im currently using elixir strings. the strings still look n feel like new after a week. the tone is just amazing. i was an ernie ball strings user.
elixir claims that their strings can last 3-5 times longer than normal strings. i dunno how true is that, guess just need to wait and see. but if u think about it, at some point, rm40 for a set of strings that can last 3 times longer is cheaper. normally a strings need to be change every month. consider all the hassle u to change the strings, 3 set of strings for rm60, its more expensive |

QUOTE(PVCpipe @ Apr 28 2010, 01:19 AM) ernie ball regular string easily to get rusted compare to d'addario... from my observation using them, coz im also hav prob with sweaty hand... my solution is to clean the string and apply the sewing machine oil... that would preserve the string from rusting easily machine oil? that's not good for the fingerboard and any wooden part of the guitar.my advise, d'addario + baby oil. i was an ernie user too, until like most other, i discovered it rust too quickly. now i'm with d'addario. i don't really have time to play everyday, but usually it's about 2-3hrs per session. after each session, i'll wipe the string with baby oil. now, i only need to replace my strings due to tone lost, not due to rust anymore. i can leave the guitar unplayed for 2-3months and the strings will have minimal rust. |

But after you applied the oil, do you re-wipe the strings with clean cloth/tissue/etc. to remove the oil? Oily neck can be a hassle... And the bold quote, are for you real?! I have to change strings every 3 weeks after 12 hours play-time weekly... Might have to steal a bottle of baby oil from my little nephew |

QUOTE(JoBigShow @ May 5 2010, 06:00 PM) Nice tip! dont use to much. just 2-3 drop on a small piece of cloth and wipe away. you just want to wipe it, not soak the strings. do this after each time you play(make it a habit) and your string will loose its tone before rusting. But after you applied the oil, do you re-wipe the strings with clean cloth/tissue/etc. to remove the oil? Oily neck can be a hassle... And the bold quote, are for you real?! I have to change strings every 3 weeks after 12 hours play-time weekly... Might have to steal a bottle of baby oil from my little nephew baby oil won't really harm the fret board, but just try not to use too much until it gets on the neck. honestly, i swore by this method to keep my strings shiny for nearly 2 years now. |

i am extremely happy with my elixir strings. after 3 weeks using using it, it doesnt show any big rust and wear signs. still shiny, still hold the tune well and the tone is just to die for.

QUOTE(zeroglyph @ May 13 2010, 10:16 AM) i use j&j, but i suspect most baby oil will work. if you use j&j, get the normal one, not the less-greasy or + aloe vera or such things, you're using this on metal after all. Yup, baby oil is more human friendly than those sewing machine 'Singer' oil or the good ol' WD40 |
