icic. but if i want to apply the direct access, it seems like the min annual income is rm30,000. if lower than rm 30,000 still can apply ?
*
For DA cards, the foremost criteria is your Degree/Professional Certs, so unless your income is below RM18K per annum, still got good chance icon_rolleyes.gif

but the rewards point quite high wo, plus the there are high acceptance of AMEX
*
If your preference is rewards point, then SCB VI is the Best option at 5X points for all overseas transactions. Further their rates are still way lower than Amex tongue.gif

Nope, only Degree/Professional (Architects, Accountants, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers) certs from Recognised Institutions/Body are considered. Advance diploma, diploma, technical certs are not eligible but you may apply for the regular CIMB cards smile.gif

Points also mean you are using your own $$$ to pay, unless the bank gives you free points to offset tongue.gif

I would suggest in your case to get a FD secured credit card or debit card.

Credit card for foreigners ?

1. Citibank - U need to make Rm 100K p.a. (if i made that much , i wouldnt bother getting a cc)

2. CIMB - Need to make a FD ( RM 5K ) No interest accumulation over the course of your cc tenure.

3. Maybank - Does give cc's to aliens. But they require a lot of documents and a DNA Sample.

4. Ambank - Apparently lots of the aliens approach this bank , but they require FD (with interest rate accumulation) over the cc tenure.

A secured CC is the same as a debit card with absolutely no difference.

Hope the expats (non-humans) benefit from this..
*
To be honest, a credit card is mostly for convenience, so as not to carry that much cash around, so in that respect a debit card works equally well. Plus it functions in the same way as a credit card and in some way much better ie, you will never need to worry about exhorbitant credit card interest tongue.gif

But if you really require a credit card, the best option would be to apply for one in your home country and use it here. A lot of expats actually do that fyi. Hope that helps

Thanks to all the gentlemen who had responded to my comments.

Actually I do have credit cards from my own country , but I want a local one , it would be easier to make my payments.

I dont know about Singapore , but for the US you dont need all that documentation , infact they just send you the cards to your mail , I have 2 cards that way.

I understand catching alien defaulters is a headache , but the banks should take into consideration the amount of time you have spend in the country and look into your banking history before making a decision. Unlike that B!tch rep (citibank) on the phone who hears the word alien , and starts spitting numbers out.
*
If that's the case, then the easiest way would be to ask your home country branch to transfer your a/c over to M'sia. I know Amex, HSBC, SCB & Citi have that service. Not sure if any other banks does hmm.gif

However, if you still insist on a local bank card, then it will have to be secured via FD unless your company provides you with a corporate card smile.gif

hahaha, with the introduction of RM50 government tax, it kind make it expensive to collect cards and spoil the party for us.

Most recent launches are premium cards where banks are trying to get customers they have loss. Actually the MBB WMC is pretty good for frequent flyers with MAS but no point talking about it as the annual fees is RM1K and RM1.5K and this will prevent people from applying for it if not utilizing the benefits that comes along with the card.

nowadays you see in this thread are people fixated with credit limit or how to get a CC, nothing interesting.
*
Nowadays, I would be most interested to know which Bank actually manages to maintain & grow its card base without subsidising the RM50 tax hmm.gif

... you left out the part "not earning enough" but still fixated with having a high limit. Guess people are more "gung ho" nowadays doh.gif

serious? 10 years from 40k CL to reach 110k? Wah so long! which bank always increase yours? or must request?
*
Ths issue here is not the time duration but wheather you will actually require such limit and most important of all, can you pay it back if fully utilised. Lots of people nowadays actually seems to have problem with repayment, even their PTPTN loan at minimal interest also cannot afford to pay, wonder how well they will cope with CC interest?? hmm.gif

Chemistry thank you for you suggestion , Ok its true Im a total noob at this , The CC would be mostly for online transactions and for fuel and utilities , occasional meals in good restaurants with my clients and girlfriends.. but thats about it...
*
Actually the SCB VI is the best credit card in M'sia for now, especially for a frequent traveller based on the following :

1) Unlimited free priority pass visits drool.gif
2) 5X reward points for overseas charges shocking.gif
3) Unlimited choice of rewards ie. you can tell them what you want instead of just choosing from a catalogue brows.gif
4) No expiry of reward points icon_rolleyes.gif
5) Free annual fee flex.gif
6) Free RM50 tax rebate thumbup.gif
7) Best overseas insurance coverage & car assist whistling.gif

Guess there are tons more, but you can find out for yourself hmm.gif

My aunt was given the regular VISA Platinum late last year and it is free for life. Yeah, that's right ! No need to call in whatsoever. It is written in the offer letter she received. She had been using a Gold MasterCard for quite a long time prior.
*
I believe its only for their Islamic cards ..........

SCB VI refer to Visa Infinite? What is the requirement? My salary will be far far to meet it.
Any other SCB card offer same benefits?
*
Salary is not important. All you need is to open a priority banking a/c with them as its only given complimentary to their priority banking customers. tongue.gif

They can afford to give their cardholders 5x Choice Points for all transactions done in foreign currency because of the unbelievably high admin fee or miscellaneous fees that are not publicly published charged to you when they convert the payment back into RM.
Oh no. It is not their Islamic card and it is not the Petronas VISA either. It is the generic VISA Platinum. It came in the mail and it stated the card is free for life. Anyway, even her Gold MasterCard was free for life too. No call to the call centre required   thumbup.gif
*
Yes, I do not dispute that their conversion rates are the highest encountered so far but after taking into account the 5X rewards, its still well worthwhile tongue.gif

And thanks for the confirmation in respect to maybank as was told at their treat fair that its only for their islamic cards

It's not matter of best or not best, it's the matter of suitability.
You recommend a card which requires 250k in balance, how can a fresh grad afford this?
Who will likely travel frequently? At least a Regional Manager I think.

Added on August 6, 2010, 2:57 pm
Bank's credit department is kinda unpredictable, sometimes double standard.
Citibank via phone call offered my sister a Shell Gold card free for life, which was not available for "walk in & apply".
*
I believe the question was which card offered the best rewards/rebates for all type of spending. Further suitability varies from individual.

As to how much a fresh grad has to his name, that I am unable to comment on. But fyi whence I was a fresh grad, my job already took me travelling the world with more than 9 months a year spent out of the country rclxub.gif

You mentioned SCB VI because you think it's the card that offer best rewards. Yeah, its benefit is very tempting indeed.
But my recommendation was based on gorengnazi's input.
Yeah, u were so great because you got the chance to fly across the globe. Not all fresh grad got that chance, u get wat i mean?
*
Erh, nothing great lah .... more like lucky as that was my first job as well. Finally quit as couldn't cope with the hectic cum irregular schedule after a few years. Further was only a junior exec then and expected to do A to Z, which really takes its toll. Anyway, you are probably right, they don't make them like they used to sad.gif

But seriously, nowadays got many fresh grads already got more than RM250K to their name, so though salary only can get classic card, already using SBC VI as income is not a factor tongue.gif
