@-br0k3n-

You're going to have to buy a switch and wire it to one of the blue LAN ports on the DIR-615. The ports on the fiberhome modem are not supposed to be used by PCs. The red LAN port is only for IPTV access.. so in short you only have 3 usable LAN ports.. to get more, buy a switch and wire it to one of those 3. And yeah.. you have to use the dlink router unless you have a dd-wrt flashed router lying around.

Hi Riz. Been following your very useful posts.

If I have a Linksys WRT54GL and flash it with DD-WRT, could I use that instead of the TM router?

Thanks

If it has VLAN tagging support, yeap. But I can't guarantee anything, another LYN-er tried it with a dd-wrt flashed buffalo router and it doesn't seem to be working properly. I'm not sure if he was on VDSL Unifi or Fiberhome though..
Haha, I didn't test it out till today.. I had a spare quad core c2d rig around with 8gb of RAM in it. Hooked up 2 additional NICs (3 in total), tried pfSense on it and the Internet worked fine.. but the IPTV didn't work at all.. I think pfSense blocks multicasts and I'm not too familiar with FreeBSD to fix the problem.
Hmm. I guess it might be safer if I connect the Link sys to the Dlink in bridge mode for now, disable DHCP and let the DHCP come from the Dlink?
I have preset static IPs in Tomato for QOS - I guess I have to change these now?

@Riz I am on Tomato - have not flashed to DD-WRT since the thread here suggests there might be performance issues. Yeah I am mainly concerned about the weak Wifi of the Dlink. Thanks for your explanation. So may use the LInksys as the wireless AP and additional ports if the need arises.

Yeah, I agree. Normal user not familiar about this Vlan thingy. I bought the Vlan capable router Linksys RVS4000 but still not successful. Hahaha.. too complicated.

Agree and hopefully there'll be an FAQ by the sifus here to help configure VLAN tagging capable routers for Unifi.

Even if there was an exploit TMNet can monitor you and such a hack would be a breach of your contract's T&C. I don't think it's worth doing it.
Can we direct our efforts towards configuring other routers for use with Unifi?

Well it's like stealing bandwidth. You are hacking to get more than what you are paying for.

Ok, I meant the hack to uncap it and get 100 Mbps. That would only get one in trouble with Tmnet and account suspended at the very least I suspect.

Anyway, getting back on track. Having my dir-615 replaced then writing a guide on how to get it working with your own hardware smile.gif It'll be up in a few days I guess

TQ. I look forward to your guide.

Is there a way to monitor bandwidth usage at the router level for the DIR-615? The bandwidth monitor software would measure traffic for inidividual PCs connected to the network only IIANM.

Any reason why the firewall is disabled by default?

Last couple of days I notice I can't access certain sites (US hosting) via Unifi but I can access them with other Internet providers so the server is not the problem. I have had this before with Streamyx and wonder if if it is a routing issue with Unifi. It's not a DNS issue as I have tried with Google and OpenDNS.
e.g. http://twitpic.com

So far is there any throttling of bandwidth, for like youtube or megaupload?

I must say Youtube streams very well with Unifi compared with my previous Streamyx 4Mbps. RS downloads are significantly faster too. With Youtube I do not get any buffering so it is a pleasure to watch streaming videos for a change.
As the speed tests with US are generally better too compared with Streamyx 4 mbps, I tried to see if Hulu streamed better and indeed it does - in fact very smooth with hardly any buffering at all.
For Hulu, the free VPNs with US IPs are pretty useless so best get a paid one. The cheapest I have come across is BlackVPN.com and you can get it for only €5 for three months if you use a referral code (you guys can use SCDVDZN).

After one month still having connection problems using Unifi with certain sites e.g. Mediafire, iTunes, Palringo ....It happens only in the evenings and in the morning it is OK. Strange thing is with a VPN I can connect but without a VPN the sites are "blocked". Ping Plotter shows time outs in the route.
