patryn suggested Stowa and Archimede...

i also suggest Steinhart.......

google for watchuseek forum and visit the Steinhart forum...not too bad...
also, someone from MAlaysian watch forum just brought a Steinhart....since you show 2 models with white dials,  you may like it too...
http://www.malaysiawatchforum.com/index.ph...pic,1564.0.html
*
yes Steinhart, maybe debaufre etc.
basically post 1 page 1 would have a complete list of suggestion.

bearbear good luck finding the right watch!

Both using the same movement (Unitas 6498)

Stowa - 870 Euro
Steinhart - 370 Euro

that's 500 Euro difference hmm.gif
*
the workmanship on Stowa is nicely done with a swan neck regulator.
its not easy to find 6498 on swan neck regulator at a good price, those tourby watches on same movement on swan neck cost over EUR$1.1K.
I was hunting for a swiss pocket watch movement with a swan neck regulator too at 1 pt, but I have yet to find anything lower than US$500.

from what I gather Steinhart most likely is using Standard grade. Stowa typically uses Elabore grade but they regulate it again to their specs.
Stowa is 1 of the few companies that disassemble the movement for inspection, maybe its redundant to do so. The extra labor adds cost.

bernhart watch maybe 1 of the cheapest watches with a Unitas 6497, but movement isn't decorated

when I 1st saw I still think more than 500.
some ppl think in a different way. I did met 1 ppl who thinks thats lesser sign.

QUOTE(fongzai92 @ Sep 25 2010, 11:53 AM)
after did some reading and research in this thread, found that those japan brand like alba, casio and seiko not really good watch but instead of low end watch. yawn.gif my budget is >500.
*
anyway with a budget of 500 RM if don't want Japan brands as they are not really good. U think 500 alot of money to get good watch?
seiko mind you makes GREAT watches. in fact their Grand Seiko maybe better than Rolex!
even Tag Heuer use a Seiko movement design to make their 1887 movement.
Casio make solid quartz watches, can take more shock than those Ball watches.

Should Casio be included in top Japanese watchmakers in addition to Seiko, Citizen and Orient?
*
FYI Orient today is part of Seiko group.
Seiko group sales figure is the smallest among the big 3.

Another thing, I'm planning to get myself a nicer watch, would like to ask advice from u sifus, is the Bonia Tesoro watch worth buying at rm1.5k?
*
not heard of Bonia Tesoro. Fashion brand I presume. Did a quick google on it no idea where its made in.
for rm1.5K I wouldn't go for a fashion house brand other than Cartier/Chanel/Bvlgari/Chopard/Montblanc
go to page 1 post 1, U can find lots of watches in the range of 1.5k

Thanks. So.. do u think i shud get guess watch? or can i get better watch with that kind of price? around 300-500?
*
get a Seiko or Orient or Citizen, sure its not fashionable like Guess.
with Guess U are paying for the brand, and the watch is made in China.
I am not saying all chinese products are bad, they work and you can tell time on those watches esp they are quartz.
i have to say they do last until it goes out of fashion.

+1 to Monte Carlo chrono. But my only consent is the servicing issue on piggy back chrono.
*
servicing would cost more.
then its just a 2892 plus a module, for that price not cheap.
it like getting 1 of those jean richard older chrono at a third of the cost.

indeed i was expecting something more than just the common brand.. but with limited budget... really doubt i can afford a
- stowa antea
- maurice lacroix

any recommendations for the above brand with  budget 1k-2k ?
*
you can afford a nice Stowa Antea with your budget.
2000RM is ~USD$630 or ~EUR$460

A Stowa Antea only cost ~US$430 add shipping thats still under US$500
http://www.german-watches.com/cgi-bin/lsho...&gesamt_zeilen=

U can try a Guinand too, at EUR$495 (that includes German VAT), you don't pay german VAT of 16% thats EUR$416+ add shipping it would still be in your budget.
they do not have a rich history like Stowa but they do have some. They build Sinn at 1 pt and may have even made Bell and Ross too.
http://guinand-watch.com/index.php?option=...=179&Itemid=416

good value but little to no history.
-STEINHART "Aviation GMT automatic"
http://www.steinhartwatches.de/index.php?i...r=256&Sel_ID=25
-D. Freemont, this is at US$500 and all watches are timed just prior to shipping a copy of the actual computer setting is included.
http://www.dfreemontwatches.com/new_yorker.htm
sometimes they do list stuff on ebay too.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=280571500400

ML i don't think with your budget can find anything, not even quartz iirc.

Hey guys, what is the discount range like for Tag Heuer and Rolex in KL? Which shop usually has a better offer - Hour Glass or Wata Time?
Rolex datejust ladies iirc its ~15%
Tag Heuer its ~25%

discounts are controlled, attempt to pay cash and get the sales person to give you a better discount.

One more suggestion is Seiko JDM, which is not commonly found locally.
*
Seiko Japan Domestic Model.. hmm.. those entry level ones are at his budget
http://www.seiyajapan.com/category/3_seiko_quartz_etc_/

those Seiko JDM featuring 6R24 are pretty expensive.
