If a job requires you to include a photo, is it ok to print it on the resume? Im thinking that they need the photo to use it somewhere else if accepted?

Photos are optional.

Expected salary is also optional as it may affect your nego. However, given a situation where you expect say 5K, and the job offered is max 4K: f you put your expected, and i see your resume, I probably would skip it and save everybody's time. Most of the time those who dont put, ask for higher than budget and then time is wasted and you end up disgruntled that I wasted your time calling you in for interview.

SALARY IN RESUME:
Never put. That's one of the determining factor whether you're gonna get called for interview or not. Mine I put simply......

Expectation: Will be discussed through personal meeting.
It means, it depends on actual job scope, exp. level vs what i have to offer, my current remuneration package etc.

SALARY QUESTION DURING INTERVIEW:
After interviewer ask so...... what's your expected salary? Or sometimes they will wanna approximately know how much you're gonna ask, they will ask like ... what's your current salary?

The answer shouldnt be RMxxx per month.
Answer something that requires them to think and calculate abit tongue.gif like,

I am currently getting a package of about RMxxxxx per annum including benefits.

Let's say monthly base salary is RM3000, RM300 car allowance, performance bonus eqivalent to 1 month after 1 year of service, contractual bonus 2 months. Therefore calculation is RM3000 x 12 months + RM3000 + RM6000 + RM300=RM45300. Round that up to RM46k. If your company includes benefit like dental/optical, try to include that in also. Alot of companies dont provide dental/optical and sometimes, medical also not covered so you have to factor in all that. I once joined a company that only has 5 days MC and cannot claim medical bills (clinic visits for flu etc). Daym rugi.

I usually have a predetermined RM in my brain way before I apply for any job and I usually get it (mindset conditioning). Even if not, I will negotiate for lower during probation, after confirm X amount. 6 months down the road, I want what I ask for (if not alot 6 months is cool, if alot of increase, wait 1 year lor).

Always try to nego salary esp after they have offered (and only if it's lower than your base). For example if old company offer 20 days @ RM5k per month. New company offer RM6k @ 14 days AL per year. Try to negotiate to increase the benefits to at least 16 days. NEGO only if you're absolutely sure u want to join dat company - DONT DO IT FOR FUN.

Added on July 9, 2010, 12:32 amI find B&W photo tastefully taken like these (must crop la just till the face) more 'friendly'.... than typical passport/ic photo which is very kaku...

http://www.paultough.com/tough%20author%20...inal%20orig.jpg

http://kress.de/medien/red-bilder/10004/MarcHoenke.JPG <--- very nice lighting on this one

So try to get nice photos like the above. Have it in BW and colors. When send resume I use pure white conqueror paper if no photo required. Otherwise I print on matte inkjet paper as the colors come out vibrant and my photo looks good (it gets me interview) smile.gif

The other thing is resume layout. Do something nicer. If you dont know how to layout, use the table feature and then turn off all the borders once you are done. Dont print/send out Jobstreet default resume. It's long and............ not nice to read (too complex).

I would say the first thing that must put in resume is your competitive advantage. what can experience can you bring to the company? what value can you add to the company... basically think of it like, product marketing... WHY SHOULD U BUY THE PRODUCT?

Guys sorry if this has been asked before but i kept wondering how many pages should our resume be? Ideally.

Mine is around 3 pages with cover letter included. Have been scouting for other job nowadays but no luck. Have been thinking that if I should write more detail of what i do (job scope)

say you dont put the expected salary, then should i enquire them first how much they can give me, or i need to put the number myself? how do i figure the current rate in this matter?

and i would like to know how a negotiation process can be done? if they dont agree to the amount, should we agree to them instead? say it's minus 200-300?

My advise is dont apply. It will find its way to the KIV stack if they had one. If they dont then it is the trash bin. HR usually dont look at their KIV stack, they always assume people had found their jobs already.

If you want to write just title it "Application for Employment Vacancies".

It is advisable to put it in chronological order. The first order should be your latest followed by the rest.

Non related cert are added advantage. It is just like having a list of positions in your extra cirricular activities.

Greetings guys, I would like to have your opinions on professional-looking CVs.
About the font type, size, and layouts maybe?
