Anyone here is a fan of Maurice Lacroix?
I own the Pontos Rectangulaire Chronographe and i really like it... beautiful watch... retails for rm11800 after discount i think around 8k... I'm a fan of rubber strap watches. Previously owned a Tag Heuer Carrera but sold it coz too many fakes around...
Now I like the Baume & Mercier Riviera XXL Chrono in black PVD and Gold... another rubber strapped watch that catches my interest.
My dream watch will be a Zenith El Primero Chrono but i might only afford it in another 30 years or so... :haha:

I always view a fine timepiece as a reflection of my current standing career wise.
You won't see a CEO wearing a casio or swatch do you?
Of course there are also overkill when a kopitiam boss or mamak boss sports a Rolex.
I am honestly not a big fan of Rolex. I view them as a security item that the owner can let go when in financial difficulty. Watches that i love and feel comfortable wearing is the utmost importance.
I have a Hamilton Navy Frogman automatic chronograph powered by a "modified" valjoux 7750, costs me 3k. My maurice lacroix is also powered by such a "modified" valjoux 7750. Ppl dun understand why 2 watches using the same movement can be different in cost.
There's more premium brands out there using a "modified" valjoux 7750 that cost in the noth of 50k... go figure.
I got a lot of slack frm watch afficionados telling me to keep the 8k+ i spent for my maurice lacroix and get one with an in house caliber. More value they say.
But this is just my opinion, get the watch that you feel connected with in terms of design and feel. No use buying a watch sporting an in house movement with multiple complications but it's sitting nicely on a tabletop watch winder. Get my point?
Can read this if you guys a free.... i find it interesting.

U can afford a Zenith EP on grey its only ~7.5K, U pay so much for pontos already.
U mean the Zenith El Primero Retrotimer 2010 Model? That's the one i am actually aiming at the moment.
Last time I used to drool over their Defy Extreme line but it's juz too much... blush.gif

Yes, this is the local grey dealer with good reputation. Don't judge the book by the cover  biggrin.gif
Other forummer dealt before and I've meet the owner personally.

Some of his watches on sale seems like a good deal...
Lemme contact him with a few questions and see how it goes. Thanks bro... thumbup.gif

totally legit, I saw a few post here and there all gave seller great reviews.

U are not going to find a Defy, they discontinued the collection. I own a Defy but its not a EP. a deal breaker for me is EP isn't hacking.

this zenith your style? no many ppl like it (I certainly don't). That zenith that ck77 posted alot of Zenith fans on WUS love the style, classic and timeless.
most impt manual! Full view of the sweet EP, unlike a auto 50% covered up after spending so much no sure how many would like to flip them.

I dunno man, i have this thing for watches with rubber strap.
My Hamilton Navy Frogman is rubber strap, the previous Tag Heuer Carrera is rubber strap, even the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Rectangulaire that I am wearing now is.... you guessed it... rubber strap.
Maybe because leather stinks when mixed with sweat. Yeah, I sweat alot... dunno why... and steel bracelet tend to get dirty with "daki" if you get what i mean... shakehead.gif
Anyway, i just contacted zeetan on the Zenith Grande Class Open Chronograph with the white dial RUBBER STRAP...
I know I am abit crazy but if a watch comes with leather strap or steel bracelet, I tend to not pay attention to it.
Even when I go to watch shop, I ask them if they have any wathes with rubber strap, then i look frm there... how crazy is that? rclxub.gif Well, it's just me...
And... based on my current standard, any watch that costs more than 25k will be overkill... either they will say I wear fake or I broke my own budget buying it... So, it's better to stick to my budget...

