I must say Youtube streams very well with Unifi compared with my previous Streamyx 4Mbps. RS downloads are significantly faster too. With Youtube I do not get any buffering so it is a pleasure to watch streaming videos for a change.
As the speed tests with US are generally better too compared with Streamyx 4 mbps, I tried to see if Hulu streamed better and indeed it does - in fact very smooth with hardly any buffering at all.
For Hulu, the free VPNs with US IPs are pretty useless so best get a paid one. The cheapest I have come across  is BlackVPN.com and you can get it for only €5 for three months if you use a referral code (you guys can use SCDVDZN).
*
What about http://www.strongvpn.com ? It's LPTP VPN any speed connection to UK/US server. Only RM15 per month hmm.gif

They do have openvpn and better encryption but it will cost you more.

This is friggin ridiculous. You know tmnut has a website that shows the eta for Unifi for the areas.
http://www.unifi.my/unifi/index.php?option...d=63&Itemid=213

But my area in mutiara damansara, only some streets have unifi. We are using the taman tun exchange which i've confirmed with a few people including tmnut doh.gif

QUOTE
Dear Sir,

We are understand your feeling. Your telephone number is using Taman Tun exchange. However we don’t have information when will the infra are ready for Unifi subscription at your address.

So on website it says taman tun exchange live Q2, also i know for sure some parts in MD and also Perdana got unifi already. How come they don't know when the infra for my street to go live :/ ?? So that day i saw tmnut people laying black cables and the ftth box what is that? Don't they keep track of their own peoples activitivities hmm.gif ?

Anyone got any ideas how i should go about finding this info. I want to subscribe before next month when they start to charge for installation fee.

ESR-9850 is much better then the WNDR3700. ESR-9850 has 19,000 maximum simultaneous connections. The WNDR3700 only has 4000. You do the math ;_;

Lan to wan, wan to lan, maximum throughput and maximum simultaneous connections, the ESR-9850 beats the crap out of the WNDR3700.
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/component/o...art/Itemid,189/

ESR-9850 full review
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wi...switch-reviewed
http://tipstir.the-talk.net/reviews-f1/eng...esr-9850-t1.htm

Also sells for Rm 276 shipping included ;_;

So sure the ESR-9850 doesn't have dd-wrt (although people are saying it may be able to be supported if DD-WRT care to check it out); but for the performance of stock firmware + price winning over the WNDR3700, it's a clear cut case to me which is better laugh.gif

Please do note that the ESR-9850 doesn't seem to have a configurable vlan if you have unifi, however Rivzan has said you can convert the provided DIR-615 as a switch to do the vlan tagging for you, so it doesn't matter that the ESR-9850 has vlan tagging support or not.

I already ordered one, so i'm putting my mouth where my money is nod.gif

Kinda OT, but what's the use of so many connections? I'm running 10 torrents in utorrent  and I rack up about 2000+ connections based on what my WRT54GL Tomato says.
If you run thousand of connections and max out the line, then you can't surf the net, do you solve it with more connections or with QoS, could you please enlighten me?

and where to order?
*
I'm not an expert but for p2p, max simultaneous connection is important. Cauz when you run out of sessions possible, that is when your router chokes e.g. lock ups and needing reboots.

Also when a router outperforms on so many levels for half the price, you'd be crazy not to consider this router. For QOS feature i think the ESR-9850 is quite simple meaning don't expect to have much advance qos control (but i never bother setting up qos, so for me that wasn't a deciding factor).

They do have 2 other models with better QOS features. You can look at smallnetbuilder to see the other ESR one of which can do 40,000 + max simultaneous connections, however is only 100mb ports. The other ESR doesn't have the inbuilt hardware nat, but it has dual band wireless. So take your pick out of those 3 depending on what you need.

