QUOTE(sa10 @ Jul 26 2010, 06:10 PM) so far i hav no problem in gaming with default driver. most of the time u guys hav problems because of the improper game settings I beg to differ. The default driver doesn't display fire and explosions correctly in L4D1/2. The latest one does. Game settings unchanged.

They replaced my whole laptop after I found 3 dead pixels on the LCD. By the way, here are 2 screenshots of L4D1 with all settings high. The first one was taken with stock Nvidia drivers, the second is taken with updated 258.96 drivers. As you can see the stock drivers have a problem with displaying large fires and explosions, but it's patched with the latest drivers. I have a question. I'm planning to get an external microphone. I also want to use a pair of earphones or headphones. However there's only one jack in A42JV for audio input/output right? So that means I need to get a microphone that's attached to a pair of earphones/headphones, correct?

Went to MidValley Logitech store today and bought a Logitech Gaming Headset G330 for RM189. Also disabled the A42JV built-in microphone. Now when I play L4D1/2 my friends no longer complain my voice is muffled. This post has been edited by Andrew Lim: Jul 29 2010, 01:15 AM

ME2 is Mass Effect 2. DS is probably Dead Space.

Could it be your antivirus? I uninstalled the TrendMicro antivirus and haven't experienced any lagging yet.

I think some programs need it. It's the redistributable, not the actual Visual C++ program. Doesn't actually take up much space.

QUOTE(CZero @ Jul 30 2010, 07:41 PM) For now, I'm loving it. But the built-in microphone is almost useless. Too much noise. Other than that, its perfect for my current gaming need. xD I agree, the build-in microphone is horrible. I invested about RM180 buying Logitech Gaming Headset G330. Pretty comfortable and light. Decent audio quality and the microphone is fantastic.

QUOTE(CZero @ Jul 31 2010, 01:11 AM) Oh, I see. Didnt read Andrew Lim's link properly. btw, as promised, some benchmark. all game are set to the most maximum setting available. I can always set stuff like AA a bit lower to improve the FPS later on. xD Nice benchmark screen captures, CZero. May I ask what software you used to capture the FPS? FRAPS? I'm also playing Bioshock and all I know that is it runs smoothly at high settings.

I take out the battery whenever the laptop is plugged in, which is 99% of the time. Extending the life of my laptop's batteryI think it does less harm than just leaving it in all the time. Saves the power supply from constantly maintaining a 100% charge on the battery anyway.

QUOTE(xXwasabiXx @ Aug 1 2010, 02:40 PM) I was playing L4D2. Question is, how to know whether its running using my NVIDIA GPU or INTEL build-in gpu? A42JV can play L4D2 on all settings high. If you experience noticable lag, you're probably using the Intel integrated GPU. If you upgrade to the latest 258.96 WHQL drivers, they provide a little program to tell you what programs are using the Nvidia discrete GPU. No programs using Nvidia GPU. L4D2 using Nvidia GPU. I don't use any AntiVirus but I use CCleaner to disable some of the startup programs when Windows 7 starts up. My A42JV starts up pretty quickly and hardly ever lags.

I blame Nvidia for not giving more control over their Optimus technology. There should be a manual switch to use Optimus exclusively 100% to solve all these incompatibility issues. And another option to report only 1 graphics card to applications so there won't be all these hacking errors.

Luckily most of the games I play have no problems with the Optimus/Nvidia 335M card, especially after I updated to the latest 258.96 drivers.
