QUOTE(garytong @ Apr 25 2010, 10:00 PM) Wow, so no one can challenge the logic of Stephen Hawking just because he has way more PHD? at least he'd manage to have PhD.So he's always right because of his awards/phd? Fantastic. I suppose he can go around shagging anyone's wife as well, because he cannot possibly be wrong and he deserves it because he has PHD and Nobel prizes. Mor*n! YOU? |

QUOTE(hakimluqman @ Apr 25 2010, 09:46 PM) Why would we be physically weaker over the next thousand years? Look at who we are worshipping now. Handsome studs and macho sports players. If anything we'd only get dumber as people continually attach stigma to performing well in schools. we will evolve physically weaker in thousand or million years to come if we depend on science to solve our problem because we're not doing as much physical activities as we did in the past.If anything human development would follow a bell curve, as we're done with the high horse stage of our sexually repressed civilization and return back to our primal desires. just look at the apes that did not use twigs to light up fire to keep them warm in the jungle they climb trees and all that, they are physically stronger than human and they have fur to keep them warm, and those ape don't have to use 2 twigs to create fire, and they don't need much brain power to survive, and they depend more on their physical strength (climb trees to avoid predators) and durability (fur to keep them warm), therefore their brain development were not as fast as us human. and if the aliens are living at barren place, they will evolve to have skin that withstand extreme cold or heat, and will not have enough tools for them to use their brain since ...it's barren, there will not be enough tools for brainy lifeform to survive, they will be killed by physically stronger lifeform. If aliens were that advanced, surely they too are looking for other planets and one way or another, we'd find each other?
Hawking is not as smart as me. |

Chinese got a word say [shàn zhě bù lái, lái zhě bù shàn 善者不來, 來者不善], I think this is what Stephen Hawkings want to tell in the article. . .

QUOTE Yeah Stephen Hawking is smart. This post has been edited by garytong: Apr 25 2010, 10:19 PMBut, so is Michio Kaku and Hawking's good friend Roger Penrose and countless other scientists. As a matter of fact the other two I just named both have won more awards then Hawking. I think the only reason why he gets more attention is because people feel sorry for him because of his disease. "cranks and weirdos"? I'll be sure NOT to buy anymore of his books. |

QUOTE(garytong @ Apr 25 2010, 10:08 PM) I have more respect for Michio Kaku than that wheelchair bound overrated crank with huge ego Stephen Hawking. Michio Kaku is surely a genius scientist, so does Stephen Hawking. You forgot to take into account that Stephen Hawking was just presenting his own idea and opinion which might be subjected to scientific research and scrutiny. As far as I know, by reading his thought above, he never claimed to be absolute accurate in his explanation. Why are you resorting to bash him for no good sane reason? He said, in all probability, alien might exist in outer space, probably other galaxies far far away from us, thus, their surprised visit will not be accomplished within this time period. Remember, though his thought might be dismissed as science fiction now, it doesn't mean that it's improbable. A few hundreds years ago, if someone from 16 th century predicted about human boarding flying device to travel to other continents or space exploration, that someone will be regarded as imaginative insane man. However, it's a reality nowadays. |

QUOTE(garytong @ Apr 25 2010, 10:00 PM) Wow, so no one can challenge the logic of Stephen Hawking just because he has way more PHD? Find for me from his quotation where he said he is ABSOLUTELY correct. But please bear in mind that a different weight must be assigned to his idea because he is a scientist. The only person who is qualified to refute him is another scientist. A laymen like me and you should just keep quiet then researched more on this topic. So he's always right because of his awards/phd? Fantastic. I suppose he can go around shagging anyone's wife as well, because he cannot possibly be wrong and he deserves it because he has PHD and Nobel prizes. Mor*n! A barber doesn't have the right to criticize the method utilized by a lecturer in his lecture, same case here. |

To say that only he can say his piece is insultingly arrogant. He's no more mortal than anyone else around on this planet and he won't live forever. He's going to die anyway so he's not special. His contribution to humanity is just that, unproven theories. |

Depending on the situation, I'd say I agree with him to a certain extent.
Alien technology may be very advanced, but the galaxy is STILL very big, and information takes a while to travel the distance in light years. Aliens, are also very likely to be hostile, and aggressive. And we shouldn't be making ourselves more obvious, than we already are |