You can order from here (it's a hongkong company that does international shipping)
http://www.linkecomputer.com/products/1009...R9850/EnGenius/

Can also order within Malaysia but they charge 3-4 times as much which is daylight robbery which was why i ended up ordering from Hongkong instead.

ps: there are ways to increase your maximum simultaneous connections in thirdparty firmwares like DD-WRT. However it may make your router unstable. But looking at the WNDR3700 hardware specs (Cpu and ram), it looks promising you can increase the max connections just fine. But i didn't want to invest in the router and experiment myself to see what it's limits were. Whereas the ESR-9870 i already know what it does + cheap price + the other performance stuff like wan to lan, lan to wan and maximum throughput (which cannot be changed even with DD-WRT) were the other deciding factors nod.gif

i asked them before, with 10 units also is rm500
BTW if i saw ur post a week before, I might be the organizer since last week I plan to bulk order from overseas and i open the bulk, but after that i found local is more cheaper compare to overseas so i close the bulk, but now im consider dir825 already which is cheaper + performance less than wndr3700 a bit only but dd-wrt is much more stable with dir825, external antenna which I can replace with more high gain antenna later on, also the bonus is lifetime warranty by dlink, netgear only 2 years.

Added on June 10, 2010, 11:51 pm

I'm too consider ESR-9870 before but it does not have dual band N which pull me back >< if its wireless N is dual band, I'll probably buy that already ><
*
Yes the ESR-9850 is not dual band but that wasn't what i was interested in. I use it for wired routing :} with minimal wireless capability since i hardly use wireless.

ESR-7750 has dual band but is 100mb port. As a bonus it does 40,000 + max simultaneous connections. Even though it isn't gigabyte ports, it's throughput is more then sufficient for our Unifi 20 mb. Also for lan to lan routing for machines, you can always use a switch with 1gb ports i guess.
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wi...reless-n-router
http://www.linkecomputer.com/products/1006...R7750/EnGenius/

ESR-9855G has dual band and excellent QOS because they are using the ubicom chip. They dropped the HNE feature for QOS hardware Stream Engine, so this is the downside. Also seeing as it is a ubicom chip, doesn't seem as third party firmware like DD-WRT could be made for it in the future.

Guys, what's the maximum spd per sec we can obtain from VIP 5 when downloading torrent through utorrent?!? Thanks! biggrin.gif

If direct download 1 connection i don't see a problem.

If p2p with many max simultaneous connections, the dir-615 is probably gonna hang quickly. Maybe someone who has unifi and torrented could enlighten us what happens when they torrent using that crappy router laugh.gif

RTN16 claims to do 300,000 sessions. However according to smallnetbuilder, it only does 200. But then again i am not sure if they re-tested using their new method to test maximum connections.

Finally my place got unifi. I'm scheduled for Wednesday next week for them to set it up.

Today i got the brochure explaining about Unifi, so i called up to check if it was available and it was.

Previously they said they would call me as soon as they had it. They never did. They were probably hoping to keep quiet until next month when i would have to pay for installation fees like most unifi users would..... i wouldn't put it past them thinking along these lines tongue.gif

But then again i did receive the brochure *grumble -.-;

My advise, chase them up yourself and don't expect them to revert back to you even though they say they will. They are good liars rolleyes.gif

And another worrying thing. In the brochure, they still say the cap remains the same as during the Unifi launch. Kinda worrying because they will later use that as an excuse to cap what they originally planned as soon as more people have signed up. I would advise some caution regarding their cap policy for the future hmm.gif

I also just got the brochure a few days ago even though I've been using it since launch week. I think they needed time to print it.. but you're lucky they covered your area biggrin.gif

I'm not really worried about data caps, can bypass them if you have teh skillz wink.gif
*
Which i don't icon_question.gif

Anyway another good news, seems my ESR-9850 has been shipped. Probably get it next week same time that i get Unifi, just in time nod.gif

Oh by the way Riv, since my Unifi is being setup, maybe can check whether they are giving a random password to the admin account shocking.gif

By chance will they give me the admin username and password if i ask for it?

side note, 10Mbit = 1.19 MBytes/sec. If you're getting a download speed between 0.9 and 1.2 MB/sec, then that's normal cool.gif

The biggest open secret why they are doing this to us. Security isn't top of their agenda mind.

