WHAT ? Stamping fee ? HSBC did not charge me any fee at all when i applied for their credit card by pledging my Time Deposit to it. I believe Public Bank is not going to charge you anything too. Public Bank is the only bank that state publicly in their website that you can apply for secured credit card.

Wow!!! RM50 for applying a CC?
This is really ridiculous and nonsense charge.
Why not you go to PBB? If I am not mistaken the stamp duty just like about RM10,not until RM50 that high.

I think that's very typical of Alliance Bank. When i closed my savings account a while ago, they insisted that there is a service charge of RM10 no matter how long i've been using the account despite the fact that in their website it is clearly written there is no charge if i close the savings account after 3 months from opening. I suspect the staff attending to him is just like many other Alliance Bank staffs that do not know their own product offerings well.

Does that mean Public Bank will ask you to pay for the stamp duty ? Because when i applied for a secured credit card from HSBC last year, i did not have to pay anything at all tongue.gif

Yes. Same thing. I signed the same thing when i applied for my secured credit card but i paid nothing. No processing fee, no stamping fee whatsoever.

Yup, confirmed with my friend PBB charge RM10 for stamp duty coz he just applied few months ago.
Not so sure with HSBC, but probably I know that CIMB will not charge if u apply their CC secured by FD.

Chase, I just wonder, what is the ratio of your CL given by HSBC as opposed to your pledged FD? Since you have done it before, you are the right people to enlighten people here. CL for secured cc varies and is always a debatable question, as secured cc is for those who cannot show proof of income or those do not meet the minimum income requirement.

Yes. But they changed the rule already. The new rule comes into effect on 1/1/10. Before 1/1/10, they will charge you RM10 if you want to close the account even if you've been using the account for more than 10 years. But they won't charge you anything now if you close the account after 6 months from the date you opened the account. For basic savings/current account, it's 3 months and they won't charge you anything. The rule is now similar to CIMB Bank's and RHB Bank's.

Only 80% of the total amount pledged. The minimum credit line for HSBC VISA Platinum is RM30,000. So one will need at least RM37,500 to get the card.

I assume they should at least give the CL as the amount pledged right? They take no risk in this way. It is not fair if HSBC give only 80%.

For charges of closing account, I think charges is imposed on premature closure only right? BNM has to regulate for our consumers right.

I know bank negara had come out with a guideline for basic saving and basic current account, but i not sure about the others...

Each bank has its own set of rules. It just so happens that HSBC will give you only 80% and even if you query them, they will only tell you either take it or go to other banks. Besides, it is no secret that HSBC is very strict in approving credit card. They were extremely reluctant to give me the HSBC VISA Platinum then. They kept on asking me why do i need a second card since they already gave one to me. Then, they tried to persuade me to take the HSBC Gold VISA instead which i refused. At the end of the day, they gave up and issued me the VISA Platinum. It took them 1 week plus to finally agreed to give me the VISA Platinum laugh.gif

Yes. But Public Bank PLUS Savings Account is their own product, therefore they can make any rules they want. So, as long as you do not close your PLUS Savings or any other Public Bank non-basic accounts in the first 6 months, you won't be charged anything.

Not that they are reluctant. Just that they are very strict and this is not unique to HSBC Malaysia. The HSBC Group as a whole is well known to be very strict in issuing credit card.

As for why HSBC was so reluctant to give me the VISA Platinum credit card ... well, i was told that they usually only approve this card to those applying using payslips. I was also told that this card simply is too exclusive that they cannot simply issue the card to anyone.

Anyway, Since i already have one card from them, i asked them if it is possible that they cancel my current card and give me the VISA Platinum instead. A request which they neither reject nor did they agree to. I also asked them how about the Premier MasterCard then ? Is it all gimmick that they want everyone to think Premier MasterCard is better than any other cards offered by them ? A question which they avoided answering. After that, they told me they will discuss it with their credit card HQ in Lebuh Ampang and will get back to me as soon as possible. They called me back about two days later telling me that they have approved my application and i will just need to go to their office to sign some forms and i shall receive the card within a week.

Seriously, i do not need the card actually. I'm a card collector and i am very fond of their VISA Platinum design which was why i keep on insisting to get the card. I was even willing to give up my existing credit card from them in exchange for the VISA Platinum. The anniversary is due in a few months time and i have just canceled it laugh.gif

Lolz I like their credit card design though. Anyway I remember that you mentioned SCB business platinum cashback is immediately credited on that particular month itself right? Meaning I spend 20k this month I get 100 rebate on this month bill immediately and also 20k rewards points?

Actually, someone else said it a while ago.

Yes. I believe so. By the way, overseas purchases will get you 3x Choice Points for every RM1.

one simple way to close account without paying RM10 is to withdraw the saving until it left below RM10

BNM will close the account. That's what Public Bank officer taught me to close my PBB account

One good thing about SCB cards is that, cash back is immediately given after the retail transaction is completed. You will be able to see the cash back amount online for every single transaction 1 or 2 days after the transaction date. Whereas other banks normally show a lump sum, and some even only show the bullet cash back amount when cash rebates have accumulated to a certain amount.
