Tooo Big (as big as 15" car tire) and he has a big appetite hahahahaha This is the terrarium I was talking about not tall like fish tank, Sulcata bedding different from Radiata, Pixys and Istar (It don't last long any way 3 weeks only than I free him in my garden hahahahhahaha..) Below is Pixys . Pixys also a tortoise but it small size always in terrarium, I gave her to my nephew a few month ago. QUOTE(SheNightOwl @ Jul 22 2010, 06:04 PM) Thank you Akuning I don't know about any substitute for carapace cream. One of my friend got carapace treatment cream from Japan, I read the ingredients and Kamilosan are the closest one Kamilosan ointment made from Camomile Honey, it works like anti-septic but also moisturized the carapace by far I don't have carapace problem, I read it some where about carapace disease that cause of a small wound (especially if you put your tortoise in the garden, like I did). I don't gave them every day only once every two weeks. I often gave my tortoise Hibiscus leaf and flower, Opuntia cactus (because it's free hahahahaha. I plant it in my garden), watercress and fumak/siomak. And they also eat my grass if I'm late feeding them. Papaya once a week. for treat I gave them Okra but mostly I gave them Mazuri (a bit expensive here and not easy to find). For the sick Tortoise I gave them murbei leaf (it's a leaf for worm that made silk - ulet sutra). Why.. well murbei leaf have the ingredient that can make regeneration faster. I don't gave them food that gassy like capsicum, sawi or cauliflower. Every meal I sparkle it with calsium but not the one that sold in the market.. I use hhmmm what it's call? Well It's call tulang sotong here in indonesia (Calamary bone??? I don't know the name in English.. sorry... but it commonly used for bird) Hope this info help. Thx for your info... Opuntia cactus is that the kind of cactus very slim 1?did u peel off the skin? May i know what is fumak /siomak? i also got use tulang sotong...hope it works... i did heard of someone apply olive oil at carapace and some said use aloevera at carapace?did u heard any of this? u think is it good for them?

QUOTE(Blutangskink @ Jul 31 2010, 06:25 PM) Its all about how to share the knowledge, the more you understand the more you love them and participate to care how endangered rather than say " I have rare collection " Its all about educate people rather than scare them to death of huge penalty but people not knowing anything and what to do with endangered. I rather educate people " Buying mean Killing them " simple right.. Authority sometimes have double standard in fact in the end because they human being too and always chance to make little bit luck by misstreated man power, infact almost all authorities doing the samething. Just enjoying what you've got and give the best care so Tortoise you have enjoying life with you. i Love Indonesia too....alot of things are very open

Fumak/ siomak is a veggie that mostly used in chinesse food, I think I have a picture of it YesI peel off Olive oil will moisturized it and it save too (it's natural) my friend use it to his istar. But I don't know if it can cure any wound. But it's fine I guess. But I never heard of aloevera, a natural aloevera will be sticky don't you think? But it's really up to you. hehehehhehe. I will remind you again I'm not expert just love Tortoise and I have to say this I envy your government that take action about endangered animal, when my government will took action like yours?. If you visit my country and go to Pasar Pramuka you will cry like a baby .. sooooo sad seeing a lot endangered species being sold there. Once I wear my WWF shirt and go there and what happen is all the store closed hahahahhaha but still I have no army to do action wow...its really quite late...lol...but better than never reply... well ....your picture really nice...actually i still wondering what kind of vege is that but nvm ...i ll just buy some vege that almost as your picture will do...your tortoise was lucky also to have u as owner...

QUOTE(dENz ibeN @ Dec 8 2010, 11:46 PM) Hihi guys, very happy to find this TTT info thread. ;DD I'm very new with tortoise, but am very interested in having a Sulcata tortoise. I did some research on how to take care one, but most of the websites info are not according to our weather and environment here. And sadly, the tortie of my choice is Sulcata, and it can be very big --I mean enormous. So I worry that I don't have enough space for them to roam around. If I were to keep them indoor with the appropriate setting, will there be any smell? According to your response above, is redfoot tortie the best choice if I were to have a tortie that can accustom to Malaysia setting? I think most of the sulcatas lover will have this kind of problem...i dont have enough space to keep them as they can grow untill very big. but the real question is are u able to keep them untill so big?

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jan 4 2011, 07:44 PM) a little friendly reminder for those who pick up hibiscus/opuntia/grass/etc from your neighborhood, roadside, etc - be aware of pesticides. and plants that are planted by the roadside by municipal/city councils are usually watered with water coming from questionable sources - just smell it. plus, oh yeah, it is currently salmonellosis season in peninsular. the best source for these food items is to plant your own. if you buy a new plant from a nursery, it is advised that you wait until a few weeks until all traces of pesticides/fungicides/etc are removed from the plants. i agree....i been stealing my neighbour's hibiscus for a long time.... i think i need to spare time and plant my own

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jun 13 2011, 04:01 PM) Fly River (in which the name Fly River Turtle is derived) is in PNG. In fact, their range in Oz is a small fraction compared to PNG. breed or keep? they require permit. i reckon because they're almost always exported together with ornamental fish, in which authorities are not aware of what they're dealing with (???). e.g. the case with axolotl, which are always described as 'mexican walking fish' (the importation goes under fisheries department) while in fact they are amphibians (which by law should be monitored by wildlife). edit: but hey, hong kong wildlife and fisheries is integrated into one department, so i should be wrong i got few actually i mean breed....... i know it require license as is cities species. just cant control myself to get 1 that time bought 1 year ago now is about 6inches from tail to head
