SEOUL, South Korea - A new Samsung Symbian-based smartphone that corresponds to the Omnia line, has leaked - this could become the Omnia HD2, running on the upcoming Symbian^3 operating system. There have been words from analysts who say the follow-up to the Omnia line was actually cancelled.

Samsung already fights in many fronts when it comes to smartphones: Windows Mobile, Google Android, Symbian, and soon, Bada. Symbian hasn't won many customers for Samsung, owing to software problems on the handsets, therefore it wouldn't be a surprise to have no more Symbian devices from the electronics giant.

The source suggests the Omnia HD2 will feature a 12 megapixel camera with both Xenon and LED flash, capable of competing against the Nokia N8, a 4" Super AMOLED touchscreen display with only 640x360 pixels in resolution, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, GPS, and HD video recording.

If the information is correct, then Samsung would use its usual strategy and launch the handset in two variants, one with 16GB, and the other with 32GB of internal memory.

There does seem to be an overlap from the screen onto the hardware, on the left side of the handset. If this is not a capture issue, then this Samsung Omnia HD2 is certainly fake.

Samsung Announces 1GHZ Cortex A8 Core, Dubbed “Hummingbird”; iPhone 4G Material?

ARM’s Cortex A8 architecture is more famous than you think, since it’s present on devices like Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS, but it’s time for the platform to evolve. Right now, the 3GS is running on top of a Samsung S5PC100 system on a chip at 600 Mhz, but Samsung have just moved on to the next level and probably so will Apple’s handset.

Samsung has partnered with silicon design company Intrinsity and created the fastest Cortex A8 core so far, a 1GHz unit bearing the codename “Hummingbird”. The core is based on 45nm manufacturing technologies, that provide impressive performance with a single volt of power consumption.

This makes the new solution ideal for mobile phones and a great rival for the Snapdragon 1GHz CPU included in the Toshiba TG01 smartphone. Will “Hummingbird” be at the core of the iPhone 4G?
