Hey guys,
Wanted some info on receivers.. I'm hoping to buy a receiver soon and i've pretty much settled on a Pioneer VSX-1019.. Only problem is I don't have any bluray discs and i'm using astro standard-definition for now... What I want to know is will there be any significant difference in picture quality if i connect my dvd player (via component) and astro box (via composite) through my receiver to my tv(via hdmi) or is it better to connect them direct to tv and let the tv upconvert it? I'm using samsung series 5 full hd 40 inch lcd tv... If so, how do I activate this feature?

some (entry-mid) range of AVR does up-scale (different from up-convert) SD signal to 1080p...the Pioneer 1019 should have also.

I would suggest you connect the Astro using s-video cable to the AVR for better picture...upscaling astro signal does not make much different but change the composite to s-video does make big different.

Thanks bro for quick reply...
Pioneer VSX-1019 doesn't have s-video input.. Only hdmi, component and composite... My tv also doesn't have s-video input only component, composite and hdmi...

Thanks, looks like i'm in a bit of a mess.... I guess i will buy the receiver and hope for the best... Looks like the upconversion feature is going to be a waste of money.. does upconversion reduce pixelation of sd content?
