guys, do u think N900 is really good despite it's size that kinda bulky?

i am thinking to get one just to play or have a taste of it.. currently i'm on android and also have bb as my 2nd phone.. i am bored with iPhone while Bold2 failed to impress me.. nokia's symbian and SE also quite yesterday and i am amazed there's quite a number of people saying n900 is a powerful device... neway jumping to a new platform might provide me opportunity to learn new things and this is the only thing that excites me to try N900 biggrin.gif

dont really understand what you are asking

not really sure about this part ...
*
i mean without data plan, will it be a useless phone like for eg. BB? i've subscribed unlimited data plan for my nexus one and i wonder if i only used n900 with wifi, will it be total useless as a smartphone when i'm out of wifi coverage area..

Usually its very hard to satisfy ppl.

If u are using nexus one u should stick with it except u want something different or special. At specification Nexus One outbeat NOkia N900 but in uniqueness nokia N900 is really different. If u want something different consider nokia n900

i just make a short summary even this question been repeated many times

Nokia N900 doesnt require BIS/BES to work like blackberry. U can use WIFI,3G or even infra. The reason why ppl choose nokia n900 is not because of the weight but what its capable of.

1) Running totally on linux when android is only linux backbone
2) U have a great community like us and many out there that always have new hack or tweaks to share
3) N8 do not run on linux but only symbian so the limitation is there when N900 totally no limitation u can just do anything with your phone like run android, windows 95, run PSX, run warcraft game, run this run that they call it unlimited possibility but u need to have the knowledge to accompolish it.

4) Nokia N900 is not a smartphone its like the thread title stated its a tablet with phone capabilities. If u google around N770, N800, N810 u know how amazing this tablet comes especially for internet. Now is Phone + tablet for nokia n900
5) I am currently replying this on my nokia N900 i love this phone when it comes to internet i can do movie bookings, online banking, using VNC , emailing with HTML, making my phone as a remote control
6) Android phones dont even have front camera. Nokia N900 have but we do not know why 3G calls is not available yet. Maybe in next firmware
7) Nokia N900 support MMS via 3rdparty the tutorial is on frontpage (FP)
8) The GPS module on nokia N900 is amazing i get a lock in 15sec to 1min.
9) I have also made a comparison on the frontpage please check it out
10) Read the guide we have put so much effort to collect and compile on the frontpage (FP) THANK YOU
11) Lastly if u already have nexus one its actually sufficient already furthermore its using snapdragon processor when Nokia N900 only Cortex processor.
12) You have alot nice forumers to assist you
13) We started this thread near end of MARCH 2010 today after 3 months we are hitting V3 anytime. Do u see any other thread grow so fast. There must be a reason why it grows so fast. Be unique be a maemo
Check out the android http://forum.lowyat.net/Android there must be a problem why nokia N900 thread grow so fast even so many complains about it. Desire thread started on Dec 7 2009, 11:48 AM

14) U have chance to try Meego the latest OS from Nokia and Intel its not official but we know there sure a way around it when its officially launch for market
15) Nokia N900 have a live desktop feel so u can customize how u like it to be.
16) In lyn thread if u have a problem on your phone someone definately will assist u. Try going thru the threads and u see how fast ppl response to u. Sharing is caring
Hope my short summary helps u in making your decision on whether to get your nokia N900

It's an Internet Tablet with phone functionality.

Contacts? The Maemo OS or n900 have a unique features where they built in everything into Contacts and Conversations. So, forget about installing 3rd party IM app or programs, by default, there is Skype, Google Talk, Jabber plugins built in. PR1.2 introduces Facebook Chat plugins.
You can install other plugins from the repositories. You chat with your friends through Conversations, which is also how your SMS works. This concept is where Nokia emphasize on socializing, and where Microsoft is heading NOW with their Windows Phone 7 and ditching their previous OS, starting all over concentrating on socializing.

The N900 is the closest thing you can ever get to a PC like experience.
It also have "DESKTOP" unlike other smartphones with only "HomeScreen". The Desktop works just like your PC Desktop, there's a lot of flexibility and you can do a lot of customization, you can creatively design your own Desktop; It's unique and special because you can see many many different Desktop designs and customization, totally WAY better and more powerful than any smartphones HomeScreen.

The N900 maybe bulky but it packs a lot of hardwares, like FM Transmitter, Infrared, etc. It's rare to find a device that is this complete. And together with Maemo OS, it's superb. The only problem is the "support" from Nokia. Nokia seems to be emphasizing and concentrating on MeeGo, and N900 is not getting much attention. The community is far far better and way way faster in developing apps and providing features that Nokia miss out. E.g. AFTER SO LONG, only Nokia provided USSD feature, there's still no MMS provided, no additional IM plugins,.. though most of the missing feature has been provided by the community since long ago.
Nokia is lucky to have this great community which really contributes a lot, else N900 might have died easily.

And guess what, the Maemo OS is very open and many apps can be ported easily to this device. You can see "Chromium" (Linux version of Google Chrome) ported to N900, and there're so many more, like MyPaint, etc. If you're a Java Developer, guess what, they even got NetBeans for Linux running in N900!

Anyway, not sure what you're REALLY looking for; just make sure what you want before getting it, else it might not fullfill your requirements and ended up giving you a bad impression. It may not suit everybody's taste.
But if you're talking about smartphone, being close to PC like experience, this is the only device. Or if you're a technical person or Linux geek/pro/etc, this is a must have.

thanks for great explaination guys! really appreciate it..

however fygi, i'm not n i wont letting go the nexus one.. by far it's the best & convenient device i ever have, after desire & bold2. iPhone is great, but not convenient with it's heavy dependence with iTunes.

and no offence, but Desire just available few weeks ago via ap company.. i know since i'm among the first to own it in malaysia.. and it's very new in our market. so cant compare the thread they have with N900 here...

but guess what, i just got the N900 last night. and where it stands out now? i dunno, but yes i'm excited to explore lots of things coz it's been a long time since android, i've a device that makes me like noob again. and i'm excited! haha.

now i hope to learn many things from u guys to ensure i've a great experience with this device..and thanks in advance ! biggrin.gif
