QUOTE(Nezloais @ Aug 2 2010, 03:18 AM)
Thanks to all the gentlemen who had responded to my comments.

Actually I do have credit cards from my own country , but I want a local one , it would be easier to make my payments.

I dont know about Singapore , but for the US you dont need all that documentation , infact they just send you the cards to your mail , I have 2 cards that way.

I understand catching alien defaulters is a headache , but the banks should take into consideration the amount of time you have spend in the country and look into your banking history before making a decision. Unlike that B!tch rep (citibank) on the phone who hears the word alien , and starts spitting numbers out.
*
The person who you calling names are just following the rules nor has the power to change them. Bro ... if you are using US as comparison then this is not the US. We too would love having things here which are comparable to the US but unfortunately this is Malaysia. If you are not happy, you can go to the US where they will give you the cards you want.

If I travel / work in another country then I have no choice but to follow local rules, period. The whole country is just not going to bend the rules just for one person unless you are of great interest to that country. I just can't believe you kept on scolding every one just because you think you have been treated unfairly as an alien.

Unfortunately, we Malaysians too will be subjected to alien rules when we go to apply for credit card in another country. If we are the low income earners then we will have to be happy with debit cards or just plain cash.

Nezloais, for you to be here, I guess you must be educated in someways.

Firstly I personally felt that it is inappropriate and who gave you the damn rigths for you to call another fellow Malaysian a b****.

Secondly, please note that Citibank Berhad was incorporated in Malaysia and therefore don't give us stupid excuse that because you're from US you can curse staffs of Citibank Malaysia.
Yup ... I share my opinion on the 1st and 2nd remark. Irrespective whatever his reasons are, he can't walk in here and start calling people vulgarities. This is not tolerated irrespective whether you are an Alien, Malaysian, Japanese, African ... whatever you are this is universally unaccepted.

Example : I'll get thrown out of the bank (or even shot at) if I curse a Citibank staff in Thailand for refusing to issue me a credit card. Does it mean just because they are a foreign bank, they are suppose to relax their regulations and issue me a credit card? Certainly not!

I never implied or said that those foreigners in Bangsar are earning RM100k. Rich or poor - everyone need to adhere to the local financial rules.

for a person with 25k gross salary monthly with no commitments, how much is a realistic CL to expect for cc?

Apply and you shall know. I'm sure it'll be a great number unlike us peasants here who earn a fraction of this person's earning.

There is actually and your bank normally won't tell you this. I forgot where it is already. Anyway, this was discussed here quite a few times already. Just not so long ago there was a lady who won the court case against a prominent bank in Malaysia and the judge ruled that she has to pay the bank only RM250.
*
I confirm this. If anyone here were to visit any bank's website for their cc T&C condition (please trust us ... not because it is not stated in the website doesn't mean we don't know what we are saying), it will say that the user is fully responsible for ANY claims up to the point where the card is reported stolen. (Of course coz once you report the bank will block your card)

However, sometime back there was a landmark case and the card holder won - only ending up to pay RM250 from the initial claims from the bank which ran into thousands. Do note in case you want to do the same thing ... the case took years to settle and before that you'll be harassed by the bank's debt collection unit and have your credit history tarnished. All this is because there's a ruling in Bank Negara that says that we are only liable for up to RM250 for credit card claims. Of course the bank will refuse this nor you can easily find this information in BNM website. (They are gov OK, likely this exist in print rather than in website) The bank will deny this purely because there're many people out there who will take advantage of this ruling to their own advantage.

Still it doesn't mean one can be complacent when you lose your card ... please report it to the bank immediately. Always be aware where your card is. It is always the case the consumer just take it easy and then blame it on the bank. Bank has thousands of cc transactions happening every second ... don't tell me they know right away your card is being misused. Be proactive to block your card if it has been compromised.

yes they will offer what you deserve. maybe gold or classic?

Errr ... don't mislead the guy. They will advise accordingly if applied via agent. If the guy put in the form on his own then be realistic @ the point of application. Otherwise the bank will just reject the application without giving any reason.

I once tried to apply for HSBC Gold card. I knew I was not eligible yet but still I ticked GOLD. The application ended up unreplied.

Something like this is likely to happen. Rarely (close to never) the bank will be kind enough to offer you a lower card or inform you personally.
@rockefeller's example is very very rare occurrence.

You should have also knew that HSBC cc is the hardest to apply. Not necessarily you qualify, you will definitely get it.
Many folks here complained about this but we have mentioned repeatedly that with HSBC the general qualifying rules does not apply.

Oh really? I'm sorry I didn't dig into the issue.
So, the puzzle remains unsolved? unsure.gif

Yup a few regulars posted this results of comparing all the banks you mentioned by posting a transactions of the same amount charged to different card at the same date and almost at the exact time.

As to the exact rate and calculation method used by the bank ... they will never reveal them. You can try asking on our behalf and try your luck this time whether you will be the lucky one. We already made our attempt ... you can try and help us to solve the puzzle.

Anyone has any strategies on how we can increase our credit limit. I know for a fact that making regular payments doesn't work. Still stuck with the same credit line for donkey years now. tongue.gif
Cheers.

Strategy

1. Give them your updated income documents.
2. Max out your CL every month. (90% and above) Very quickly they will upgrade you.
3. Wait ... wait ... wait till they upgrade your CL.

Got easy way to upgrade ? No such thing ... CL upgrades is not be given out easily.
