The story is:
All music kept on harddrive, suddenly power failure, HD got corrupted, but got most data recovered,

The problem is:
In Windows Media Player, the error message I get when I try to play the files: Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error.

In winamp. It can be upload in the list, but can't play at all..

try to scan with mp3val software. It identify the problem is unkown format. But I don't understand how they can be 'unknown' when each file claims to be an mp3 file.

Try to repair it but failed. Same goes with 'MP3 Repair Tool' software.. cry.gif

Is there anything at all I can do to get the music back to normal, and get it playing?

The file doesn't "claim" to be mp3 or anything. If the filename has a *.mp3 extension, most programs will assume it's an mp3 file. (Extensions are normally hidden in Windows, you can turn them on under folder options. I normally do to reduce the chance of getting infected with virus).

You can rename cat.jpg to cat.mp3 but that does not turn a picture of a cat into a song about cats. The contents of the file is still not an mp3, and it cannot be played.

Most likely, what happened was your recovery software tried it's best to put the various parts of each file together and match it to the name, but something went wrong, so you didn't end up with a valid file.
