Well created my own OC profile. Tried using the default ideal Settings by titan but my N900 couldnt even boot lol. Guess the voltages were too low. I upped them up slightly but still at 850Mhz, it is using less than the default Nokia setting for 600Mhz. Lets see how battery life goes with this biggrin.gif

Will let you all know. Anyhow if any are interested, the guide is off maemo.org

Can't comment much on pricing or value when my N900 is actually a hand-me-down. A FOSS phone in its fullest sense lol. Though I do agree that the browser is a work of art, and *nix in a phone (which isn't some dumbed down mobile implementation) with the ability to run LX freakin DE is just sublime.

But it kinda sucks at being 'just a phone'. Once you realise it's not really meant to be one in the first place, you will start being happy with it though.

As for phones worth splashing monies fo later, lets see if Nok gets their Meego phones right (say it with me Nok, UUUU-ESSSS-BEE HOST. If the N freakin 8 can do it...), OR if the Nexus Two/Milestone successor is worth the money.

Yes i remember last time new Nokia phone always start at 3k++, N93, N95. So 2000 is "cheap". icon_rolleyes.gif

Reasons for me to get this phone is because the availability of Nokia parts being cheaper than other brands, either Ori or compatible, long term can save more. Plus the browser looks better compare to other phones. thumbup.gif

Not so curious when you take into consideration the lower voltages that some of the overclock profiles run at. Lower voltages = lower power consumption, no? Personally, I'm generally okay with 600 as far as performance goes, so currently running stock unmodded XLV to try to make my brick run longer.

For now at least.

Depends on which kernel you use. Titan's ideal kernel is actually using lower voltages compared to Nokia's default.

Depends on yourself. I am using the Power Kenel and Power Kernel Settings to Overclock. It allows changes on the fly and allows you to change voltages as well through profiles.

You can follow the link I posted, it is a pretty accurate guide. You will need some trial and error as well. The kernel has a safety feature though, if your N900 reboots a couple of times, it will reload the default settings.

Some N900 can run at ULV while some cant. You need to find which one suites you the most as all chips are different. Titan's ideal settings are as below:-

CODE
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - CREATE A COPY OF IT FOR CUSTOMIZATION
# minimum frequency to use
MINFREQ=500
# maximum frequency to use
MAXFREQ=850
# list of frequency configurations: each "frequency:volt,dsprate"
FREQS="500:30,360 550:33,400 600:38,430 700:45,430 750:45,430 805:48,430 850:48,
UP_THRESHOLD=75
SAMPLING_RATE=150000
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=0
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=0
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=1

Didnt work for me. I needed to increase the voltages a little and now it has been stable for about 1hour.

Nokia's default is below:-
CODE
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - CREATE A COPY OF IT FOR CUSTOMIZATION
# minimum frequency to use
MINFREQ=250
# maximum frequency to use
MAXFREQ=600
# list of frequency configurations: each "frequency:volt,dsprate"
FREQS="0:30,90 125:30,90 250:38,180 500:48,360 550:54,400 600:60,430 700:60,430 750:60,430 805:60,430 850:60,500 900:60,500 950:60,500 1000:60,500 1100:72,520 1150:72,520"
UP_THRESHOLD=95
SAMPLING_RATE=300000
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=0
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=0
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=0

Do include "maemo" or "n900" in your queries to uncle google for best results (e.g. "virtual keyboard missing keys maemo n900"). The main problem with the majority of *nix issues IMHO is the fact that I can't help you much unless I've been through the same thing. There are just TOO many variables in play.

As for the xterm results, you see the arrow on the xterm toolbar? Click on it so that there's a red slash on it. This means you're in text select mode. Click and drag to select text, and click on the top bar (on the 'untitled') to bring up the app menu -> choose copy.

Then switch to browser and Ctrl+V away.

As for rootfs, the extras-devel repo catalogue eats up a LOT of this, so disable ex-d unless you need to do something with it. There's also some other steps on the maemo wiki on 'cleaning rootfs', but some of them are kinda iffy so BCOWYDYMBYD (be careful of what you do, you may brick your device).

did u disconnect the internet connection? Sometimes when u connected to the internet it wont disconnect itself.

Were you using the WIFI before? There's a supposed bug that causes the WIFI drivers to continue draining huge amounts of battery even when it's disconnected.

Like i said earlier, the only way to resolve it is by rebooting/shutting down.

But then again, my N900 eats through its batteries like crazy to begin with anyhow, lol.

I concur with RiVN, 5-6 hours are what you should be expecting with heavy-ish use.

i didnt turn on wifi as what i posted earlier...about the wifi connection error..even the 3G connection wasnt listed in the "select connections"...nvm,the prob suddenly dissapear..can connect now..about battery,will monitor for or 2 days..

This my 1 week progress of battery usage

Mostly i use WIFI and 3G for internet access
Network : Most of the time in GSM only switch to Dual when necessary
Overclock to 900mhz
Calls and sms thru out the day
Charge only end of the day

user posted image
Yellow - Battery bar
Green - Volts
Light blue - Battery discharge rate
Purple - CPU usage
Dark Green - Charger
Network - White

Battery never depletes to ZERO through that 1 week of monitoring

ish..the battery suddenly drained so fast???now cannot turn on...need to charge summore...not even a day lah..huhuhu...charged until green light,unplug the charger at 7am...just playing it a lil bit,slept around 1pm,woke up at 4pm,the phone is already dead...

applied evything from changing to GSM,lowered brightness to level 2..disable GPS positioning..and the phone is still stock standard..

I've mentioned before, it's better to install the "System Info Widget". Sometimes, some processes may "hang" and hogging your CPU resources to 100% usage. Your battery will be drain in no time. I've experience few times, usually it's the browser, have to manually kill it X-Terminal or HTOP app.
The easier way would be restart your phone.

Turning on Wi-Fi shouldn't drain your battery so fast, even on GSM mode (2G/2.5G). With Wi-Fi, I have no problems connecting it whole day, with GSM (2G/2.5G) mode, from morning around 9am till afternoon around 3-4pm, still got about 40%~50% depending on usage.

Actually, even before the lower voltage is used, OC have also claimed to have better battery life.
I believe it depends on situation, if using at 100% for long time, surely OC will consume more battery life. But for normal usage, OC actually might give better battery life.
If you notice, once we go online with the N900, the processor will use up to 100% for a few seconds, mainly because of connecting to the accounts (skype, etc). Now, with OC, with the extra processing power, it might use less time to complete similar task, thus possibility of consuming less power. Some goes for other processes. Most probably that's why many previous OC without ULV claims to have better battery life than stock.

have to wait for stock??? means what they got a new manufacturer or cheaper material on the everyphone's next batch? i mean.. things just doesn't get cheaper at that scale that soon.. even if it's for the market share.. just feeling suspecious.. but well.. cheaper is a good motivation to buy one ahahaha..

come to think of it maybe it's nokia malaysia's attempt to beat the AP market... i mean selling cheaper is better than no sales at all.. Kaspersky style..
