lol thanks for the suggestion, nice watches~ but are u sure it's under 1.2k? for me i just browse thongsia.com.my for stated reference price in ringgit. By the way i don't really care about the origin or the brand of the watch. i just concern about the quality of the watch that's tough enough to last for a long time. that's why sapphire glass is a plus for me. I really can't stand those scratches on my watch's glass even it's still work perfectly.  shakehead.gif
And yeah, the reason for choosing non-battery-exchange-required-watch is because i heard that it's not good to open the cover behind the watch frequently or else it may affect the stuff inside and shorten the lifespan of the watch. is it right?  blink.gif
*
U don't ever open the back of the watches, leave it for the professional.
with mechanical dust may get it and cause issue; water damage easy to fix just send it in to get oil and clean.
with quartz/kinetic not really an issue but if U don't put it back right water can get in and cause issue which may result in replacing the entire circuit.

if it those Seiko Kinetic the capacitor/battery last for ~10yrs b4 U need to change.
for those pure automatic U need get it oil and clean every 5yrs.

they are all Sapphire.

Seiko SNA481 Sportura Men Chronograph ~ 1k
SEIKO PREMIER MULTIFUNCTION SAPPHIRE RETROGRADE SRL021 ~900.
Seiko Premier Chrono Alarm Perpetual SPC051 ~1.2k
SEIKO SPC007P1 VELATURA ALARM CHRONOGRAPH ~1.3k
http://www.uhr.info/products/en/Chronograp...HR/UHR-284.html Oops that I am wrong! it is ~1.6k
http://www.watchseller.com/volovwinmidf.html ~1.2K
http://www.watchseller.com/eposwatches.html cheapest starts at 900 (big sale now else cheapest is 2.7k)

swiss quartz
http://www.christopherward.co.uk/sale/prev...en/nnc4skk.html ~700

Jap - Orient
http://www.orientwatchusa.com/watches.html many within your budget.

wow... i just realize... highwind85, from what i know is people buy more than one watches to keep for value, eg Rolex. but 2 Seiko, one G-shock, one Orient? May i ask how u use these watches? wear according to mood? or use different watch during different location? no offence ya... =)
*
ppl buy more than 1 watch for many reason. not really for value.
not all Rolex hold their value well.

ppl can choose to wear 2 watches.
or change every so often. weekly. daily hourly etc!

well, mechanic swiss watches generally cost more.
a ETA 2824 cost ~US$120 while a quartz chrono may just cost US$50 or less!
then again, it only cost RM$10-30 to change a battery every 3yrs. for a Seiko kinetic changing a capacitor requires more work and may cost U ~100.
servicing a mechanical generally takes place every 5yrs, not sure how much it cost in locally but I think a private watchmaker maybe ~100-200.

if U thinking of getting a watch U can wear a long time. I would think go for something classical.
like a pilot watch. they don't get outdated, this style goes all the back to WW2!!

hmm... actually i prefer something that's classic... (but not old school lar... )
found one model during my research... here is it...
it's really the most beautiful watch i ever see.  drool.gif
Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph Automatic Watch, costs around RM20k!  notworthy.gif
*
at ~1K U looking at something like the timewalker design?

montblanc timewalker series are over priced imho.

retail at ~20k, alot of ppl getting ~25-30% off. the Black Ceramic just move the price north by a good 8k.
http://www.authenticwatches.com/montblanc-...YEk+index.html+
user posted image

or pay alittle less can get this
http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/movadobaby_2136_577797781
or
http://www.authenticwatches.com/omega-spee...3539-50-00.html

for alot less same movement family as the Timewalker can get this!
http://www.authenticwatches.com/longines-s...-l27054236.html
user posted image

with ~20k rm better get this! with 20K I expect in house movement not just a ETA 7750.
user posted image

want ceramic on watch get this, on same 7750 but price is ~8k retail
http://www.authenticwatches.com/longines-c...-l36614067.html

with that $$ can get 2 neat Damasko on Silicon escapement. can go for 10yr interval servicing, regular ETA is every 5yrs.
the technology used in building case also make it very resistant to scratch.

Need some help. I'm thinking of getting either of the following:

1. Tag Heuer Aquaracer Automatic 500M Calibre 5 (43mm)

2. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (45.5mm)

Any idea on price range for each? Anyone knows of any websites selling pre-owned? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
*
1. retails ~7.5K, discount ~25%
2. retails ~12K, discount ~10-20% iirc

local pre own site or overseas?

hey patryn33,

mind to share wif mewat's ur opinion on bvlgari watches?

seems like no1 discussed them before.. r they catogorized as overpriced designer brand watches?
*
higher end Bvlgari are not overpriced. iirc they used inhouse movement.

lower end Bvlgari watches I like their iconic Diagono. grey only cost ~US$1.6k its expensive but still a tad cheaper than Montblanc. brand conscious ones may hold bvlgari higher than montblanc.

chrono version still cheaper than the Timewalker posted earlier!

U gotta call you bank that there is an international transaction of $X. else bank may have block it.
your contact info with CW must match your CC billing info else they may reject it.
I find the easiest way is to pay with paypal. I am in States and they did reject my CC 2X!

