QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Mar 5 2012, 01:26 PM) I bought timothy hay initially for them, but they end up for some reason biting each other...and almost choked due to the flowers and cant even bite the hay. This time, I am going to grind the timothy hay and mix it with mazzuri to become a huge mazzuri ball This post has been edited by Dagashi: Mar 5 2012, 05:03 PM |

QUOTE(cooler8 @ May 4 2012, 04:55 PM) Yes, i keep them together with some other species as well. They seems to live in peace in one another. No sign of fighting..It's a big tort family.. I want to get a Sulcata but problem is they're notorious digger and grow up to be a giant. My 2 puny star gonna be super stressed out. At least I think introducing a 3rd tort will stop them from biting each other. |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Jan 10 2013, 01:26 PM) Hello sifu, I think you would also need to check if he is wild caught or captive bred. Depends on the illnesses and bacteria that they have as well. What I understand is generally need about 6 months quarantine period before introducing new additions. and that is also under controlled environments. U don't want a case of bullying! But if your sulcata is a hatchling (under 1 year). He'll generally be about the size of 4-6cm (plastron) which is definately much smaller than your egpytian. you may rethink about putting them together for the time being until your hatchling becomes similar in size (for the sulcata it won't take long prob 6 months on a good diet. Before you know it.. the sulcata will be a giant! -New box-mate is newly born and healty (eating like a baby, all the time) -My little Egyptian is about 8-9 centimeter from tail to head approximately. -Box is around 85x50 centimeter. But my current tortoise don't like being in the box, he will be scraping the sand to ask people to put him in the living room. Quite friendly, know to approach my mom foot if he is feeling hungry Btw your egyptian looks great and the best measurements would be on the plastron for greater accuracy. |

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Jan 11 2013, 02:57 AM) Its a captive bred. Thank you very much for your tips. thanks for your review!I also soak the pellets first before feeding it to my torts. easier for them to eat. But can't be too wet or else they will be too soft and mushy (then it becomes messy and difficult to clean).Anyway, my Egyptian really LOVE eating your pellet. But I kinda dip the pellet into a water to make it slightly soft to consume. Sometimes mix with any other vegetable eventhough he kinda dislike it Thank you very much for the tips, too! I really could learn a lot from you guys I also found that if we put veges together with mazuri, our torts will just ignore the veges. I suspect my baby sulcata (approx 5cm-6cm) can eat 3 pellets by himself for the whole day!! and contrary to normal babies, he can happily munch away on full stalks of veges which we found amusing cause those were meant for our older stars. I find that sulcatas are ferocious eaters I also notice that each tort is so different in behaviour. my sulcata will sleep with his body slightly upright against a wall whereas my stars will just laze around happily in the shaded area. |
