Hi guys,

I am renting a room in a house which is shared by a few other housemates. We wish to see how much electricty each room consumes so we can divide the bill accurately at the end of the month between all of us tenants. Some of us tend to be working overseas and some of us stay at home most of the time. People tell me that by installing a meter for each of our rooms it would be a good way to measure our electrical consumption, as this is what some shops do.

Any of you have any experience in installing such meters, please share your thoughts and views.

Thanks!

electric check meter can be installed for each room, but involves lotsa rewiring works, unless each room is already wired in different circuits. but bear in mind if bathroom is shared the water heater electric consumption is high too.

Hi people! Thanks for the replies!!

Have any of you have meters fixed for your rooms before?

I'd like to know how much it would cost on average for a room to be fixed with a meter.

One contractor/electrician quoted me 900RM per room.

Please advice! biggrin.gif

unless for commercial purpose i don't think having a electrical meter in every room is practical.......n i thought sharing was caring sweat.gif

and how much could electricity bill be? just share and divide equally .........buy if u share ur house with strangers + wolfs , then i understand the need of being calculative laugh.gif

my advise is
let's say your house fix with 5 aircond. so just fix 5 individual meter beside the main meter of ur house(the wiring just involve with the 5 aircond wiring).it make the works much more easier n may be cheaper cost.

only measure the aircond usage n others still average sharing

"Some of us tend to be working overseas and some of us stay at home most of the time."

why not just count the days that fella is in home, and divide appropriately? like in 1 month, A is at home 30 days, B is at home 10 days only (B goes 20 days outstation)... B pays 5/30 (as 10 divides 2) of the bill, A pays 25/30 of the bills (20 + 10/2)... cincai solution?