Glashuette? Ranges form USD 8k to 50k++, not exactly in the "affordable" range. Good thing is you can get it locally, think its under swatch group as last time I went to service my Longines they carry glashuette there...
1st thing 1st... click on the DARN LINK!!! its nomos Glashuette, not Glashuette original or A Lange and Sohn.

for nomos its affordable. I own 1, the new Nomos Ludwig Datum.
the link here on pics
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry38982486

Swatch group carries Glashütte Original and Union Glashütte. Union Glashütte is affordable they made the movement in Germany, design is ETA. price range more US$2K to US$10K.

9500 for a Ball after 25%, expensive. that price I think can get a IWC.

hi guys, have anyone ever seen this brand before?

http://www.glashuette.com/index.php?id=289&L=1

It's german made. the dial pretty much look like stowa for me. and they make their own movement.

wonder how much the price range?
*
it is no stowa. the fit ad finish is better than a Stowa. if places have no stock, wait on order is similar to Stowa.

cheapest start from ~US$1060 or RM3250

Anyone here is a fan of Maurice Lacroix?
I own the Pontos Rectangulaire Chronographe and i really like it... beautiful watch... retails for rm11800 after discount i think around 8k... I'm a fan of rubber strap watches. Previously owned a Tag Heuer Carrera but sold it coz too many fakes around...
Now I like the Baume & Mercier Riviera XXL Chrono in black PVD and Gold... another rubber strapped watch that catches my interest.
My dream watch will be a Zenith El Primero Chrono but i might only afford it in another 30 years or so... :haha:
*
U can afford a Zenith EP on grey its only ~7.5K, U pay so much for pontos already.

QUOTE(xuzen @ Jan 10 2011, 04:53 PM)
After reading the guidelines/advises, now I see no reason to buy expensive watches/timepiece anymore. My beat-up nokia (old model) can tell time as accurate as the RM 70K patek.

don't buy, no one making u to buy.
it like clothes or shoes, a cheapo would work why get a bally? nike? Lacoste etc.
it also goes with food, don't have to spend the extra on shark fin, bird nest, abalone, caviar, truffle since regular stuff would do too.
U must be the type that do without with all these

I always view a fine timepiece as a reflection of my current standing career wise.
You won't see a CEO wearing a casio or swatch do you?
Of course there are also overkill when a kopitiam boss or mamak boss sports a Rolex.
I am honestly not a big fan of Rolex. I view them as a security item that the owner can let go when in financial difficulty. Watches that i love and feel comfortable wearing is the utmost importance.
I have a Hamilton Navy Frogman automatic chronograph powered by a "modified" valjoux 7750, costs me 3k. My maurice lacroix is also powered by such a "modified" valjoux 7750. Ppl dun understand why 2 watches using the same movement can be different in cost.
There's more premium brands out there using a "modified" valjoux 7750 that cost in the noth of 50k... go figure.
I got a lot of slack frm watch afficionados telling me to keep the 8k+ i spent for my maurice lacroix and get one with an in house caliber. More value they say.
But this is just my opinion, get the watch that you feel connected with in terms of design and feel. No use buying a watch sporting an in house movement with multiple complications but it's sitting nicely on a tabletop watch winder. Get my point?
Can read this if you guys a free.... i find it interesting.

alot of Kopitian Boss in Sg wears a Rolex. even Hawker there wears Rolex.

nice link too bad on one comment on it, maybe no one gives a hoot.

In fact no use buying anything if U are not going to use it. why is watch single out? we could go to the shoes/clothes/car thread and do the same thing! better yet those collect action feature, they don't play with it. Value may not go up? why collected?

I see all of you have shopped there before? Any feedback?

totally legit, I saw a few post here and there all gave seller great reviews.

U are not going to find a Defy, they discontinued the collection. I own a Defy but its not a EP. a deal breaker for me is EP isn't hacking.

this zenith your style? no many ppl like it (I certainly don't). That zenith that ck77 posted alot of Zenith fans on WUS love the style, classic and timeless.
most impt manual! Full view of the sweet EP, unlike a auto 50% covered up after spending so much no sure how many would like to flip them.

Anyway, there's another criteria I need to consider when buying anything... wathes, clothes... is that I am married with 2 kids... and I have this rule with my wife that I call a 75-25 split...
Meaning if I indulge in something, my wife can do the same at 25% of what I spend.
Example...
When I bought my Hamilton at 3000, she bought a Cyma watch for 800 (more or less 25%)
When I bought my Pontos at 8000, she requested a Mido ladies automatic watch at 2200. (again more or less 25%)
IF i were to buy the Zenith Grande Class Open Chronograph currently listed at USD4590 = around MYR14500, my wife has the RIGHT to require a watch that costs around MYR4000... now tell me am I in deep shit or what sweat.gif
*
well, is it coming from your own pocket? or her own paycheck?
Zenith do carry rubber straps but they are mostly for defy model and some elite models.
U just have to make sure they fit the lug size of the watch.
