1) generally DHL now. charges can vary from 1500-3k++ yen. more items more expensive obviously, but the thing with amazon is that they also includes handling/service charges PER ITEM. that said, their fee is generally cheaper than any international shipping from japan so long you order at least 2-3 items. however if you single ship, they are pretty much the most expensive shippers for items like light cd/dvd/bd etc
for the specials (using google translate + my own moon language level):
- dvd/bd same contents
- "explosive" commentary (do correct me if im wrong lol) / some tv spot collection? / dvd commercial? / non caption OP&ED
- booklet "DC gossip magazine" (32pages)
- jacket illustration (the cover for the bd)
- some uncut voice specials?
there are other shops too like cdjapan, playasia. however i believe (from experience as well) for the best price, amazon.co.jp does offer the lowest even including shipping (of course, if you find cheaper, feel free).
2) the good thing with amazon is that they may give you further discount lower than the date you order if they are able to obtain better price. though quite unlikely. of course it will depend on their discretion entirely. also, discounts are usually "permanent" for amazon.co.jp , its just their marketing strategy to offer prices below RSP.
and yes, BD complete sets do cost that price, i already have a full set sora oto dvd season1 and full set spice and wolf BD season2 all limited/special editions, and the dvd is some MYR2k but i bought 5 volumes of it at insanely discount price from a "graduating otaku" from LYN. so the damage was only ~MYR1k++. horo BDs are ~MYR1.3k for just 4 volumes (13 episodes)
generally its preferred to get the volumes as they released, as you'll be more prepared to spend rm200-300+, than a lump sum of over 1k.
3) i heard the playstation 3 is implementing lockout for videos, though so far i dont think ive experience such issues. if thats the case anyways, BD roms drives are widely available at pretty decent prices compared to few years ago. and by rom, i mean you can crack/unlock region with it just as you would a region locked DVD. regarding info to crack/unlock em, i dont think it is appropriate to discuss in LYN, so you may just google if you wish to know.
4) as for customs, this is also a reason why buying individual episodes beats buying a whole box set in a go. as steno said, its under rm500, so chances to be nabbed for confiscation (hentai/really ecchi stuffs, on the cover generally, unless ur damn unlucky and still got requested to playback despite having a not so ecchi cover while the contents are ecchi) or taxing. basically if they dont see a value to tax, they generally dont bother to open the package.
