanted PanOptix Multifocal Lens. But Im having hard time seeing near and intermediate as the words are always “glowing” and I cant even read fine print...Im seeing double/glowing/shadow.

Background:
1. My Optician asked me to consult an eye doctor as she is having hard time giving me the right prescription as Im not  seeing things as clear as my left and every 3 months my power increases (Since beginning 2020)
2. Went to eye specialist and they told me both eye had cataract.
3. My IOL reading was done by a person sitting at a receptionist counter (Guess the PIC went for lunch?) and set appt for surgery 1 week later.
4. Submitted pre approval for GL request.
5. Went for second opinion. They confirmed I do have cataract and dry eyes.
6. On the day of surgery I wasn’t well, body aching (Neck and shoulder), but the doctor proceeded with surgery. (No sedation given, and I was having panic and anxiety till the end)
7. One month post ops: Results Distance +1.00, Astig +1.25, Add power +1.00 (Before Distance -5.25, Astig -0.25)

My question:
1. Did they implanted wrong IOL power?

2. Panoptix lens is not suitable for me? I can’t see properly..I cant work on my computer using my operated eye.

3. Lasik will help fixing my current issue?

4. Do you have any recommendations where to go for my left eye cataract?
*
hi, i afraid nothing much surgically can be done for your right eye, many suffer from multifocal IOL implant too and the remaining eye they will go for a good monofocal IOL implant to at least keep the distance vision clear and be able to walk and drive safe with one eye. most of them experience the same glaring and blur near vision like you do. Lasik can't help them too/

please private message me so I can refer you to another eye specialist for his opinion on the right eye problem and to do your left cataract surgery.

All the best and take care.
