Malaysia has many more serious issues to deal with when it comes to crime and economy these days.
IMHO catching a few tortoise enthusiasts & the consequence of keeping some pet tortoises/turtles to the wildlife ecosystem is just too abstract for most ppl to appreciate as these are events that are at best speculative in the distant future. Just like banning everyone from driving on the streets as JPJ is worried about air pollution.
Yes there are events that have more tangible consequences happening. Murders, rape, whathaveyounot. But at the same time there are also "abstract" and "victimless" crimes happening like insider trading, tax evasion, intellectual piracy... should we let these proliferate because we need to prioritize the "real" crimes? I don't think so, keeping society behaved requires a holistic approach on all fronts.

How to conserve our wildlife when another department from the same government start approving the conversion of state land or class III / IV forest into plantation ??
Or logging in first class jungle !!
Two wrongs don't make a right, heard of that? You can fight those actions based on their demerit, but you can never use it to justify your own.

To conserve (maintain or maybe even to increase its total population ) but to even lesser amount of suitable habitat ?? Is that logic ??
But thats just me lah !!
Have I not done enough for the this species I loved ? But to what ? Let some of my first class pets migrate so as to legalised them in another country BUT wont be able to see them as often as I wanted !!
The best thing you could've done was probably to leave them where they belonged. Look, I sympathized for your loss, but you really should've done some research before you invested into them. These tortoises have been CITES-listed for decades. I know you have good intentions, but you're still contributing to the trade by creating demand.
