good morning all,
I'm a fresh grad in Mech engineering and I would like to ask a few questions regarding my cover letter and resume.
If a company does not advertise any vacancies but I would like to send in an open application, should I state the specific position that I want or should I just leave it open?
For example, I know this particular company hires pipeline/piping/static/structural engineer but they are not advertising any open positions at the moment, shoud I put the specific positions that i want as above or should i just put a general Mechanical Engineer (based on my background) under the objective line of my resume??
I'm curious to know as I will need to state "Application for the position of ...." under the subject line of my email, objective line of my resume as well as in my cover letter....
Would appreciate if anyone can give some opinion regarding this..
Thank You.

QUOTE(hans.excel @ May 13 2009, 05:48 PM) Why not just write "application for the position of engineer". Best still if you can provide a name of an officer in the company that you know the vacancy from in the letter. Thanks for the info... Hmm, I was thinking of putting that too...but thought it might be too general...worried that the company will think that i'm not sure what i want.... On the other hand, putting a specific position is like telling them i only want this position although i don't have any experience...and i think that's not very good... Do you think it's good to put "Seeking a full time position as an engineer with strong interest in pipeline engineering (the position that i want)" under the objective of my resume??? Thank you.

QUOTE(hans.excel @ May 15 2009, 06:42 PM) You could also add "Vibrant and analytical graduate seeking a full time position as an engineer with keen interest in pipeline engineering" thanks for the idea hans.excel another question i would like to ask is if i send in my resume through E-mail, should i write my cover letter as the body of the mail or is it better to put it as an attachment? if i put it as an attachment, what should i put in the body of the email? An informal message? Thanks alot!

Is it wise to hand in the hardcopy of my resume directly to the office rather sending through e-mail?
Any HR people here can advice?
Thanks.
