retail on steel us$2500
http://www.princetonwatches.com/shop/650.10.12M.asp

fortis I thought ~25-30%. do update us on your finding.
*
checked with a local store....yes, discount definitely > 30%.... selling for abt USD2150, but after discount, only USD1400..

but the best discount was this! i missed it...http://www.jwwatch.com/showpro.asp?cat=90

more than 60% for some models....missed it...looks like some clearance happening for Fortis!

Thanks sifu ck77 and patryn...

am in dilemma....Sinn is cheaper by USD 100 but the discount by Fortis is massive...almost 50%....

so value for money in terms of price...Fortis

value for money in terms of name/technology...Sinn..

Panerai...i love the design.....simple and attractive...
but Sly and Arnie made them too expensive for me.... sad.gif

Oops.. I didn't put much research into Sinn Tech for that watch..
lets take a 2nd look.

Fortis B-42 Diver Gmt Series Men's Watch 650.10.12M
- ETA 2893-2
- 44mm brushed stainless steel case
- Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides
- Brushed stainless steel bracelet with fold-over deployment clasp with safety latch
- Water / pressure resistant to 200 meters (20 ATM)
- Screwdown see thru case back (mineral Glass)

Sinn 857 UTC Tegimented on Strap
- ETA 2893-2
- 43mm Tegimented case
- Solid case back
- Antimagnetic: 80,000 A/m
- Water / pressure resistant to 200 meters (20 ATM)
- sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides.

I have to say given the specs. Fortis is over charging, its not really value for money.
Sinn 857 would be value for money for US$100 cheaper u are getting Antimagnetic and Tegimented case.

what is the Ball GMT model? any specs? U looking at GMT now? giving up on Pwr Res?
*
thanks bro..

1. after survey, the Power Res models i like are mostly beyond my budget..so thought of saving longer and get a one a really like

2. yeah, thought GMT will be useful. but not really a major criteria. handphone got Worldmate software, so quite useful there...the Ball is yet to release. Its only found in Bal's official Facebook website. Its called engineer Hydrocarbon magnate GMT....

3. thanks...yeah, looks like Fortis is over charging at bit

collectors time even has more fortis going cheaper....check it out...http://www.collectorstime.com/new-watches.php

what about this one? B-42 Flieger Chrono
nice blue hands and clean white dial...chronograph quite useful (i think..hehehehe)
retail USD 3200 or RM 9000 (checked with a local AD here...that's the best price)
Collectors time is selling at almost 50% of price.....

guys, i guess you guys have misintepret me, and sorry bout not making my statement clear...
when i said complicated + history, not due to their tech which compare with other big time watch makers...

[attachmentid=1666976]

it just that my personal preference that i like its complicated design(car speedometer)(emphasize on the outlook only) + history of the frogmen used it for war...  blush.gif
nothing much, it just plain personal perference...pls don flame me =.="

i guess everyone reserved the right to like whichever watch they love, despite the tech and engineering adopted in making the timepiece...
*
hey bro...no apologies la....patryn and ck77 not flaming you...they are just honest watch lovers....you'll learn a lot from them...trust me...from movement to price to best place to buy...i think its just a matter of phrase....to you, complicated is what you explained above ...to them...complicated is what watch lovers term as complications (loads of functions, moonphase, etc...)...

i also still learning....

yes....thats the beauty of watch loving..some emphasize on dial, some on brand, others on history and many on movements....

biggrin.gif  thx guys...apologies on my naive on the definition of "real" watch collector
well, i guess everyone/anyone is fit into this thread to discuss bout watch isn't it?
here goes, 2 weeks ago i went pavilion with my boss, and he's eagerly wanted to own 1 of the chopard...
he wanted to get an white gold classic instead...but unavailable in the chopard pavi...therefore they recommend another 1 which looks similiar with the 1 he's looking for...
[attachmentid=1667068]
(the one he's looking for is white dial)
but material wise, its only adopt stainless steel for its casing...
and the price on shelves, 19k! and able to get some discount, down to 17k, i was like...wth...17k for a stainless steel yet classic (with no function), does it overprice by high to heaven?
i can't imagine if it really the white gold chopard XPS, how much would that be...

feel free to enlighten me why would it be cost that much for a stainless steel yet classic model...
*
i have a feeling the sifus here will ask about the movement and comment if its worth it...

only the chopard LUC collection is using inhouse movement.
the rest uses ETA.
the LUC collection does cost more. its pretty normal for a inhouse movement in a steel watch to cost at that kind of price range.

Added on July 9, 2010, 5:56 pm

thats already sold.the diver still around and its for ~us$1390.
I like the blue hands and the white dial design but the 7750 isn't decorated.
I bet its the same grade as my Hamilton. not Top just Elaborated.
Guinand offer a cheaper deal, plus its 7750 is decorated with blue screws.
their series 20 do have blue hands, the color is similar to JLC blue.
*
yeah...sold...collectortime told me sold this morning...when i posted it last night it was still there...

movement aside...i read few times people claiming built of Ball is equal if not better than Omega...and this price hike and heavy advertising is their campaign to push themselves to be the Omegas and Tags, instead of sitting alongside the likes of Oris... cry.gif cry.gif

not really... cost of maintaining a mechanical would have cost alot more.
2-3yrs change battery cost say RM$60.
5yrs oil and clean mechanical would have cost RM$300!

i have visited wattatime MV last week, the staff said can give 18% discount for Tag.. i'm not sure if can stretch more the discount..

so i'm wondering are there any shops than can give around 25-30% for Tag Heuer or Oris watch?

thanks!

Added on July 13, 2010, 1:46 pm

sure.. hope can get a good deal.. smile.gif
*
well, do as suggested from my pm to you...i think you'll be happy...

i heard Tag is quite strict when it comes to retailers offering discount. I've heard of a dealership being revoked from a popular watch shop in Penang due to giving too much discount...so % of discount is a very personal thing...hence the `no receipt' option...

Added on July 13, 2010, 11:00 pm
QUOTE(silverwave @ Jul 13 2010, 10:31 PM)
How good is the discount for Tag?

How much can we nego actually?  tongue.gif
*
well, it depends on nego skill, mood of seller and of course models.....some models are easier to let go, some are bound to have buyer sooner and later even if you decided not to buy...

from what i heard, pay by cash, sincerity to buy helps a lot....

sometimes the additional 2-3% not worth it.....my take is if you find a model you like, a shop you are comfortable with and a tauke who is not proud and friendly, go for it even if its slightly more expensive. Watch buying may not be a one off experience..... you may need to return for another one, servicing, strap changing, etc....Kuanxi is very useful...

Me? the shop i buy from here in PEnang dont really offer the lowest price..but i am in a position where i can return a watch and change it for a slightly cheaper model after 3 days...(yes, they will reimburse cash to me....)..so...i think that's not a bad relationship...

apparently this Tag Golf design is unique. I am unable to find other bands in that style to fit the watch. Tag make it harder as its a 19mm, old size is kinda hard to find. its interesting that U have to cut 1 end of the band to size it up to fit. Did the freq stretching damage the original band already?

anyway at US$200 or RM$650 they better be genuine!

this person also experiencing the same issue. getting the right bands
