Hi,

I'm new here and my father kept a pair of Indian Star Tortoise for nearly 5 years already.

The male isn't growing for about few months alreadt while the female is still growing every month my father checked on their size and weight.

My father actually love the pyramids on their shells, but is it unhealthy for them to have it? I read that it is not healthy for the growth of organs. Can anyone advise me on this?

My father was thinking of letting them to mate. It will be fun to have baby tortoise around. Does anyone know under what condition they will mate? Thanx!

The male one is 5 inch (about 0.6 kg), female one is 8 inch (2.34 kg). And the female one is extremely huge.

BTW, sorry for the wrong info, Dad just corrected me, they are 4 years old.

And I'm not sure if the female one is having excessive growth as it loves bean sprout so much. And I've read that too much of protein is actually a wrong way of feeding to them.

Healthy chelonian will be interested in mating almost anytime especially after a rain or two !! If not try seperating them for a week or two (or longer ) before introducing them togather again and see what happen !!

Really?? I think I will suggest this to Dad! smile.gif

BTW, the lumps both of them have here is quite big, we didn't know that it's actually a disease that will affect the growth of their internal organs... I wonder if there's any way I can help them up? It worries me... And I don't think we've supplied them with enough amount of calcium...

it could affect mounting -> it would be harder for males to be in mating position since pyramiding on the female would hinder his climbs.

but heck, just hope for the best.

Damn... We should aware of this early. Dad loves them because of the pyramid! Oh damn...

I read that their life span is about 60-80 years. If in a case like this, how long can mine here live? How serious will they be?

BTW, camillenoir, can I have ur msn contact if u have one? It would be easier to ask u. I have a lot of questions to be answered!

I think the male will have trouble holding on to the female - He is too FLAT !! Thinking his concave plastron will be minimal ?

NicoleACY
May we see a pic of the Male's plastron - to be sure of my above statement ? But since you have good help ie Camillenoir you should be just fine even without posting !!

But, even if he's too flat... He never shows any attitude to try to hump on the female though... But sometimes he will bring out his 'stuff' out and drag on the floor here and there!

Well yeah, I had a great chat with him last nite! Feeling very thankful to have him to help out. I was really worry. Haha.

Hello, I'm back again with questions.

My female star tortoise, lately, it doesn't eat much (well usually it eats greedily).

And we noticed its weird behaviour lately: it puts up its butt really high and we thought that it is having trouble shitting and we got shock to see it puts out something reddish then shrink it back on again. But it doesn't look like those the males have.

Can anybody explain what's going on?

And BTW, they are mature enough, but they seem like having no idea how to do 'business'... Should I provide some 'tortoise porns' for them just like what they did for the pandas?
