Dear all,

I have been following through this thread since V1. I am now considering my purchase between EP-2 (Kit lens 14-42 w/ VF-2) and E-PL1 (Kit lens 14-24). Will also add Panny 20mm on top for my easy-travel needs as I travel 50% of my time.

If I were to go for E-PL1, I would still like to have VF-2 to go with it. With this, the price would be at not much difference with EP-2 package.

Appreciate some feedback here which is a better option? Thanks in advance.

Weee.....! Just got myself an Oly EP2 with kit lens 14-42 with EVF2 + Panny 20mm pancake. Now gonna get myself familiarize with the new toy.

Next in purchase: Filter to protect both lenses and off course a good practical camera bag. Maybe a telephoto zoom later.

Mind to share where and how much u got it for??
*
I got the E-P2 kit for RM3250 which include the following

- E-P2 body with 14-42 kit lens + VF2
- Keep Screen Protector
- Olympus Extra Battery
- Panasonic 8GB Memory Card

I got the Panny 20mm pancake at different store at RM1350.

Not sure if I got it cheap for the above. hmm.gif

did u ask the Price for pancake package?? Is it the same??
I didn't ask because I have set my plan to buy the Panny pancake instead but I think the price should be the same.

Price of pancake and zoom for EP2 is the same, as i myself also could not figure out why(I am getting the pancake ep2 btw).. not worth to buy the body only  since the kit is only less than RM200 more than the body
*
Yes, its not worth with only RM200 difference. Though I can foresee myself using the pancake lens most of the time since i prefer to travel light, I will still keep the kit lens in case I need it one day.

I do hope that there is a 14mm to 150mm lens which I can buy to replace the kit lens, instead of owning so many lens. Hope some of the sifu here can offer some advise.

Right now I'm using this hood to protect the lens. If situation really needs me to snap without filter, it wont be too bad.
*
What hood are you using? For 14-42mm lens or pancake? I am looking for one too. Saw one made of rubber. Quality is low.

with budget of 2.5k the only option you got for new unit is E-PL1 and EOS 550D (slightly higher)the pana still the pricier choice...but if u wouldn't mind for the money why not??...for undoubtfull IQ i would say better go for EOS 550D..but if u like to be different hanging around m43 camera around ur neck...(and ppl will for sure staring at you!!)...i will definitely encourage you to go for m43 system...!!!
*
Oyes, it does attracts a lot of attention when i'm just hanging it around my neck when wandering in Phnom Penh for some street shot. A group of young female student approached me to check out my chest (oops! I mean my E-P2 with EV2) tongue.gif

I wasn't that lucky though

Was approached by an uncle in DCIM 2010 (Midvalley) to check-out my GF1.. He said he's interested to get one but it's quite pricey still  tongue.gif
*
I also have similar experience at the airport where 2 uncles asked me about the camera. At first glance, they thought I'm using some kind of expensive retro looking Leica camera which they doubt I can afford. sweat.gif

I'm loving my EP2!

yes, it support 43 macro lens... that's why the adapter is well worth it + the lens...
*
I'm in the midst of deciding which zoom lens is good to go with my E-P2.

Just a noob question. Does the adapter support AF when using 43 lens? Also, does the 'focal length' works the same on 2x like 45mm to 200mm = 90mm to 400mm?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

When shooting with my EP2 today. Suddenly I noted that the usual in focus 'beep' sound is not there. Power off and on few times and even switched to different lens, still same. Anyone had this experience before or have I accidentally disable anything?

Hi guys,

You guys are so right. The larger focusing box is annoying when I'm using the Olympus Zuiko ED 50mm f2.0 with my E-P2 on AF. You will never know if the intended area is really in focus. I think i need to go manual focus next time.

Some sample below. The petal appear to be sharper than the centre of the flower. Comment appreciated.

Very nice shot. The focus depth could have improve though. I know, that stupid large box is annoying hehehe... maybe you could try increasing the aperture value large enough to 'envelope' the entire flower next time. Since the background is pretty far away from the subject, it will be equally blur.
*
QUOTE(gogo2 @ Jul 18 2010, 11:18 PM)
Yeah, if u dun focus so thin DOF, then its ok.. but if use 20mm f/1.7, focus near stuff might be a pain.
*
Thanks for the comment. This is my first time shooting so close. In fact, the background is so near and the flower is so tiny (i think about 1 cm). I shot it from a bouquet of flower on sale at a florist. Anyway, I'm glad that the bokeh result looks OK.

On another note, with Oly Zuiko 50mm f2.0 on E-P2 I think it's quite heavy to lug around. Also it is equivalent to 100mm (on 35mm film) and it's sometime difficult when doing street photographing as you will need to stand further from the subject. The plus point for this lens is the macro mode. Now I'm thinking whether I should sell this and get a 40-150 zoom instead which I think is more versatile. What do you think?

I think 40-150mm is big also... no point bro...

street shooting should get latest Oly 14-150mm...

Oyes, i missed the new Oly M.Zuiko 14-150. That can also replace my kit lens. tongue.gif

hey, zuiko m 9-18mm is serious under my consideration. its cheaper than 7-14mm...lol

Sounds like your interest equals to many of our arms and legs sweat.gif
Anyway, I'm considering that also but will go for a tele-zoom first.

haha, i heard the zuiko 35mm f3.5 is pretty good is as sharp as the 50mm f2.0 macro but u gotta go real close with the object.. and its cheap too.. RM750+ i fink
*
That would also require MMF-1 adapter to work on m43 with additional cost. Unless, you already has one.
