So, i think the next we should dive into are food... lotsa ppl keep on struggling "should i feed this? should i feed that?" I ever saw an forum was asking... "can i feed hard boiled eggs to my tortoise"? and another forumer replied.... What do you think? and how the tortoise going to find hard boiled eggs when they are in the wild? and who is going to boil for them ? it almost laugh my head off..... anyway...yeah.. i'm bad well..... so, guys, share what you feed ur tort? and how frequent you feed them? QUOTE(a_sim @ Feb 20 2012, 11:52 AM) Yo nice tort n husbandry... just keep them like the way you keep goat or dog!! LOL.Just wonder how you normally clean their poo poo since is grass field? Worry if not completely clean then it smell and neighbour complain. If raining will them get cold? Did you provide heat lamp? Since they always contact with ground then will need to deworm more frequent? I plan to put my tort outdoor but i have above concerns:). Thank you:D stop worry and start living! |

QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Feb 20 2012, 12:10 PM) Ask that guy who replied - who's gonna boil the egg for the tortoise .... Phew....How about this who's gonna give the tortoise money to buy mazuri or pretty pets ..... Pellets ? What it gonna do to earn pay ? In my view diet in rough = protein for growth , fiber/roughage for filling n ease of passing of motion , calcium for bone/shell building !! How they are provided in captivity are owner's responsibility n creativity ( most green are good ) feed in moderation nothing is bad ( unless it's known poison to both human n reptiles ) My feeding list is too long n varied a bit ( some sp more fruits or animal protein than others ... ) Cheers |

QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Feb 21 2012, 07:48 AM) Don't be afraid to try new method !! Never try never know . But some sp ( dry grassland ie leopard or sulcata ) especially new import should never be put outdoor Straightaway ( our high humid , prolong rain ..... ) will bring about RNS easily . Agreed....never try never know.... Need anything just ask ( no question too noob if enough research done ) below are some I heard over the years ( q I chose not to answer or comment ) - desert sp thus no need to drink water - desert night v cold thus can stay in my aircond room - lettuce are best food ........ Etc |

QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Feb 21 2012, 08:25 PM) The only bad I can think of are Samperth... You may need heating jumbo 5ftX5ft for ur big mama.... hahahBit extra protein and if that lizard poop has parasite worm's eggs !! Added on February 21, 2012, 8:30 pm I use lamp ( wattage will depend on height ) hung right above where I intended my tort to sleep !! 30-35oC seems warm n comfy for them . Heat pad ( exposed wire worries me a bit ) I don't use and can't find them in big enough size for some of my animals !! Lol Cheers yeah... what about infrared bulb? |

QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Feb 22 2012, 11:42 AM) All my outdoor enclosure ( fenced in dirt /grassed ground ) has a corner that's cemented , roofed ( keep rain out n to hang the light ) n this area is sloped so rain water will get drained out !! Yes... Those are something real serious..... The problem we always run into are temperature and humidity....Most if not all will choose to tuck-in there for the night !! Warm , cosy n dry . Cheers Added on February 22, 2012, 5:28 pm Instead one could always use ( piggery or chicken hatchery ) - Gas powered burner - Electric powered heating plate to warm a large area !! Below picture of what I suggested ![]() But as hobbyist do we need that ? We just small scale heating a few animals at a time !! QUOTE QUOTE(cameldog @ Feb 28 2012, 11:24 AM) Samperth, Now I have doubt.... i "suspect" the "presumed female" is male ! How do you sexing the radi ? care to share? Same as any other tortoise - Tail , Butt eye , Plastron , Anal scutes......... Bit of everything actually , if no tell-tale specific one !! But most Radi has rather short tail (thus sexed female when young ) till mature - if not why ppl say they can only safely sexed Radi after 9-10 inches or larger !! Cheers erm.... let me check again later when i get home....... |