Torrent = p2p

P2p = lots of bandwidth

use lots of bandwidth = eats into ISP profit margins

Invest in crappy router and give to users = p2p hardware throttle

= profit g_g;

ISP throttle via their network + crappy router that sux for p2p = they win we lose shakehead.gif

What next?

Question. What is 20mb and what to expect?

QUOTE
Answer. It can only mean the maximum speed of the connection which would be 20Mb/s (megabits per second)

An uppercase B means Bytes, and a lowercase b means bits. There are 8 bits in a Byte so:

20Mb/s megabits per second =
2.5MB/s MegaBytes per second or
  20480Kb/s Kilobits per second or
   2560KB/s KiloBytes per second.
To put things into perspective, if you currently have 4mb broadband, that is 512 kb/s maximum speed (although in my own experience, i get max 400 kb/s). So just imagine if you upgrade to 20mb cool.gif

And don't forget, it's 20mb download AND UPLOAD !!! Which would make unifi a good connection to host stuff. But then again, when cap goes active, you wouldn't want to waste your bandwidth uploading stuff to others..... sly tmnut shakehead.gif This is why malaysian broadband is fail with a capital F. Tmnut is too stingy although it is a monopoly and already has huge profit margins rolleyes.gif

Hope that answers laugh.gif

And as usual, don't expect 100% of that total 2.5MB/s especially for international connections. Our tmnut provider is said to provide somewhere between 70-80% of the promised speed. If they don't, make sure you take the required screenshots of proof and lodge a complaint to CFM for them to whip tmnut into action to correct the matter nod.gif

@Lucas

Any screenshots for utorrent after switching to your own router? I would be interested to see nod.gif

Side note: even with better download speed, megaupload/rapidshare etc have download speed caps for free users.

QUOTE
I don't use megaupload or rapidshare so I can't tell you. Youtube upload is definitely over 1.3MB/s, rapidshare from what I can see as a free user is only 200-300KB/s.

So you probably won't get full speed from your connection unless your using a paid account for those services :/ meh. If you want the minimum broadband speed to get the most out of FREE USER megaupload and rapidshare downloads, then 5mb unifi is your best bet.

Some landed property implementations, you either have poles, or the greenbox. Like my area, all the cabling is done underground so i get the greenbox. Inside it is that ftth white box you see from the pole (i know since i saw them open it up laugh.gif )

This is called "voting with your wallet".

If you pay someone for a shitty service, because "you don't have a choice", why would they change? They have absolutely no incentive to do so. Put aside your "desire" for a while, that will force them to give you what you really "need" in a service.
*
Malaysian consumers are just too weak ...... if we were strong (excessively) we would be just like Thailand, and you know what happened to them hmm.gif

But then again there are just too many injustices in Malaysia. We will have to use a soft approach and change through our votes. Vote PKR and hope for change laugh.gif

As for choice, my place now also is supported by metrofon, but they are only offering 2mb fiber .... that is vs tmnuts 20mb unifi. So as much as i hate unifi cap policy + pricing, the competition isn't offering anything much better either, so what choice is there hmm.gif

I think we are entitled to get full access of the router. They cant jst lock us out like that.

BTW, went to TM point to terminate my HomeLine + screamX. They wont allow me to terminate it until 30 June 2010............

I asked why, they say need to wait until UniFi billing date starts, which is 1st July 2010.

Then i ask, i wanna terminate homeline+screamx, whats the relation with UniFi? They could not answer me.

Which means, if i have Homeline + Screamx, but dont hv UniFi, i can terminate anytime, but once i subscribed to Unifi, i could only terminate it on 30 June 2010....
*
Make report to cfm hmm.gif

Good info since i also need to terminate my 1mb and upgrade my 4mb to 20mb unifi.

All they told me was i can do that after i got Unifi. But now you provide this info, i better double check again with them.

Those sneaky bastards probably intentionally forget to mention this vmad.gif