hanz079, your are not crazy, for each they own  smile.gif
But am sure there is plenty of after market rubber straps to match with whatever watch that doesn't come with one.
*
Crazy hor? blink.gif
Anyway, there's another criteria I need to consider when buying anything... wathes, clothes... is that I am married with 2 kids... and I have this rule with my wife that I call a 75-25 split...
Meaning if I indulge in something, my wife can do the same at 25% of what I spend.
Example...
When I bought my Hamilton at 3000, she bought a Cyma watch for 800 (more or less 25%)
When I bought my Pontos at 8000, she requested a Mido ladies automatic watch at 2200. (again more or less 25%)
IF i were to buy the Zenith Grande Class Open Chronograph currently listed at USD4590 = around MYR14500, my wife has the RIGHT to require a watch that costs around MYR4000... now tell me am I in deep shit or what sweat.gif

I think you have a sweet deal bro.... cause right now my wife's watch cost 3x more then mine, her wallet cost 4x more then mine, etc etc... u get the drift..
*
Of course you have to take into consideration things that she can buy but i can't.... like handbags and cosmetics.... those costs a bomb you know? cry.gif
But i get you, wives are a tough breed to please... vmad.gif
Back to the issue of watches.
There seems to be quite some positive feedback on the Zenith El Primero HW Chronograph.
I have never owned a manual wound watch before and might jump in... price looks reasonable for an EP...
Anyone here owned one? The steel bracelet is the only thing bothering me right now though...
Damn, now it's really feels like i overpaid for my Pontos... laugh.gif
Should have lingered in these forums more... I always buy frm shops direct.
Maybe I will give Zeetan a try... he replied to my mail pretty fast.

Not owning EP yet but it is a classic and reliable movement, even the older Daytona is using EP caliber.
I do have the manual wound Speedy Moonwatch with Lemania 1861, quite enjoy the winding though.  biggrin.gif
And yes, I do find your Pontos is overpaid  sweat.gif

Haiyah, dat time just got my bonus... Go look see look see and then suddenly... long story short, half impulse buy lah. But thank god i still love the watch... well, we have to pay for our own education sometimes yah? blush.gif

No worries bro, as long as you enjoying the watch  thumbup.gif
Time to get yourself an EP now and change to rubber strap  biggrin.gif
*
I was wondering how and where can you actually change to rubber strap? Coz all the aftermarket rubber straps i see are low quality...
I wonder if Zenith sells rubber straps that fit their models?

well, is it coming from your own pocket? or her own paycheck?
Zenith do carry rubber straps but they are mostly for defy model and some elite models.
U just have to make sure they fit the lug size of the watch.

Frm my own pocket lor... haih... married life is tough.

U should be happy, capable making enough $$ for her to spend and for U to spend on big ticket items!

Hey Patryn,
I juz go ahead and bought the Zenith EP Chrono HW that you recommended... Pending delivery though.
At first I saw it, I was like... lame...
But I spent the whole night looking thru pics and reviews and comments and the look start to grow on me.
Classic look, nothing to shout about but I might still be able leave it for my son if I took good care of it.
And the price is damn tempting... and no offence but really cheap for an EP... icon_rolleyes.gif
I always though EPs were out of my league... went to the shop and have a look, all above 35k not yet discounted... but the starting price did freak me out.
I did not know about Zenith having entry level EPs.
Shows you guys juz how uneducated about watches I am.
A friend of mine dropped by my office and saw me finalizing the deal with Zeetan and he was like blink.gif
That price for an EP? He almost threw a hissy fit coz now he feels he's overpaid on his Oris Divers Watch, the same I felt about my Pontos... laugh.gif
We both bought our watches at AD... this is my 1st time thru GD... hopefully all will go well.
Will update u guys and post some pics. brows.gif

Can't you COD with Zeetan?

Can't bro, I am from Kota Kinabalu.
That's why I look for recommendations on which online dealer is legit.
Thanks to everyone. rclxms.gif

Thanks for sharing your views.
How about Seiko? Is Seiko better than those mentioned by you?

I personally think seiko is good.
They make watches ranging frm cheap to almost rolex like price.
I am intrigued by the spring drive line of watches.
