i love turtle. use to have a pair of RES. i admit i was a lousy owner, didnt knew a thing about taking care of them, even the pet shop salesgirl told me they should be ok in a small bowl. looking back, i feel so sorry for them. im planning to get turlte now, but this time im going to get proper tank with basking area n UV lamp. good thing i can get all the info from this thread.

for any pets, we should gather info before getting the animal.

is it normal for RES to spend more time in water than basking area? is it even normal for them to sleep in the water?

Turtle ? How exotic you after ? First of all your budget , as you mention caramel RES thats pretty expensive !!  Go local thats cheaps (But RES is still the cheapest in fish shop )

You mention turtle tank - those small tank with palm tree , bridge .........etc ??
Cheers

Normal bulb only good for providing heat . Thats it !!!

UVB "provide or give" Vitamin D3 if your animals has no access to pure sunlight .

Try Harvest I got mine from them !! You want bulb or tube they come in two type (same brand Exo Terra )

Cheers

harvest is a shop? weekend i bring my RES outside to get sunlight, but pity the turtle on weekdays, in the aquarium all day n nite. i got Exo terra repti glo bulb, but i think the shipping damage it. so i want to the bulb locally. without shipping.

I think that 1B pet shop got more in( Indian star tort )  since last week go check it out !!

But a few I deem reject or 2nd grade ( extra scutes.... ) still quite active BUT without extra heat provided , saw dust as substrate WON'T be for long especially for small ones like them !!

Cheers

i see them... they look sad in there.. do u know where can get malayan box turtle hatchlings?
